Custom Menu Problem in Nero 2018
I have Nero 2018 and am using Nero Video to create a blu-ray project. I have tried multiple burns with files and projects with success until I add a custom menu or audio file to the menu. If I try to customize the menu, the finished disc isn't readable. I have also downloaded the Content Pack 1 for 2019 and previous versions. Thanks in advance for the help.
-
I believe I have narrowed it down to the addition of custom music to the menu. Menus without audio work just fine and the disc reads properly. Any suggestions on how to add the music?
-
-
Please explain the process you use to add the music. Just need more details.
Note that you won't be able to add "HD" audio such as DTS. -
-
I select an animated menu and customize it with a picture and menu buttons, I add the audio in the background audio section. The discs read fine without the music but once I add the music, I can't get a disc to read properly.

How old is the mp3 and where did it come from? Up until a few years ago, a lot of the mp3 files that one could download were copy protected.
Would you download this file and give it a try-

I believe it's not copy protected. I just tried it after adding it to the background for a DVD-Video animated menu. "Tried" means I played it in the screen after the menu editing screen. -

That didn't seem to work. Does it need to be a wav file? This is a blu ray burn. Everything works fine until I burn the disc. In the preview screens everything plays fine.
-
-
I tried a wav file and that didn't work. After trying again without music, I could see the menu on playback but then got an "unsupported file type" on my PC.
I have had successful burns but only a couple. I even had one successful burn with custom music but now nothing. If I use a generic template, it burns just fine.
There must be something in my menu or a file type that is causing the error in Nero and I can't figure it out.
I have custom backgrounds and have modified the menu buttons ect. Will any of that cause these errors? -
-
Okay. I didn't about modifying the menu buttons.
With your project created, click on Customize and Advanced Editing in the menu editing screen.
At the bottom of the page, run Check Project. Does that find anything?
The most frequent problems with modifying/moving buttons is that they are either not linked properly or they overlap one another or a edge of the page.
What were you playing the disc with on your computer? v2018 doesn't have the Nero Blu-ray player. You would have to use something like Leawoo, VLC Player, etc. -
-
I am using advanced editing. There aren't any errors or anything. I've made sure the links are good and don't overlap. I made an image using gimp and that is what is on the menu screen. The image does go over the dotted lines on the screen, is that what you're talking about? I haven't added any text lines or anything out of the dotted line boxes, but the image goes to the end of the square.
-
-
I'm not talking about the background image.
When you mentioned overlap, I assume that the outer edge of a button isn't overlapping another. When you click on a button while editing, you will see it's outline in red. No part of the outline can touch or overlap another.
Maybe you can provide a screen shot (s) of your title menu and chapter menu (if you're using one). -
-
-
-
I normally use the Windows snipping tool for screen shots.
Do you have two titles in your project?. Just wondered what the two buttons are linked to. I guess you purposely deleted the default buttons and the header. Not sure which template you're using. -
-
Yes that's correct. I originally had the "Reflections" animation template. I saw in an old forum post someone mentioned using an animated template and then changing it around.
When I use the template as is without changing anything, it works fine. -
-
I'm kind of surprised that you're able to burn your subject matter. That video is pretty recent and thought it would be copy protected.
Which template are you using now.-
Also, which button are you using?

I recorded it from HBO a while back. I haven't changed anything in terms of template. I used the animated one and changed it around. That's kind of where I left it. Just trying to get some answers.
-
-
I'm using text only buttons. Arrow 1 and I've also tried "Tip 4" to see which one I thought looked better
-
-
Have you installed the Content pack? There should be more than one template in the animated templates.
-
-
Yeah there are several. In trying to figure out solutions, I downloaded the 2019 pack
-
-
They should be similar but I'm wondering if that's part of the issue.
I just created a similar project in another version and it works fine. I didn't try to burn it.
By the way, when testing, don't burn to a disc. Burn to your hard drive.
I've got to go. Talk to you tomorrow. -
-
Ok thanks for the help. How do I play the finished bluray if it's not on a disc?
-
-
-
-
Okay. What does that mean?
You would need a blu-ray player such as the free Leawoo Blu-Ray Player, VLC Player, etc. to play it on your computer. -
-
Yeah I'm using Leawoo but it doesn't have full blu-ray functionality. I do see where errors are coming up in my menus though. It must be related to the buttons. It doesn't matter which template I use, if I use custom buttons, it messes up.
-
-
It seems to be very picky. You would think that if a feature exists in a software, you would be able to use it.
-
-
I have run countless tests and I think I have narrowed it down to an "additive blend" transition that I was using to get into my title files from the main menu. I'll keep testing and may even try to burn one.
-
-
Unless you split a video, you would only be able to add the transition between videos (actually, you can add one at the beginning and end of the project).
How did we get from a problem with the audio file to a transition? The transition wouldn't affect the ability to add audio to the menu.
If there was a problem with the buttons, the Check Project would pick it up.-
-
-
It could be but he said "main menu" so I assumed that he was working in the editing screen.

Yeah I was mistaken. I thought that I could properly test a BDMV folder through Leawoo but apparently I didn't do it right. I thought I had it figured out so I burnt a disc and got the same error.
There are no errors in check project. I'm at a loss. How can I properly check a bluray after it is burned on my hard drive? Leawoo only allows me to play one file at a time.-
Hi Cody, In the Leawoo Bluray player, you can activate the "virtual controller" ... I had trouble getting it to work, but once I opened the BDMV folder and clicked the top of the Leawoo screen, I did eventually get the menu option to come up ...
Take a look here and see if you can get it to work ...

Go to-
C:\Users\"your user name"\AppData\Roaming\Nero\Nero 18\Nero Vision
Upload the neroburnserverlog.txt file to a site such as dropbox.com. Share it, create a link and then copy the link here. -

Hi Cody-
I don't see a date in that log file but, it appears that you created and saved a template in which the arrow is missing the thumbnail tag. I suggest not using that template for testing.
Would you upload the NeroVideolog file from that same location and provide a link?-

I had created a template for a project I'm doing and I wanted to see what the problem was with the menus. What do you mean the arrow is missing the thumbnail tag? How can I fix that? What did I do to remove it? That may be my problem.
I like the look of a text only label without the thumbnail so that's how I set up my menus. Is that what you mean? Please explain. Thanks. -
-
As far as I can tell, you wouldn't be able to see the arrow for the button.
I'd still like to see that other log. -
-
I created another burn with the same menu template.

I was finally able to get a reliable BD-RE disc to do some testing. I ran several trials.
1. All custom menu with NO MUSIC. Modified buttons, backgrounds, deleted template. It burnt just fine and the disc was readable.
2. Used the "Movie star" template, changed the background image and added music. MP3 file, WAV file, and the one that you sent me in multiple trials. All of them failed. -
-
It couldn't encode AV file 0001. Do you know what file that is? Would you upload the video file you're using?
If you use only the default Flower Meadow video instead of your video files, can you burn a successful project? -
-
It does not burn successfully if I add an audio track to the menu. I can customize the menus without music and it burns just fine.
-
-
Yes I have tried leaving the menu as is. It fails when I add the audio file.
-
-
I assume you're referring to a burn with only the Flower Meadow. Is that the case?
We've been around the barn on this one. Is it still that the disc won't open or is the problem different. -
-
I was able to get my projects to work finally. I was able to use the menu buttons to my liking and so I did not try to remove them. Thanks again for all your help.

I believe it was the navigation menus. I would delete those and this time I found one that I liked and used it. That's the only thing I did differently in my menus.
