burn mp3 files to cd AND work in the car stereo

I have nero 2014 platinum and need this to do basic function: create a cd of mp3s that plays in the car. older versions had about 0 problem doing this, really getting tried of making coasters testing various functions. what I am looking for is clear directions on making a working cd. everything looks fine on the computer but every car stereo spits them out. my guess is the process is not creating an eof marker or somehow is not finalizing the disc despite being checked to do so.

  • Hello tom sawyer,

This will actually depend on which kind of CD you create with Nero (Audio or Data), and which formats are actually supported by your car stereo. Please note that not all car stereos support mp3 formats, so you will actually need to create an Audio CD to assure compatibility.
In such a case, you need to select Audio CD within Nero Burning Rom or Nero Express.

Within Nero Burning Rom select "Audio CD" in the New Compilation Window.
Within Nero Express select "Music" > "Audio CD".
Try using a low burn speed, and CD-R media instead of CD-RW.

    Best regards,
    NeroUser

  • while it is correct not all cars read mp3s, at this point most cars or units in the last 8 year do. I have been playing mp3 disc in units for 15 years. all mp3 discs I created under an older nero and older computer work fine. the new version has yet to produce a cd I can play in any of the 3 cars I've tried. the old ones work fine so problem is either the burner in the computer or the software. since I have copied an audio cd fine and some other things pretty sure it's not the burner. I have been using cdr, the same style, brand, etc as previous ones.

again, I want to create a disc that holds mp3 files for the car. what is the process under the latest nero?

  • The main problem here: There is no standard for mp3 cds. So, it depends on your player, how exactly the cd should look like.
Some player expect all mp3s in the base-directory. Some expect special bitrates and so on.

Also: Many car cd-players cannot read udf-directories - so you can also try to create an iso-cd (instead of udf-cd).

But, as you see: There are no clear directions - it highly depends on your car cd-player and what exactly your car cd-player support.

  • wither, thanks for the response. I did fail to say I was using burner, not express. you're not included in the rest of the post.

the rest, thanx for all the help. solution was fire up the old computer and figure out the settings on old vs new. this thread was just a bunch of run around. when end users have to figure something out after reading responses that don't even seem close to correct, really says weak support

  • I don't understand your comment. You got two good comments from nero employees. Now that I know which app your using, I would have asked for the log file to see if anything stood out.

Also, you can send an e-mail to tech support at any time.

    What settings were different?

  • Burning a music CD converts the files to 'cda' limiting the amount of music one can get on a CD.
Burning a data CD leaves the files ion 'mp3'.
That was the persons question. I did some experimenting.
