Can I revert back to a non backup set up?

Hi I have a verbatim portable HD which came with NeroBackitup on it. I had files already on that drive. I decided to install backitup on my pc and at some point, I have been asked if I wanted to use that external drive as a backup. I answered yes and now I do not see my files that were on already on the drive. What happened? I did not see any warnings that my files would be erased in the process. Can I revert back? Thanks.

  • I suspect you have Backitup 5 which includes Autobackup. The message you got also said the drive you're backing up to would be reformatted (I believe those are the words). No matter, you will have to use something like Recover My Files to retrieve your files. Don't write to that drive until you've retrieved your files.

Correct me if I'm wrong about the version.

  • Hi Wither, thank you for the fast reply. I'm pretty sure that the software never mentioned that the drive would be reformatted, in which case I would have stopped the process! Anyway, I have downloaded Recover my files and it is now processing the drive. As for the Backitup version I've used, I have no idea. Came with the drive. Once my files are recovered, I will try to find out the version number and I'll get back to you with the info. Best Regards, Michel.

  • Please do. The problem you have is the same one that was prevalent with Autobackup. People didn't read the message carefully. A request to have a second message asking if you really wanted to do that was submitted to tech support. However, AutoBackup was replaced by LiveBackup and this behavior was modified.

  • Hi Wither, sorry for the delay. I got back all my files, which is good news. But I did not find the directory where the Backitup was. The only thing that I can tell you is that I have a "Nero Local Autobackup" directory on the drive. So you were right about that, it was the Autobackup feature that caused the problem. Thank you so much for taking the time to help me with this problem. From now on, I will be more careful reading messages from software packages. Best Regards, Michel.

  • I'm thrilled that you got your files back.

The Backitup jobs and related files are normally in this path-

    C:\Users\"user name"\AppData\Roaming\Nero

The major Backitup program files are in this path for a 64 bit system-

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Nero

Backitup should also be shown in Control Panel, Programs and Features.
