Can't install Nero

Hi nero

I bought Nero burning rom 2018 the other day and downloaded it. But then, if I click on the installation wizard, I can't install it on my computer. It gives me the following error message:
Error code nero: An error occurred when installing visual C ++ redistributable for VS 2015. To complete the installation, install Windows 8.1 April 2014 Update via windows first.
I don’t know which Windows I have currently, I tried to look by playing around a bit, but can’t see the year.
Please help.
Juliana

  • Do you know how to get to Control Panel in Windows? If so, go there and click on System. The version of Windows you have will be there. Out of curiosity, are you routinely getting Windows updates?

    Go here-

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downl...

Click on Download. Select the X86 version and download it.

Right click on it and select "run as administrator."

    Does it install?

If so, retry the Nero installation.

  • Hi Wither, thank you for yr reply. Remember you successfully helped me about a year ago? In the meantime, my hard drive crashed (it was very old) and I lost the old Nero; I didn't have the CD anymore and I now had to buy a new version of Nero online. The computer professional installed windows 8.1 Pro 2013 (thanks, I was able to see that now, after yr instructions) but he kept the CD; it is his.

I haven't seen windows asking me to do updates, unless it does so all by itself. It does ask me to update windows defender (the antivirus) though, and I do so. I don't want to update windows because it's then that all the computer problems start - from my experience in the past.

Must I now do the other thing you asked? (Click on Download. Select the X86 version and download it.

Right click on it and select "run as administrator."

    Does it install? )

It won't do funny stuff to my computer such as delete my office or any other funny stuff?

Because I remember the last time another guy gave me the advice to do something and to go on a website to repair my computer and then it deleted my entire office! And the computer professional loaded office for me but kept the CD so I can't download office again.

  • Wow! That was some thread from a year ago.

You really should update Windows as updates become available.

No, doing what I suggested won't cause those problems. If you're antsy about it, you could always first create a system restore point.

The advice you gave above: will that update my windows and will I then be able to install Nero?

How do I create a system restore point?

  • I didn't give you any instructions which would cause a Windows update.

To update Windows, open Control Panel and click on Windows Update. It will search for and list all available updates. You can then select and install them. I would install maybe 4-5 at a time until done. If you don't have Windows Update set to automatically install updates, there may be a lot of them and that could take some time. I would do that and then try the Nero installation. Note that when you install updates, a system restore point will automatically be created.

Note that you can also set it to do the updates automatically within Windows Update. It might be easier to do that and let it do the updates.

I don't have Win 8 so I'll give you some instructions I found on the web for manually creating a system restore point-

How to Create a Restore Point for Windows 8

Open the Start screen, type System Restore, and click the word Settings in the Search pane on the right.

Click the Create a Restore Point link.

Click the Create button to fetch the System Protection window, type a name for your new restore point, and then click the System Protection window’s Create button to save the restore point.

  • Thanks for yr help so far. If I click on control panel, I see the following: System and security; Network + internet; hardware + sound; programs (uninstall a program); user accounts and family safety; appearance + personalisation; clock, access + region and Ease of access. There's no windows update. I thought it might be under programs, there is: programs + features and default programs. Under programs and features are: Uninstall a program; turn windows on or off; view installed updates; run programs made for previous versions of windows and how to install a program. Where must I go now to find 'Windows Update'? and cause it to update windows?

It's not necessary that I have to update to windows 9 or 10 is it? Because I've seen that once you do that, the big computer problems start. It's best to stick with what you have.

  • I typed 'windows update' in the start panel and it led me to windows update. It looks like windows update was a hidden file. So I'm updating windows now. Thanks.
