I’m Frustrated

Burning a DVD nvc file to view on a DVD player.

Silver surfer here with frustration. I have successfully edited some DVD's, cutting out parts and creating titles, but now can't recode ready for burning to play on a DVD player. My saved file is in nvc format. How can I recode this file and burn so that it is viewable on a DVD player through a TV?

  • Hello Alison-

To create a DVD that is playable in a standalone DVD player, you must author it to to the DVD-Video structure in Nero Video.

The .nvc file is a project file that you created in Nero Video. It contains no media files so you can't recode it and there's no need to.

I'll assume you created the project in Make Advanced Movie (if you have v14 or v2015) and you saved it from the Editing screen.

Open Nero Video and select Open Nero Video Project (if you're saved .nvc isn't shown on the opening screen) and browse to your .nvc. Open it. It will open in the Editing screen. Click on Next and select Create a disc- DVD-Video. Click on next and you'll be in the Content screen where you can add chapters. The next screen will be the Menu Editing screen where you can create a menu. The next screen will be the preview screen and the next screen will be the burn screen. In the burn screen, you can burn directly to disc. If you burn it to your hard drive, it will create a Video_TS folder which can be burned to DVD-Video disc in either Burning Rom or Nero Express.

  • Thanks for your swift reply. We have Nero 12 and still trying to understand it! Will try following your advice later today and let you know our results. Why is it therefore necessary/advisable to save in .nvc at all? Sorry if our questions seem very simple..trying hard!

  • Saving a project makes it unnecessary to reproduce all the edits you have already made for instances in which you might not have finished editing yet or you might want to reuse it for another project.

Since you have v12, my reference to Make Advanced Movie should be replaced with Make Movie or Slide Show.

We'll help you with any questions you have.

  • We have now tried to follow your instructions, but still can't make a DVD that is viewable through a standalone DVD player. I fear we have created a compilation which is data only, but don't know how we arrived at it! We burned to the hard drive, then attempted to burn from there onto a disc, but it wasn't recognised in Nero Video. Trying from the file, we right-clicked on the file, and the option was 'Burn data disc'. Then appeared the following:
'You have added DVD-Video content to a compilation type that will not result in a DVD-Video compliant disc. To create discs playable in standalone DVD Video players, please use the DVD-Video compilation type'.
Does this mean we have to start the whole compilation process again, from the four separate discs, editing and cutting out parts etc etc? Is there a way it can be converted without this further frustration?

  • Hi Alison-

Well, you found a situation which we were talking about. If you saved your project as a .nvc, all your edits are there and all you have to do is open it up again.

You could have burned directly to disc from Nero Video.

However, you have the Video_TS folder which is the DVD-Video structure.

If you're burning from Burning Rom, you would select DVD-Video in the opening screen and then select New. In the New Compilation window, browse to the Video_TS folder and drag and drop it into the compilation. Then burn.

In Nero Express, you would select Videos, DVD-Video Files. In the subsequent screen, click on Add and browse to the Video_TS folder and add it. Burn.

  • Well, we've tried your suggestion.......selected DVD-Video in the opening screen, then selected 'New'. The Video_TS and the Audio_TS appeared automatically in the left hand box. We dragged them both into the middle which we presume is the compilation, but the 'burn' button was not lit up and it would not allow us to burn. Why could this be?
We tried briefly in the Nero Quick Media, but couldn't seem to find the Video_TS folder at all. Any more suggestions?

  • By the way, we still have the original .nvc with all our editing which we can view through Nero Video.

  • The Video_TS and Audio_TS that show up in the compilation area on the left hand side are dummies. You have to browse to your Video_TS file (don't worry about the Audio_TS file, you don't need it). The browser should be on the right hand side of the screen. If no browser is shown, click on View, Browsers. Then browse to your Video_TS.

By the way, if you're using KwikMedia, you're version is out of date. Go to the Nero ControlCenter and run the check for updates. Install all that appear.

However, are you using a purchased v12 or is it a version that came with a disc. Just asking because you might not have all the plug-ins needed to burn from Nero MediaHome (the replacement for KwikMedia).

  • Great. I'm glad the problem is resolved.

I hate to say I hope to see you again since that only means more problems. LOL But that's what I and the other volunteers are here for so don't hesitate to ask for help.

    Enjoy!

  • If you start out in any of the "Make .............." options, the "Create a Disc" option will appear when you click Next from the screen where you imported your videos.

You said you have the same problem. Are you working with a .nvc file similar to Alison? I'm asking because if you saved your project from the Content screen or Menu Editing screen, the disc type is already determined.

  • I’m Very Frustrated.
I have Nero 2016 Plat - and I have the same problem, with this addition. I have 3 .nvc files I want to put on a DVD - with a menu like screen to select which one to play. How do you do that?

Also - one of the .nvc files is made up of movies I took with my iPad and camera. some of the movies when loaded come in sideways. How do you rotate them?

I wish Nero had a Good Help Manual. Wouldn't that be nice.

  • The help files are at nero.com, support.

You would have to open each .nvc separately and export it to file. When all three are exported, select DVD, DVD-Video at the Nero Video opening screen. Import the three files but don't join them. In the menu editing screen, select a Titles Only menu. Burn.

In regards to rotating, you can do that in Advanced Editing. With the video on the timeline, open the effect palette. Click on the video. It's properties will show up on the right hand side. Select Rotation and rotate as necessary. I don't know which screen you saved the project from so I can't get more detailed.

  • Bob,

I just wanted to add that a rotation can be accomplished in Express Edit Mode easily:
