Cannot reinstall NERO Platinum due to .NET error.

I'm trying to re-install Nero Platinum -15.0.02200, because Nero video had broken but Nero burning rom still was OK.
Process failed, with error trying to install .NET 4. I believe I have a newer version of .NET installed. Any attempt to install Nero fails because .NET problem. I used REVO to completely delete NERO but still no joy. I need help to put my NERO program back please. THanks, Ian

  • Hello ian-

    I suggest going here-

    http://www.nero.com/enu/downloads/pre...

and downloading that installer. Then, right click on it and select "run as administrator."

    Does that help?

Also, what is your operating system?

  • Ok. Downloaded that version - to my folders on C:\user\ian\downloads.
Said "pending .net framework 4.0 client" and pending "reboot validator"

pressed enter and got "appears to have failed. continue?" hit enter and system rebooted.

got error "invalid drive J error 1327"

    Install failed.

Why J drive is involved I have no idea. Must be a hidden entry in the registry that is pointing to J: ?

    Thanks for your assistance Wither.

  • Can't find a reference in the registry to anything to do with J: drive. Nero install source is c:\users\ian\AppData\local\temp\NeroInstallFiles\NERO20130909142648953\ISSetupPrerequisites\microsoftXml4.0Sp3\

  • I have since tried the NERO removal tool (clean) and it says no Nero found.

  • In another thread, tech support suggested a fix which worked and this is the users response-

I opened regedit and looked in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders for any references to the 'bad drive'. I found three, edited them to C:\users\\ and install worked.

Before doing this, you might either create a system restore point or Export your registry to a folder you can remember.

  • Well, after much mucking about I DID get Nero 12 to install partially. Burning ROM worked but Nero video hung.
I Revo uninstalled V12, and tried V14 again. It says that it will only run under XP, Vista and Win7. Well it won't run on my Win7Pro and it bailed out on the installation. What am I missing?
I did remove all references to drive J: from the registry and pointed it to MY Documents on C:. It did still do a backup to H: for some reason.

This was all working well until I had issues a few weeks ago with USB drivers (now fixed).
Do you have any more insights Wither? THanks.

  • Sounds like one problem is out of the way. It's possible that the USB driver issue caused the J: drive problem.

I wouldn't use Revo for all these uninstalls. Just uninstall from Control Panel.

v14 will run in all those OS's and Win 8 (and 8.1). I have it installed on Win 7 Pro and Vista.

In regards to v14, right click on the downloaded .exe file and select Properties. In the Compatibility tab, set the mode to Win 7 (or Vista, if it's blank or already set to Win 7). Also, check the box to "run this program as administrator." Apply the changes. Try the installation.

I don't know what you mean when you said it did a backup to drive H:. Did you try to do a backup or did something else happen?

  • There was a reference in the registry to drive h: as a backup, and I deleted.

Unfortunately the problem is deeper. Out of sheer desperation I bought a copy of Nero 2018. It said it installed "successfully". It did not. So I have contacted Nero support and will wait until they get a tech onto it. If they can't find the solution I will get my money back and shop for another product. A shame, since I have been using Nero since rev 6 quite happily.

I'll let you know if they are successful. Thanks for all your suggestions. I have no other hardware or software issues at this stage although I suspect it is all due to the .net framework issues. Since my rev is more recent, Nero always tries to install a lower version of .net during installation.

So something may be wrong. I'm connected with the nero support people as well. I don't like it when I'm told the software install has been successful but nothing will run. We'll see what they come up with.

  • It doesn't look to me like Win 7 has all the updates. Have you run the Windows updater and installed all updates?

Open Control Panel, Programs and Features. What is the version number shown for Microsoft .netframework?

Since tech support doesn't work on weekends, would you try this-

Click on Start, All Programs, Accessories. Right click on Command Prompt and select "run as administrator." Type in SFC /Scannow. Let it run. Does it find any problems?

  • There are no updates available. SFC reports no issues. But I can no longer see an entry for .netframework. Not sure where that went.
Each attempt to install Nero tries to install some version of .netframework, but it looks like it is not succeeding? As I've mentioned before (I think) it is the .netframework that is failing with Nero installs. I'll try to fix the problem now.

  • I suggest going here-

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downl...

and downloading/installing this version of .net framework.

If it worries you, you should first set a system restore point.

  • Problem solved !

I decided to quiz Microsoft. After several false and escalating technicians, Microsoft threw up their hands and they downloaded a supersize version of Win7 (2Gb) and without telling me they managed to cream my primary disk and do an install. Trouble was that I had no USB drivers and so had no mouse. Very difficult to try and fix that problem so I reinstalled my original Win7 disk, and that has solved the problems with Nero installation.
I found that turning off secondary disks via the bios helped to focus Windows attention onto just the C drive.
Anyway, thank you very much for your assistance, which proved to be beyond all our best efforts, including Microsoft. Very wierd.
Please mark this issue "solved". Ian

  • I hope they didn't charge you too much. Every once in a while, people with Nero problems, turn to Microsoft. I can't remember one instance (we're going back 10 years) where they have helped. (Now, don't be doing a search through this forum. :D Luckily, the old forum is no longer accessible.)

Out of curiosity, can you see your .net framework versions now? If so, what are they?

I don't know why disabling other drives in the BIOS would help. You certainly want to enable at least one ROM drive again so that you can reinstall Windows at some later date, if necessary.

  • Hi there. Well Microsoft didn't charge me a cent !!! They did reinstall Windows, which I had been trying to avoid. But no damage since all was backed up and laid off on the disabled drives. Incidentally, with no Windows USB support - my USB mouse was actually working just fine in the BIOS settings area. I have an ASUS P9D WS mother board and Xenon processor, and it is a joy to work with. Simple mouse clicks to enable/disable drives etc. For some reason Microsoft was installing downloads to/from my highest-letter drive, and it was driving me crazy so I turned off all but the primary disk..
Years ago I actually received a genuine "Attaboy" from Microsoft, but never called in my free support call, so maybe they remembered me ???
I was a Z80 fan long before Bill Gates. Thanks for your support Wither. Ian
