.nrg files have no association with Nero Burning Rom

I have installed Nero Platinum 2016 and I have found that .nrg files have no file association. When I double-click an nrg file, it asks me what to open it with, Trying to associate them with "C:\Program Files (x86)\Nero\Nero 2016\Nero Burning ROM\nero.exe" is just ignored by Windows 7. It seems to want a 64-bit program.

How can I correct the file association for .nrg files so I can double-click the .nrg file and it will open Nero Burning Rom to let me burn it to a DVD ?

Thanks

  • On a 64 bit system, Nero runs in a 32 bit emulation mode.

Open Control Panel, Default Programs. Select "Associate a file.....................".

Find the .nrg extension. Double click on it and select Nero Burning Rom. That should change the association. On this Win 7 system, it is set to Nero Express 2016 starter because I probably elected to allow Nero to be the default program for all files that it can open when I did the installation. Nero Express can also be used to burn .nrg files.

  • Thanks.

Uhm, yes, but Nero doesn't appear in that list - no Nero programs do (plenty of others do).

So I click on Browse... and then look in c:\Program Files (x86)\Nero\Nero 2016\Nero Burning ROM\ and choose nero.exe (seems the most relevant - no sign of Nero Express) and click Open, but nothing happens when I click the Open button (like Windows doesn't like that choice).

I think the Nero 2016 installation has omitted to create the file associations initially and for some reason Windows won't let me do it manually.

Aha. So I found I needed to choose "C:\Program Files (x86)\Nero\Nero 2016\Nero Burning ROM\StartNBR.exe" - not the most obvious of choices.

So could someone from Nero take a look at the Nero 2016 installation software and fix the problem for other people? It should associate itself, or at least offer to, during installation. :-)

  • The file you chose will open Nero Express. I'm not sure why it doesn't work for Burning Rom. I changed it as described in my first response and it works.

I think that if you select Installation Settings during the installation, the option for association is there.

You can send an e-mail to techsupport@nero.com.
