Captions on each slide?

Trying out the MediaHome product for making a slide show.

When making slide show, is it possible to add captions to each slide? Looks like all I can do is add a title to the slide show.

Thank you for you help

  • Hi Anne-

You can click on a Photo in a slide show and then select Edit Photo. Then click on it and select Add Missing Faces. A rectangle will open over the photo which you can move. Underneath it, you can select Add Name and type in what ever you want.

    Does that help?

  • Anne,

As I understand it, there's a MediaHome 4 and MediaHome 2015. I know nothing of the first. If you have MediaHome 2015, I don't think you can do what you want to do unless you first add the text to the photos (permanently!) in another program such as Windows Paint, and then use them in your slideshow. If you have Nero Video, there would be no problem.

Another option would be to use something like Picasa's movie maker which allows the captions of your photos to be displayed. Then, use that movie output in Nero MediaHome if you want to add the theme, title, music, etc., around it.
    • Omega Tester- did you try what I mentioned? There's no capability in the NMH 4 to create a slide show. It's basically just a server with streaming capabilities.
    • Wither 1,

In an unrelated thread, you "jokingly" said, "Actually, I've always had this perverse desire to mess with people's minds.. Are you trying to live up to that?

You are actually asking if I have tried your suggestion to Anne?

I'll get to that, but first a comment. As my pseudonym probably implies to users, I will test what I can in an attempt to replicate problems raised in the forum topics. You seem reluctant to do that.

I recall a poster asking you in the old forum, "Why the name 'wither'?". An explanation was not forthcoming as I recall, which is fine. But, I'd like to suggest a name change for you that will more accurately portray your behavior to the uninitiated.

I have mentioned in the past that your use of that "Nero" icon and the general tone of your replies leads newcomers to believe that your are a Nero employee and that you know what you're talking about.

However, there would be no such confusion if you were to switch your pseudonym and icon to:

accompanied by a motto such as, "Questions 4U", for example.

But, back to the topic! I actually did try your suggestion and found the instructions to be inaccurate and the results less than satisfying. First, the entered "name" does not appear in the slideshow. However, it does get entered into the 'Faces" database, polluting it beyond belief!

Now, it is possible that I haven't interpreted your steps correctly, I suppose. So, let me ask, "Have you tried it?" If not, please do and post a screenshot. Or, better yet, actually create the slideshow and upload it to YouTube as I have done with the following "Picasa Experiment".

  • I have tested problems for you on numerous occasions. Remember that long list of problems in v12? I have tested countless times for many people. I have a folder for video and audio files people provide for testing. It gets pretty full and I have to keep emptying it. Not so bad lately. I spent 3 hours testing on the problem with the blu-ray player. I have files all over two computers that I created for that and now have to remember where they are so I can delete them. That will likely never happen again. If it wasn't for rain, I probably wouldn't have done it at all. I was able to finish heavy duty cutting on 80 feet of forsythia and planted grass seed. Got one of the cars fixed, fixed my hose reel.................. The list goes on.

I chose Wither because it was easy for me to remember.

Of course, none of this helps Anne.

However, I want to thank you for testing it. Everything displays properly when you're doing it but it doesn't display on the photo so I was wrong. :( Should have stuck to my first instinct and told her to use Nero Video..

  • I’m Hopeful
I don't have MediaHome. I have Nero Kwik Media. I have created a slide show and now would like to add some captions. I have made this slide show primarily for an elderly couple whose camera stopped working early in our Norway Coastal Cruise this past May. The slide show does play well on my home DVD player and that is what I want to send this sweet couple.

  • Darlene- your version 12 is out of date. Kwik Media was replaced by Nero MediaHome. Please go to the Nero ControlCenter and run the check for updates.

The best way for you to create a slide show with captions on the photos is to use Nero Video. I suggest that you open Nero Video, Make Movie or Slide Show and select Advanced Editing (you can also use Express Editing but there are fewer options).

Select Import, Import Disc. With your disc in the drive it should provide the option for you to select the video from the disc, which will appear in the media area under Videos. Drag it to the time line.

To add captions, click on the Effect Palette and select Text. Chose a text effect and drag it over a photo on video track 2. Most people would probably select Multiline, Static Text. Click on Edit in the viewing window. You can edit the Sample Text to whatever you want to say and you can change the font and it's characteristics. Then click on Done in the viewing window.

If you want to reposition the text, the easiest way is to simply click and hold on the text in the viewing window and drag it wherever you want it. You can also use the Postition feature for the text effect which will appear on the right hand side when you have the effect palette open.

If you're going to be creating many captions and you want a different duration than the default, then before adding any text effects, click More, Configure, Edit. Set the duration you want there.

We can help with any questions.

  • yep, I know it is out of date. I am a rank amateur. I used prior versions of Nero and was very happy with it. UNTILLLLLL I bought the newest version (don't recall which one) and I could not open prior slide shows on the newest version. That is when the stuggles began. I talked to Nero people and they confirmed that I couldn't access my prior videos. So I have these slide shows on my computer with no ability to access them...PHOOOOOH. Luckily I have DVDs of these that I can copy. Sadly I had already given my old Nero (I think 7) away and that person couldn't work with it and threw it away. I know because I asked for it back. I kept buying new versions hoping to find a friendlier version. That did not work. Thank you for your suggestion. I will use them to finish up this final Nero project and then go on a search for "friendlier" software. Omega Testor has been a Godsend. I think him heartily.

Sorry, I am quickly losing my sense of humor. I try to follow directions and goto the Nero Control Center and it takes me to this place and then wants me to download and buy Norton. I don't want Norton. I have Eset and am happy with it.

  • I have never seen that before. It may a problem with Google.

You likely have Internet Explorer installed. I suggest closing the Google browser and launching Internet Explorer. Then run the Check for Updates.

You don't need to make IE your default brower to do this.

If that doesn't work, go to Nero.com, Downloads, Previous Product Downloads. Click on Nero 12 Versions. Download and install the appropriate installer. You might be able to do that without uninstalling v12.

  • Omega testor said I have to go to Advanced editing to get rid of shadows. Can I do that AFTER I have typed in the captions? When I go to advanced editing The timeline photos are all scrunched up and dragging the text styles to the individual photos is impossible.

  • In the screen shot you're showing, you just set the shadow distance to "0".

  • I’m DONE!!
yep, you told me how and I followed your instructions. I was just asking why there isn't the obvious selection of a very simple text with no shadows. I don't know if there was a simplier way. But I had to set the 0% shadow to each photo individually. All done. I think I spent like 80 hours doing this simple 17 minute slide show.

  • I failed to mention something to you earlier to make the process easier because it was late. :(

I assume you would want to make the design of the text effect that you created for each slide. In later versions, you can save the design with a specific name and add it to your Favorites. In v12, what you can do when you're finished with editing the text effect, is right click on it and select Copy. Then move the red positioning line to where you want the next effect and then right click somewhere on the timeline and select Paste. Keep repeating the process. The only thing you would need to do in each case is change the text.
