Can I divide a video in two video clips without recoding?

Is it possible, with Platinum 2014, divide a video in two video clips without recoding?
Just two video clips with the same frame size, same frame rate, same kbps as the original one!
It's so frustrating to recode hours of videos, in order to have just a part of the original!
I don't want to waste hours and hours from my time, just to have a video on two pieces and with different codes than the original one!
Thanks in advanced
Nik

  • Hi Nik-

You can do that in Nero Video. When you open it, select Make Advanced Movie. Import your video and drag it to the timeline. Click on the scissors on the right hand side. Hover them over the video on the timeline. Simply click when you see where you want to cut. You might want to zoom into the timeline for more precise location.

After you've made your cut, click on the white arrow on the right to disable the scissors.

If you start out in DVD, DVD-Video or one of the other disc type projects, you can do the same thing with the scissors in the Content screen.

The big question is what do you want to do with the resulting clips?

  • Hi Nik
Sorry Wither I think this is what Nik is talking about
A picture is worth a thousand words (so they say) After you import your clip into Nero Video look at the screenshots to get two separate clips.

I think it still doesn't answer the original question ...
Can the two clips be saved then without having to "transcode" them?

  • What oldmickthejoiner described is exactly what I mentioned in my first post.

Lucky Phil- that's the point of my question.

    Nik,

Generally speaking, you cannot do what you want with Nero. However, in certain very special instances you can use "SmartEncoding" to do the recoding rapidly.

    I have one program that does do what you want, I think. I'm not all that familiar with it, but it will remux a part of a video after start and stop times are specified. I split an MKV file into two M2TS files in two steps. The original file was 20 minutes long and took a total of about 10 seconds to split. The program is the free tsMuxer;

I'm sure there must be other programs that will do exactly what you want. Perhaps, another user will have more ideas.

  • Just to clarify, you can do the split in Nero but you must either recode or export the individual videos if he wants the individual videos on his computer. I asked what he wanted to do with the separate videos because, if all he wants to do is to burn a disc in which the videos are separate titles, he doesn't have to perform the recode or export operation. He didn't answer so that has us guessing. Nice little program.

  • Hi all and thanks to all of you, for your replies.
Sorry for my English and for posting after some days!

My issue is what exactly @Lucky Phil had say!
"Can the two clips be saved then without having to "transcode" them? "
That's the point. The only very important thing that I have to add to this is:
    "with Nero Premium 2014"
You see @Omega Tester, thanks for your very important and significant solution, some years ago I had purchased at about 100€ Nero. Then year after year, because I always preferred purchase original SW, I paid more than 150€ extra for updating and upgrading Nero. Now I can’t think that a SW for video editing CAN NOT just split a video in two clips. Just a simple window, in which you can say: “first clip from 00:00 to xx:xx and second clip from xx:xx to end”
As you say in 10 SECONDS and NO transcode request!!!
    Wither
    Yes this is my problem-issue!
    For example:
I have a video Full HD of about 3GB took with my smart. The smartphone cannot handle a video more then 2GB, and it can't split it.
I need only the initial part of that video (about 1,7GB).
How can I have this video clip QUICKLY (less than five minutes) and WITHOUT changing quality/characteristics (frame rate, streaming velocity etc. etc)?
I just want to split it!

    Regards
    Nik

  • If I'm not so "clear" enough then, just
    use Nero Premium 2014 to
split quickly a video file from PC's HDD in two clips with same characteristics/quality and
    save them on PC's HDD....

  • If all you need is the initial part of the video, then you can use the trim function in either Recode or Nero Video. As we've mentioned, you still have to export it to file in Nero Video or recode it in Recode. If you chose the same format as the original, the encoding time should be minimal.

Elsewise, you would need to use a program such as that described by Omega Tester.

  • Nope...
I'm sorry Wither 1, I appreciate your reply but, that's not an acceptable answer on my thread. I just want

to split a video and save the clips on HDD, quickly and with exactly the same quality,
WITH my Nero Premium 2014 that I had purchased (for a total of more than 250€!!!) during last years!!!

Your answer is a "How to" on Video editing with Nero!
Anyway, I had tried, following your advices, to made 2:11min of 25min of that video (3GB, FullHD, 29fps, 16997kbps) in high quality (2pass) and about the same bit rate (the same wasn't possible???).
    The results?
More than 15min of wasted time and a 277MB video clip on visible/evident lower quality than original!!!!

Now as you are an "Old" and Very Expert member(employee?) of Nero's Forums/Communities and as I know that all experts have a privilege way on contacting Nero's Staff, and, as I see on up right corner that "Nero AG employees are here to help."
I would appreciate to much if you or anybody else "intercedes" with Nero's SW engineers, in order to implement an additional voice on menus of Nero Video/Recode on which:
one could be able to save a video clip of an original and without changes video (except time video's length) quickly and with the same quality(of original) on a new file!!!!

Otherwise for me this (update on Nero premium 2014) was the last update/upgrade purchased!

Expecting a definitive answer from Nero's Staff
    Regards

  • I have no idea what you chose for the export options and profile settings in Nero Video except that you used 2-pass (which usually isn't necessary unless a person has low resolution video that he/she wants to eke out the best quality). All that I can tell is that you have 1080p, NTSC.

Don't hold your breath for a Nero employee to respond (I would be pleased if one did). Your best option is to send an e-mail to techsupport@nero.com.
