I’m annoyed

After burning files to DVD, the data is not visible.

When burning files to DVD, the burn seems to go through, but after, I cannot read the disc. I have lost 5 DVDs doing this. It happens on two different pcs with two different drives. It is now annoying. This happens with express or normal burning.

  • What kind of DVDs did you burn, Data DVD or Video DVD?

If it is data DVD, then after burnt, you can simply open the dvd and check the files as data file on the DVD, if video DVD made with Nero Video, then there will be many files, like Audio_TS and Video_TS folder.

Kindly send your detailed step-by-step for the burning process to techsupport@nero.com. we will then analysis for you.

    Hi,

I am burning data to dvd. I have now lost 5/6 DVDs as a result of this issue. So, you desire me to tell you how to waste another DVD?

    Open the Nero Burning ROM:

    Method 1

    1/. Select DVD
    2/. Use DVD-ROM
    3/. Select no multi-session
4/. Select automatic on UDF tab
    5/. Select 8x
    6/. Click burn

    Method 2

    1/. Select Nero Express
    2/. Select Data DVD
    3/. Add in files wanted
4/. select 4.7 DVD (the DVD is 4.7 gig)
    5/. Select burn

Both methods claim to burn, both methods show burning on the DVD - but the data is not there or if it is, it is not readable.

Now this is a known issue as others have had it, I have seen but I have not seen a resolution to this issue.

  • You don't mention which version you're using but it shouldn't matter.

The burn speed may be too high. Most DVD's are rated for 4x. The quoted write speeds for drives are often times higher than that but those are usually obtained using a specific brand and type of disc. The results may vary if you don't have the same brand and type.

Please cut and paste the contents of the log here.

You can find the nerohistory.log file here-

C:\Users\"user name"\AppData\Roaming\Nero\Nero xx\Nero Burning ROM where xx is your version number.

  • The version number is 11, and I have burnt at lower speeds, 4x, 8x, Max times, and no difference. It is running in Win 7 64 bit pro environment. It is a clean install, the pc is a top spec pc... that is i7 2.7 Ghz 16 Gig ram. I would, but right now, I have uninstalled it and using another product as I am not getting any real joy here, and it is not burning DVDs.

  • That is a little presumptuous, don't you think, considering I have given all the information bar one thing...which really should not be needed. I burn a data dvd that does not show data. Why does it do this and why do other people besides me have this issue and why is not resolved?

  • I'm not being presumptuous. I'm trying to help. You said you aren't getting any joy here. I asked you to post the content of the log, which will most likely reveal the cause of the problem. You declined.

Perhaps I'm overlooking something but I don't recall people having a problem burning a data disc. It's not any different that burning files to disc using the Windows utility. It's nothing more than a copy operation.

  • I did not decline, I said I uninstalled the software so I do not have the file to post. Rather different than declining.

Yes, you are overlooking something... the data files do not burn to the disc, or if the do, they are not visible. Clearly, as I used an alternative burning rom, and that worked, it indicates a problem with the nero burning rom.

I am not new to nero, or software support...I have only posted to try get some idea on the direction to look, considering I spent £50 or so on a burning rom. I would expect to install it into a clean Win 7 environment, and burn a data dvd disc, without having to throw 5/6 of them away for a failure on the part of Nero.

Considering that due to my own research prior to posting here, Nero has had this issue previously, therefore it is not a new issue, and so should be able to provide me some form of reply without all this hassle. It simply furthers the disappointment in a software package that I once really enjoyed using, because it worked.

To say, "You haven't even approached tech support about it. They're the experts. I'm sorry you don't want any help." is clearly an assumption on your part, had I not wanted assistance, I would not have posted in the first instance. I was asked a step by step process (which I find condescending, even though it was not yourself), but I put it in, and still it is not enough. Perhaps the issue is that you do not know the reason, and so by stating "I'm sorry you don't want any help." is a means to cover yourself.

This, however, does not resolve the problem, nor do I see the need to re-install the application, and waste further DVDs simply to produce a log file for something that is apparently a known issue in the first instance.

  • Maybe another approach:
We should try to analyse, what the problem with the burned discs is.

Please start nero burning rom, cancel the "new compliation" dialog, go to recorder - disc info and insert one of the burned disc.
Please add a screenshot of the disc info output

  • Hello ashokbhai-

What version of Nero are you using? Is it up to date as determined by running the check for updates from the Nero ControlCenter?

Which Nero app are you using to burn the disc and what are you choosing when you open it? What type of file are you burning?

  • I am experiencing the same issues as the posters above...
    Windows 7 Pro SP1 i7 3rd Gen 64 bit
Nero 11.2.10300.0.0 latest updates as of 11-13-2014 from Check or Updates in Nero Burning ROM
    Media - HP DVD+R 16x 4.7 GB

I insert a new disc, add my files to complication and check settings
    DVD-ROM (UDF)
    Multisession>No Multisession
    UDF>Automatic settings
    Burn> Determine maximum speed=true, write=true, Write speed: 8x - also tried 4x

Nero goes through the steps to burn the files to the media, and ejects the disc afterward. After inserting the disc again and following the instruction above to check disc I receive the info in the image...Disc is empty

    What am I missing?
    Thank you!

  • Update - I have now tried 8 different DVD discs. The second to last one was done at 4x and completed successfully. I had to adjust one pdf file in my complication and attempted to burn using the same .nru file and settings as the successful one. It failed...says disc is empty after burning process, looking at the back of the physical DVD and it looks like the DVD has in fact been burnt!! Now it is an intermittent problem. Trying another one...

  • The logs you've given me are confusing. In some cases, the capacity of the disc are understated yet the burn is shown as successful. In the last burn, you have a medium error. The latter usually requires using a different disc, a different batch of discs or a different brand of discs.

I also have to ask- is anything you're burning copy protected?

  • OK, thanks for looking into the logs. I have burned these files before with success and had one successful burn with the batch of discs that I have. I have access and rights to burn the files.

    Thank you,
    Scott

  • I recommend that you try a different batch or brand of discs.

If that fails, then send an e-mail to techsupport@nero.com.

Sure would like to know what the problem is.

  • Hi All,
please try changing book type to DVD+R, it seems that TSST drives/firmwares are very picky about that. I used to have a TS-L633R drive with HP firmware which read the discs properly, but after changing to TSST TS-L23D drive with original TSST firmware I can't read DVD+R discs with DVD-ROM book type - same disc works perfectly in another drive. I manage to access the contents of the disc with a tool like IsoBuster. Try that if it helps also in your case!
