  • I'll assume it's a legitimate question.

AutoBackup was only available in v10.

If it created a backup job in Backitup, then just delete the job. I think this should be the case. (I'm not going to start it to check it out).

If not, you should have Nero Backup agent icon in the "notification" area of your desktop. Right click on it and select "disable Backitup Agent" or other appropriate selection.

  • Yes, it's legitimate. I do have the v 10 but I can't find a "notification area" or anything that says "disable backitup agent". I went into the settings on Autobackup and put a zero in all of the boxes. Kept being asked for a legitimate schedule so that didn't work either. Do you have any other suggestions please?
    Thanks

I created a AutoBackup of some files. I let it run.

    I then closed Backitup.

When I reopened it, there were no jobs shown.

I clicked on Backup, Autobackup. When it opened, I got the screen shown here-

I clicked on the button shown in red.

I then clicked on the button shown in red in the following screen-

    does that help?

  • Thank you SO much.. I think I had tried just about every button, window etc. except the orange one in the corner. Have now turned autobackup off so hope my computer runs a little better.
    Again, thanks for that

  • You're welcome. I'm glad you found it.

In regards to your comment that you couldn't find the notification area, the notification area is in the far right corner of the Desktop. If a backup is active, the backitup agent icon should be shown in this area. If not, you might have to click on the < to show all notifications. Right clicking on that should give you the option to stop the backup from being able to run by clicking on "Close Nero Backitup Agent". This description should be correct for all Windows OS's except possibly Win 8 (I don't have or want it).

  • Thanks for the further info. I have tried to get on to the MS Forum for Windows 7 but am getting in a pickle (I'm a senior and not too sure what I am doing). All I know is my computer is running really slow lately. I have downloaded and updated the drivers ( 6 of them) and I have downloaded Spark Trust but am still having problems. I appreciate you answered my Nero question and am wondering whether you can help me with this please? It would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks

  • I'm 69. Does that qualify me as a senior? :)

There are a lot of reasons for a system to run slow so it's hard to pinpoint a specific item. Here's some general things.

Periodically go to Start, All Programs, Accessories and find the Windows Disk Cleanup utility. Run it on your C: drive. After it shows you how much it can remove, make sure you checkmark "Temporary Files" and "Empty Recycle Bin". Then let it finsh and reboot.

After that, defrag your hard drive (I'm assuming that's where your operating system is) using the Windows Disk Defragmentation utility in Accessories, System Tools. In fact, you might want to set that to run periodically when your system is running. I find that it doesn't bother anything else I'm doing at time it's running.

If that doesn't help, I have some more ideas.

  • uh - uh! you have to be in the seventies to qualify! I did do a disk clean up and a defrag and I've run LOTS of security scans but to no avail. The slowness is not only in the opening of programmes but there is a delay of several seconds when I type. I thought that might be a mouse or keyboard problem so I changed those over but it didn't make any difference. Can I have some more of your ideas please?
    Thanks
ps even though I have turned off all autobackups on Nero I checked that my Windows backup wasn't running too, which it wasn't. There are still "working noises" coming from my tower at all times - the sound it makes when it is running backup so I don't know if something is working that shouldn't be, but have no idea what!
pps - as a matter of interest it took 11 seconds for this window to appear after I hit "reply"

  • I'll have to wait a few months to qualify. However, I do get senior golf rates, dinner rates, etc. AARP accepts members who are as young as 50.

Open Task Manager and Processes. Click on Memory (Private..) to arrange memory usage from high to low. Are there any processes running there that are taking up a lot of memory and you don't need running?

Run msconfig.exe. In the Startup items, is there anything there (that you're familiar with) that you don't need running in the background? If so, disable it. Disabling anything won't make it unusable. You'll just have to start it when you need it. Obviously, you're not going to disable things like anti-virus since you want that running all the time.

  • Hi - I gave in and contacted MS giving them remote access. After just over 4 hours they fixed the problem but I wasn't informed what the problem was!
    Thanks for your help

    Enjoy!
