I'm creating a BluRay image in Nero Video 2018. I have it set to Fit-To-Disc. Still, the nrg file ends up around 38GB, which will not fit on a 25GB BD-R. The bar at the bottom of the screen says the image will be 22GB. This worked originally, creating a 22GB image when the Recording Options were set to AUTOMATIC, which created a disc in MPEG-2. However, this disc would not play properly on an XBoxOne, which is a common problem with that device. I forced it to MPEG-4 to see if the XBoxOne would play it if recorded in that format. That's when the size ballooned, even though set to Fit-To-Disc and the capacity bar on the screen saying 22GB.

Hi Mike-
Phew, OSU beat the pants off the Bearcats.
Depending on the original format of the video, it is possible to see a boost in the size of the file when encoding to another format. Which screen are you in when you see the capacity bar at 22 GB?
I didn't try a bunch of things but I don't have Automatic in the quality settings of v2018. It is there for audio.

Did you try the "keep source quality?"
In the Application Settings, is SmartEncoding enabled?
What is the original resolution of your video? -

Mike,
This probably should be reported to Nero. I've noticed in the past that choosing MPEG-4 produces larger files than MPEG-2. For example:
So, when I chose MPEG-4 encoding, Nero used a bitrate that was about 30% higher than that used for MPEG-2. Very strange. Note that in my example the space estimate does not change when switching from "Automatic" (MPEG-2) to MPEG-4 encoding.
In your case, apparently the algorithm used to determine the "fit-to-disc" compression requirement is based upon the MPEG-2 bit rate?
I would think that the problem can be avoided by doing the "fit-to-disc" manually by choosing "Custom" quality in the Recoding Format Options and then using a bitrate consistent with the output space requirements.-
Hi Omega ... does turning off "SmartEncoding" make any difference? I had in mind that there could still be that old bug with "fit-to-disc" and "SmartEncoding"?

Lucky Phil,
I have no idea! Just saving the project and re-opening it changed the estimated space requirement. Maybe I'll do a quick test, but even if that affects the results, it's a problem for Nero. -

Omission
I forgot to mention that I am using Nero 2019 Platinum. -
