Anybody know anything about '.DIM' file type to distribute music?

I just downloaded some albums of music in a file type called '.DIM'. I think they are attempts to rip analog disks in the old quadriphonic format. I hoped that Nero would volunteer to write this stuff to a disk of some kind. But it doesn't recognize the '.DIM' format. The only program that I have been able to find that doesn't choke on these things is 7Zip. 7Zip shows me two folders, AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS. There is data in both folders but so far I haven't found anything that knows how to handle the stuff in the AUDIO_TS folder. VLC can play the stuff in the VIDEO_TS folder. It shows me a text menu from which I can select a track to play (audio only). Does anybody know anything about the '.DIM' format in this multimedia context?

  • This might help explain what the .dim is-

    http://fileext.com/file-extension/dim...

The Audio_TS folder is usually empty. All the files, audio and video, are normally part of the Video_TS folder. You can open it in Nero Video and see the audio files and even export them to file. I think you can open the Audio_TS folder in Nero Video unless it's empty. What stuff is in the that folder?

  • Contents of the AUDIO_TS folder of an obscure operetta by Carl Zeller.

    ATS_01_0.BUP
    ATS_01_0.IFO
    ATS_01_1.AOB
    ATS_01_2.AOB
    AUDIO_PP.IFO
    AUDIO_TS.BUP
    AUDIO_TS.IFO

Note the two .AOB files. A normal DVD would have .VOB files. When I pont VLC at the Video_ts folder I get a menu of track names. When I select a track name I get audio, not video. The uploader of the set of files includes the following in his title: "Quadro-DVD-A/V". I think that's a clue. I sent him a message and asked him for more info on how he created he files and what he expected downloaders to do. I got a really terse message back

    dim = disc image
    use Nero, Power Iso..........

As near as I can tell, Nero doesn't know how to handle file type '.DIM' Ditto for Power ISO. At least I actually have Nero. I would have to buy PowerISO which I am reluctant to do, given that their website doesn't include '.DIM' in their list of supported formats.

All I have been able to find on the web is similar to the page you found. No mention of using the .DIM format to rip a DVD-audio disk,,

I have three or four of these multidisk sets of files and I have about decided that they are more trouble than they are worth.

  • If you have Nero MediaHome, try dragging and dropping a .aob file into it.

You can drag and drop the video_ts into it also and play it.

What exactly do you want to do with this? You can burn a DVD-Video disc in Burning Rom by adding both folders that you have into the compilation.
