.WTV support still missing for the fourth year! It was announced and promised in version 12!

WHY do Nero 2015 still not support the std. WTV format?
Thise is the only reason I check out every time I notice Nero is releasing a new version - and much to my disappointment I still can not find any reason for why Nero neglect the WTV - format!
If I rename the .WTV file to e.g. .Divx the Nero Recode can read and edit the file - no problem so far, BUT when trying to process the edited video to a new e.g. MP4 file - Nero Recode just crash!
I have always bought Nero since version 4 and I continued to upgrade all the way to the Nero 12 Platinum version - this was announced to be able to recode and edit WTV files - which I unfortunately couldn't. I wrote to your tech support 3 times and they answered each time promising, that this particular functionality would be implemented and working in the next servicerelase!
After the fourth time writing them and each time submitting test-files for testing at Nero site, I gave up and for the last 3 years I been occationally checking your site for the long, long, long awaited functionality - again today just once more been left in a state of chok, and having to accept since Nero 12 still satifies all my other needs - I must assume, that your tech support and developments guys just haven't got what I takes to figure out how to make WTV files into MP4!
Another interesting thing is, that Nero now bundles OpenCandy in its demoversions - not just UNPRETTY but a step towards malware spreading!
I have ALWAYS gladly paid what has been asked for ALL my SW, but I never asked for OpenCandy and likewise - and further more I will not accept to pay, if OpenCandy is in any software, since this takes more time and money to get rid off, than the software often costs!
So stick to making Nero as you (used!) to be good at - and please leave malware spreading by everybody else, who don't know better (and stop disrespecting users by sending this annoying Candy-software out!)

  • Hello Jorgen_P,

we could not find any e-mail at our database using the registered address at this user-forum.

WTV files are created in the most cases using a TV capture Card device and Windows MediaCenter.

As a Workaround they can be rightclicked at Windows Explorer and "converted". This will convert them to *.dvr-ms which can be imported at Nero Recode and recoded to a MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 videofile for further usage within Nero Video.

If you have more idseas or feature requests, please send them to techsupport@nero.com that we can forward them to our developers.

  • ChristianZ,

This issue has been reported repeatedly for years. If the developers aren't already aware of it, perhaps you could mention it. Please also bring my results to their attention!

I've taken the liberty to implement your suggestion. I started with a small WTV clip and made two new files. The first was converted to DVR-MS; for the second, I simply changed the extension to DVR-MS. The latter two will both import into Recode. All three can be imported into Nero Video!

Here are the source files [230 MB].

Here are the recoded Files [52 MB].

Please check out the following claims:

    1. Recoding the DVR-MS file to MPEG-4 results in a file that has audio, but no video.
    2. Recoding the DVR-MS file to the other 6 available formats results is an assortment of mostly disastrous results.
    3. Importing any of the source files and then exporting to MPEG-4 using Nero Video results in playable videos.
