I’m frustrated

Error no. 1 in Nero Media Hub

Hi,
I can't play Blu-ray discs in my Nero Mudia Hub, which I bought in 2011 as a part of Nero Multimedia Suite Platinum HD 2010. When I try to do it, error no. 1 appears.

When I restart Nero Media Hub and try to play Blu-ray disc another error no. 0x88880009 appears...

I uninstalled program and installed again a few times, but it didn't help.
My operating system in Windows 7 Professional 64.
Please help me.

  • When I clicked on Update icon in the Nero ControlCenter, the message "Update service is not available" appeared.

So, I installed the Nero Update from the original DVD and clicked the 'Check for updates' button. After few seconds the message "No new updates available" appeared. So there are no new updates found. My Internet connection has been working the whole day.

But I also have Nero 8 OEM version installed on my computer, which I got for free from a shop when I bought an internal DVD recorder for my computer. I run the Nero ControlCenter in Nero 8 version and tried to check for updates. After few seconds the message "Nero can't connect to the Internet" appeared. It is strange, because my Internet connection has been working well - I have been listening to the Internet radio the whole day, I opened many web sites since this morning, the Skype status has been available the whole day. So?

I use both versions of Nero - 8 and 10, because Nero Multimedia Suite 10 Platinum HD can't burn DVD discs correctly - DVDs which I burn in version 10 can't be played in older DVD players (but can be played in new DVD players). So I use version 10 to burn Blu-ray discs, and version 8 to burn DVD discs...

  • You can't update v8 via the internet. It will simply take you to nero.com and ask you to update to v2017 since the update web page is no longer available for v8, v9 and earlier.

Go to nero.com, downloads, previous products downloads, Nero 10 versions. Download and install the Platinum installation file over your existing installation. Then check the version number for Burning Rom.

  • I downloaded the latest version of Nero 10 Platinum HD from nero.com site and tried to install it. The message "There is another version of the same product installed on your computer. Unistall it first." appeared.

So I uninstalled Nero 10 Platinum HD from my computer and installed the latest version no. 10.6.10600.4.100.

I ran the Nero Kwik Media and tried to play Blu-ray disc, but the same error message appeared: "Error no. 0x88880009. Please restart the Nero Kwik Media".
So I restarted this program and tried to play Blu-ray disc again. Unfortunately another error appeared no. 0x80400001.

  • When I think about it, that makes sense because the plug-ins are no longer available. Sorry to put you on the wild goose chase.

Is it possible for you to plug your blu-ray drive into a different SATA port? If so, would you try that?

An alternative that some frustrated Nero users have found to work is the free Leawo Blu-Ray player ...

  • I plugged my Blu-ray drive to a different SATA port and the same error no. 0x80400001 appeared. So, my mainboard is working well.

Before I wrote here with this problem for the first time, I had described my problem on Polish forum for filmmakers, where people help each other. One of them answered that he had had similar problem with his Nero Platinum 2014. He explained that specialists of Nero AG on this forum (so, like you) had sent him special two nvcuvenc.DLL system files for Windows via e-mail, and when he copied them to the operating system, problem was solved. This man gave me those files, but it didn't solve my problem. I probably need different DLL files from you for 2010 version.

Lucky Phil, thanks for your advice, but Leawo Blu-ray player can't play menu of discs correctly. I installed this program 2 weeks ago and made some tests. I paid for the Nero Platinum 2010 HD to use this program, but not to waste time on finding other players.

But I opened Kwik Media folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Nero\KM and ran KwikMedia.exe as administrator.

When I right clicked on the opening screen nothing happend. So, I clicked 'About Nero' from the drop-down menu on the right top corner of the window, and noticed that there was no information about version.

  • Both of my Platinum numbers begin with 9X13. I know the 1x13 is a valid serial number but I don't know what it's for. Is this a boxed version?

Sorry, I can't read your language in the screenshot.

I also no longer have Kwik Media because it was overwritten by Nero MediaHome when I installed subsequent versions of Nero. I do have it on a secondary hard drive on my other system.

The Blu-ray player for v10 is a plug-in which you had to purchase. Did you purchase it and do you have the serial number for it?

  • My original serial number 1X13.... is for the whole Nero Multimedia Suite 10 Platinum HD. It is boxed version.

As I know the Nero MediaHub and Kwik Media should play Blu-ray disks without purchasing other plug-ins. When I bought this product from a shop in 2011 the seller assured me about that. The following screen also confirms that - in the middle there is a big button to click with the Blu-ray disc caption. After clicking on it the Blu-ray disc should be played.

I should explain you something else. When I installed my Nero 10 Platinum HD about two weeks ago, during the first running of the Nero MediaHub there was a message "program need to take a patent from the Internet". I agreed, but in that time my Internet connection was turned off (I didn't noticed that at once). Then when I tried to run a Blu-ray disc the error no. 1 appeared. So maybe there is a problem with that patent (for Blu-ray player), which wasn't taken from the Internet. But it is strange, because I was reinstalling the whole Nero 10 Platinum a few times, and recently I even installed the latest version of the Nero 10 Platinum from the file which I dowloaded from the Nero web site. And the message about that patent appeared only after the first installation.

