Changing the Recording Format Options from DVD to HD

Hi, I have some old Nero projects that burnt the output to DVD. I now want to go back to those and burn them as simple HD files. How do I change the Recording Format of a project or move an existing Movie into a new project?

  • I assume HD means hard drive. I would open them one at a time and select Export, Export to File.
    • I'm also assuming you have .nvc files.
    • Hi, thanks for your response.

HD meant High Definition (MP4, M2TS. The Originals are NVCs. I simply want to re-code projects (slide-shows, movies) that were originally for DVD as HiDef files.

When I have tried the Export function from within the Nero Video editor it creates a HiDef file but the image quality is awful. If I make a new HiDef project using the same source files the quality is fantastic - as expected.

So it seems, through experimentation, that the project type causes a de-grade of the source material when it is imported. Then is doesn't matter what format you export it as - the quality is already set.

Is there a way around this - even if it is to copy everything into a new project?

  • I'm don't know why it would degrade the quality. What is the resolution of the original files and what did you select for the output?

What is the version of Nero you're using?

  • Hi, the source quality is Canon 18mpixel SLR JPGs with no compression so it should be fine.

I found out part of the problem. When in a Video you have to select Options / Movie Options and set it to HD. If you do that then the Export will export with the correct quality, if you don't then the export ignores the quality selected and defaults to DVD.

So that works for some, but now another problem has arisen. For a lot of my projects (generally older ones) when I load them up and try to edit the Video it asks be to set a quality - as if I were creating a new video.

It then loads the photos but loses any music that I had. Not only that, but it won't allow me to select a Movie Option that isn't DVD compliant.

I can export with HD settings but the output is only DVD quality.

    I'm using Nero Video 2014.

The problem is that you created DVD-Video projects and saved them with that setting. As such, you can't change it in v14. You would have to start a new project, using your files, from scratch. In v2015 and later, you can change it to a different type of disc project. However, changing it to a HD format would mean creating either a blu-ray disc or AVCHD DVD project, both requiring playback in a blu-ray player.

Is the audio there before you go to the editing screen? Did the individual slide shows each have their own audio file? I noticed you didn't originally join your slide shows when you saved your project.
