Converted files "skip" with Hardware Acceleration on. Nero 2016

Nero Recode is not converting files correctly with Hardware Acceleration turned on. Just upgraded to Intel i5-8400 and new motherboard. No extra video card. Nero 2016. Files convert very fast, but with hardward acceleration the files are "gliching" or "skipping". Is there a solution for this?

  • Hello Mr. Combs-

Normally, hardware acceleration is to be used with a discrete graphics card.

Would you upload a file to a cloud website such as dropbox.com, onedrive, etc., and provide a link for it?

  • I have had the same problem only on 2017 It's nothing to do with the graphics card I use Intel inbuilt on a 7th Gen i5 and it was working fine the problem is the windows 10 updates every month it seems to break parts of Nero I use Nero every day for my YouTube channel so I know all the in's and out's of the program the only solution at the moment is to turn the acceleration off this cures the problem hopefully on the next update it will cure this problem. I have had this happen though on 2016 which I have on my laptop and that runs Windows 8.1 so it is not just windows 10. I have not been able to find a fix so basically I just leave it switched off it only adds about 5 minutes to an encode and the end result is always better than the acceleration anyway but yes Nero would like a fix for this one day lol

  • Video Issues

In most cases, it is helpful to provide information on the problem source video. Probably the easiest way to provide detailed data on a video is to paste the data from the clipboard after following instructions in topic Use MediaInfo in Your Browser. Alternatively, uploading a video to one of the cloud services and pasting a link to the file enables others to download the file and try to replicate the issue.
It never hurts to also indicate:

    • The Nero application title and version.
    • The Windows version.
    • Graphics device
    • Project screenshots if applicable
    • Screenshots of error dialogs, if applicable
    • Output video parameters, such as format, resolution, quality, etc.

For recent versions of Nero, official support can be obtained directly from Nero:
    Support Issues
Help with issues involving recent Nero versions can be obtained directly from Nero by using the email contact form at Technical Support via e-mail. This requires a valid product serial number which has the form XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX (8 groups of 4 characters/digits separated by dashes. Note: The serial number will not have the letter 'O'. Since this is a public forum, DO NOT post your serial number. If your serial number is not accepted, use the contact form at Nero Customer Service.

  • Neither person has a graphics card. One is using v2016 and the other is using v2017. Dave is already going to technical support about his issue. Haven't gotten a response from Mr. Combs.

  • I dont have a good way to upload a file. Here are the specifics.
Starting file is .mpg or .avi
Family videos made with nero in 2002 - 2007

gliching end file does not seem to happen every time.

Nero Recode or Nero Video 2016
Extra issue with Nero Video when this happens is the conversion process does not complete, i have to abort.
output to avc using hardware acceleration

does not happen using output to avc with out acceleration
does not happen using mp4, single or double pass.

    Windows Home 10
    version 1803
    installed 5/1/2018

    Intel core i5-8400 @ 2.8GHz
    RAM 8 GB
    Intel UHD Graphics 630

I'm simply using mp4 double pass now.

My system has an Intel Core i7-4700MQ CPU @2.4 GHz with Intel HD Graphics 4600.

As you can see, there is a great deal of information in the MediaInfo data that may help, such as the duration of the file, the resolution, bitrates, codecs, etc.

Perhaps, you could try downloading the AVI file and recoding it?

  • Dave-

Just about every time there is a blink in your video, I see this-

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/yvfqmg4qijo...

What the heck is doing that? I don't recognize the icon.

    Sporadically, there's things like this-

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/eynbubjcch4...

which are only a couple of frames in duration. Are those supposed to be there?

I didn't notice Omega Tester's last post so the first link is primarily reproducing what he said.

  • Ray, I'm unable to download your original file. Would you check it?

However, the converted file is showing that the video either has or was converted with a higher frame rate than normal, such as using a fast motion effect. I applied a slow motion effect to it and don't see any reference to Auto Saving as in Dave's video. It seems to me that we've seen this before but I think it had to do with the driver for a graphics card (which you don't have).

  • Omega Tester-

If you're thinking of installing the Beta version of v2019, don't do it.

It completely disabled v11 through v2018 on my Win 7 system. I'm waiting for a fix.

  • Ray,

Unfortunately, I was unable to replicate your results. Your symptoms do not look the same as Dave's to me, but who knows?. As noted above, his appears to have a lot of random single frames appearing. I'm not sure what to say about yours. I placed your .MP4 on track one in Nero Video; I placed your .MPG video on track 2 and set its opacity to 50%. Then, I applied the 10X Express Slow Motion and exported the first minute of that:

    Tomorrow is another day!

  • Dave- I used v2015 Recode (I'm waiting for a fix from Nero to use v2016 because of a faulty v2019 installation) to recode your file to mpeg-4 using hardware acceleration. I have an NVIDIA GTX 560 graphics card. The resulting file plays correctly, the same as the original so, I didn't upload it. Note that my CPU doesn't have any graphics cores.

Ray- I did the same thing using your file with the same results as I had with Dave's file.

I think that the Intel UHD Graphics 630 is common to your systems and I suspect Nero has some work to do.

  • Thanks, Wither and Omega Tester and yes indeed I have an Intel UHD Graphics 630 on my 10-month-old HP Pavillion desktop PC with Nero 2017 I also have another PC that is 3 years old and I think that has Nero 2016 on it and that encodes fine so I am guessing that has an older Intel Graphics on it as it is 3 years old. And yes looks like Nero has some work to do this has actually stopped me from getting 2018 because I didn't want the same problem to crop up.

  • I ran across this blog in the Intel forum-

    https://communities.intel.com/thread/...

It's 6 months old but the problems sound similar and a driver seemed to fix them. What got me is that Intel said to try the driver and, if it didn't work, replace the processor. Whoa!

I repeat: Did you notice that on Dec 22, 2017 at 2:53 PM Intel said, "I just received an update on this matter and most of the performance issues Encoding/Decoding are explained by the applications not being optimized yet to utilize the Cofee Lake HEVC Hardware Encoder/Decoder. So far PowerDVD 17 Ultra and Kodi 17.6 are some of the ones we have successfully tested here. Performance will improve as new applications and drivers updates become available."

I think that means that Nero has to change their software in order to use the hardware acceleration.
    • Noted. Let's hear what their response is to Dave.