    • Thought I'd mention I was running Kwik Media on my secondary hard drive a little earlier and the version number shown started with 1.6. Not sure whats up with your version since you have updated v10.

Thanks for posting the additional information about what you're seeing in your next to last post. I probably should have thought of that before.

  • Today morning they wanted me to send them my serial number, and I did it.
I received the following answer from the Nero patent activation:

"We have verified your serial, and is still valid.
The issue might either be an error of the program, or compatibility with the OS (if you have Windows 10, Blu-Ray will no longer work).
Unfortunately Nero 10 is no longer a supported product, so either way we are unable to provide any assistance."

  • I don't think you have Platinum. You don't have all the additional templates and themes that are provided for Nero Vision and Kwik Media in Platinum. Open the Nero ControlCenter and look in Serial Numbers. Do you have the Nero Kwik-blu-ray listed, Nero Creative Collection Pack 1, Nero Kwik DVD, or Nero Kwik Move-it?

What really bothers me is that Recode 10 isn't shown. Is it available in StartSmart?

  • After I signed out tonight, I realized that what I said didn't come out the way I intended. What I should have said is that the Platinum features aren't released.

Couple of other things to do:

    1. Make sure your serial number is 39 characters, including hyphens, and that there are only zeroes (no "O"s).

    2. Go to Control Panel, Programs and Features. Make sure everything I show in my screenshot below is installed-

  • I have the Nero 10 Multimedia Suite Platinum HD, but I haven't installed all items from the original DVD. These are two screenshots from the installation program, where you can see what is installed and what not.

My serial number is 39 characters and is valid - it is the same number as printed inside the DVD cover of this product. This is the screenshot from the Nero ControlCenter, where you can see the Nero Kwik Blu-ray, Nero Kwik Move it, Nero Creative CollectionPack 1, Nero Kwik DVD, Nero Kwik Play.

I also took photos of my original DVD cover, where you can find the text "Plays Blu-ray disc".

This is the screenshot from the Control Panel/Programs and Features, which contains all Nero items on my computer:

  • It looks like Platinum is enabled, based on the ControlCenter screenshot.

Open Control Panel, Programs and Features. Click on Nero Multimedia Suite 10 and select Change. Click on Modify. In the Installation Settings, click on the down arrow next to Burn Rights and select This feature and all subfeatures..................will be available. Complete the installation. Reboot your system. The burn rights should be set to everyone by default.

Try playing your blu-ray disc. If it doesn't work, try a different disc. If that doesn't work, try playing a DVD.

  • I did as you said and then tried to play a few original films on Blu-ray discs:
"Django", "Bogowie (eng. Gods)", "La La Land", "The Fugitive", "Finding Nemo", "Fifty Shades of Grey", "Gravity". Unfortunately the same error appeared.

But there were no problems to play the following original films on Blu-ray discs in my Nero Kwik Media:
"AVATAR", "WALL-E", "Mamma Mia!", "Pulp Fiction", "Braveheart", "The Island".

All original films on DVD discs which I tried to play in the Nero Kwik Media were played correctly.

There were also no problems to play the Blu-ray disc created by me in 2011 with my family films. I burnt this disc then using Nero 10 Platinum.

  • Well, we're making progress. Thanks for doing what I asked.

I think there's a AACS issue. Are you connected to the internet when you try to play those first five discs?

  • There is a firmware update for your drive. If it is an "LG" drive, you can get it here-

    http://www.lg.com/us/support-product/...

You might want to change the country for that page to yours. Click on Reference for instructions on how to update the firmware.

Hopefully, that will update the AACS for the drive so that you can play newer discs. However, the ever-changing AACS is one reason Nero discontinued the Nero Blu-ray player.

  • Well, that piece of firmware was from 2014 and the AACS keys keep changing. It was worth a try. I don't know how to update them except to try something like this-

    http://www.labdv.com/aacs/updater.php

You would use that at your own risk.

We've been suggesting the free Leawo Blu-ray player for those Nero folks who don't have the Nero Blu-ray player (starting with v2016).

As said, I think that part of the reason that Nero abandoned the Nero Blu-ray player is because of the continuous changes in the AACS keys.

  • I use the Blu-ray player in my SONY Home Theatre to watch original long lenght films from Hollywood on TV. The Nero Kwik Media is needed for me to watch films from weddings which I create in HD quality. It has been my job for 6 years ago, but during that time I was producing the wedding movies in SD quality. Now, I am going to create the wedding films also in HD. But as I checked 2 days ago, the Nero Kwik Media can play the Blu-ray disc created by me in 2011, which contains my family movies. In the same way I will be creating BD discs from weddings, so probably they will be played in the Nero Kwik Media.
I don't want to update the firmware of my Blu-ray drive using www.labdv.com site, because it is risky.

Thank you for your help Wither 1.
