I have Nero 2017 Classic and am using Windows 10 64 bit system. When I import a hi def MP4 file, very often when I go to look at it in the first screen, it either freezes or, when it plays, I get the sound but a black screen. Obviously I can't clip the beginning and end when I can't see the picture. Also, I tried doing it in the editing screen and the same thing happens. I think an update is needed to take care of this. Let me know what I can do since working with the files when they do this is impossible. Sometimes it is fine but often this happens.

By the way, I have tried deleting and re importing a number of times and it doesn't help.

What is the format of the audio in the mp4?
If the mp4 is smaller than 2 GB, upload it to a free account at Dropbox or, if larger, to something like one drive. Share it and provide a link to it. -

The file is 15.7 GB. I believe the audio is AC3. The interesting thing is, I made another file of the same program using a smaller bit rate. That file is an M2TS and is 9.53 GB and it worked fine. Could it be that Nero can't handle the larger file size?

There has been some discussion of the file size previously. Is your v2017 up to date as determined by running the check for updates?

I think they still support v2017.

When did you submit that e-mail?
Responses from Nero are very slow during the holidays. As you might expect, many people take time off and of course, they're inundated with problems when they get back. -

I figured it was something like that. I do think that Nero Classic can't handle a big file like that. The smaller file I made of the same show worked fine.
I submitted the email last Saturday so it isn't really that long. -

By the way, if you go to Options, Application Settings in Nero Video, is Nero background editing enabled? If not, do so. Also, if you change the position of the slider in the icon on the bottom left of the preview screen does that do anything to help? -

Editing is on. Slider doesn't help. Still get sound and no picture.

Yes. They didn’t know why either. The only thing they thought it might be is that the file was too large. They didn’t understand why the file was so large.

The file was too large to attach on their site. They wanted me to download a program and send it through that--I believe it was Winrar and one other. The file was too large to send for free. I would have had to pay to send it through them and the other one and I didn't want to pay for this so I never sent it. I didn't hear from anybody for a while and thought the issue was closed since I didn't send the file so I deleted the file. I don't have it anymore. I did send them all sorts of information about the file--size, codecs and other stuff. This is not something that happens all the time but it happens often enough.
Is there anything we can do about it now? I suspect not since I don't have the file.
When it happens again I can contact you since I am sure it will happen again at some point. Is there a way to contact you directly? -

I don’t have the file anymore. When this happens in the future I will contact you with the new file. Since I don’t have the file anymore I don’t think there is anything we can do now. Also, I clicked on the You Tube link you sent. It is a Bob Seeger video. Don’t know how that relates to the problem.
