I’m scared - oh no!

After locating pictures on my other devices (e.g. Smartphone), does Kwik store them on the computer?

I just started using the Kwik Media app that came with my Nero 11. It discovered pictures on my smartphone, and put them on my timeline. I disconnected my smartphone, then started editing the pictures, e.g. there were lots of duplicates, so started deleting these, tagging the remaining pictures, and naming faces. After many hours of doing this, I realized that in many instances, the copy of the picture I was deleting showed that it was on my computer (C:), and the one I was tagging was on my smartphone (H:). I had been thinking that the smartphone pictures had actually been copied to the computer when it discovered them, but the location continued to be listed as the cell phone. Have I therefore lost a lot of the tagging that I did? Are the smartphone pictures actually on my computer somewhere, or only large thumbnails?

P.S. when going to the site to look for the answer, I see that there is a free version 12.x out there - is the free version crippled compared to my version that came with Nero 11?

  • I don't have time to give you a good answer tonight but if you still have Kwik Media, you need to go to the Nero ControlCenter and run the check for updates. Kwik Media has been replaced by Nero MediaHome.

    Hello Neale,

As Wither wrote I’d suggest to upgrade to the newest version of Nero MediaHome:

    http://www.nero.com/eng/products/nero...

Nero MediaHome aka Nero Kwik Media is for free. Upgrading to a newer version is free and the free version is not crippled compared to your version. Actually you get new features :-)

Since your Nero 11 version we have changed a lot of things in Nero MediaHome. Amongst others we changed the handing of external devices like phones or USB sticks.

Per default we do not import photos, videos or music from your phone to your computer. When you connect your phone to your computer, Nero MediaHome will start indexing it. For some phones you need to unlock the phone first so that Nero MediaHome is able to start indexing.

At the phone’s view in Nero MediaHome you can browse the phone or see which files are new and not yet imported in Nero MediaHome.

The files from your phone won’t be listed in the timeline anymore if they were not imported.

You can import the new files you want to have in Nero MediaHome by pressing the Import button at “Show new files” of your device. Here you can also decide if you want import automatically all new files in future with the same settings every time the phone will be connected. This setting can be undone in the Options/Portable Devices/Automatically import from the following devices.

Once the files are imported they will appear in the timeline and you can use all the features Nero MediaHome offers. You’re then working with the copies on your computer and not with the files on your phone.

  • When browsing the music, you can right click on a file and select "remove". If, as NMHPM says, NMH is working with copies of the files on your phone, I'm not sure what that does. I would think that if you're just browsing your phone instead of importing, then the "remove" would delete the file from the phone. Maybe NMHPM can expand on that.

    Absolutely!

When browsing the phone, "delete" deletes the file physically from the phone.

For the imported files you have two options. You can delete the imported file physically from the computer or simply remove it from the library. Removing from the library does not delete the file but hides it from the timeline and other views.

This does not have any influence on the original file on the phone. The removal can also be undone via Options/Library/Restore removed files.

This is all valid for the new version of Nero MediaHome since we introduced the distinction between delete and remove with the Nero 2014 release.

  • Thanks.

I'm glad you posted your last sentence because I couldn't find "delete" in NMH. In Kwik Media, I believe that "delete" will delete the file from the hard drive, if it's in the Library.
