FED UP WITH NERO 12 Platinum

Here's my bloody complaint. I spent 80$ on Nero 12 Platinum and this program has been nothing but headaches since I loaded it. All I want to do is to load my files and make movies according to what the bullshit ad copy says this thing can do. only ONE PROJECT has worked. I follow the same procedures, load from the same camera, and everything is out of SYNC picture and sound. Okay, you got my money, so I can't get that back, but I'm going go to youtube and spread the word about the complete failure of this product to deliver what it claims to .

  • The best I can tell is that you didn't post the details of your problem anywhere else in the forum and you give no indication that you approached tech support about your problem. As a result, I don't know why you would tell everybody about the complete failure of your problem.

Would you like to try to resolve it here?

  • Allright, here goes, from the beginning of the process:

Camera used to record the events: Canon ZR900 Mini DV Camera (cassettes)

Software program used: Nero 12 Platinum.

What's happening: When I capture the material from the camera to my computer, the raw footage is in sync. If I try to use any, and I mean ANY of the options to help clean up the image or audio, I lose sync on the project before I burn it to disc. So, I figured, let's ignore all of the options that Nero has, just dump the raw footage on disc, no credits, no editing, in other words, a straight copying from source to disc. This worked once. once only. So, you'll excuse me for being upset, that, after a month of trying, and consulting online help that wasn't all that helpful..this program won't even give me the BASICS of what I want it to do.

  • We'll start simple.

How did you capture the video to your hard drive?

What did you play it in after you captured it? Nero MediaHome?

  • If you're asking how the data was transfered, it was done through The DV port on the camera, using a firewire cable to plug into my firewire card installed in my computer. I have close to 100 Gig free memory space, and although my computer is not brand spanking new, it is still a dual core processor which had no problems running my Windows Media Maker. I burned the finalized project onto disc, and checked them in not only my Sony Blu-Ray/DVD player, but my VLC player I have loaded into my computer. As I stated before, only one project out of all of the ones I attempted have failed. Now, I will double check the discs I burned previously, but out of sync is out of sync. These are musical performances, and even if its a 16th note out, its out. So, If you have any suggestions, please, I'm all ears.

  • What I wanted to know is what is the software you used to capture the video from your camera? Did you use Nero Video?

I'm going to bed. See you in the moning.

  • I used the 'Capture Video' option that was on the Nero 12 software. When you open the program, a menu pops up as to what options you wish to choose. From there, I chose ' Capture From Video Camera' option. I get a warning on the screen to shut down as many background windows as possible, which I do. when I hit the red ' record' button on the program screen, it syncs and activates my camera and I get what its downloading on my computer screen.

  • Which format have you used in capturing, AVI or MPG (MPEG_2) ?
Did you try with both ?

The reason why I ask is, I have Nero 12.5 Platinum (actaully updated) on a Windows 7 system (laptop, 2.2 GHz dualcore, 4 GB RAM) but no firewire connection at this laptop. But I use NeroVideo there for creating and editing DVD-Video with .mpg files which were captured on external HDD on another laptop (1.6 GHz dualcore, 1 GB RAM) with NeroVison of 8 and 10. I had never out-of-sync problems in 12.5, also not with large video files, which are mostly of about 1 h duration (tape length).

Did you update 12 to the last actual status which is 12.5 ?

Btw, what is your OS and what is your target medium option (I assume DVD-Video) ?

  • yesterday, I waded through the 80+ page manual for his camera which records on miniDVD.

It sounds like he used native capturing but I'm not sure.

  • Yes, I used the Native Capturing option, as it was the default that came up on the system.

  • Yes, I do have Nero 12 Platinum, which I got a month ago. You're telling me I have to spend another 80-120.00 to get the first program working? Or is this a downloadable patch?

    • hg-dude, you seem to be the expert regarding Nero Picture/Video procedure. But does not the USER require to register to use 3rd part packages, which I blieve may include CODECS. thus any other formats are possible substitted by Nero prefoerred items.
    • Free add-ons don't need registration. They are also running standalone (without installation of a suite. There is only NWE which supports the standard audio codecs.

  • Hi all those experts (?).
Browsing this subject I have just one this to say.Take your heads out of the sand.

Wither 1, I believe tsubjectjec was open b saying that the camera was connected directly to the PC and IMPORT the files into Nero. There was no comment aboutmini-DVDDVD, the storage was a cassette.
We now come to the statement about DVD-Video made by another user. This seems like a subject raised by me elsewhere.
Since I raised this point about obtaining video from a camera I have looked into my situation. There appears to be some confusion ove DVD-VIDEO and DVD Video.
In my case I believe that when I generated a miniDVD on the camera I used the EDITING mode to generate thew miniDVD. The foramt for this DVD VIDEO is different to that of DVD-VIDEO. The disc I generated was finalised on the camera and was playable on other players as a VIDEO.
It would seem that NERO does not recognise the format that is used to generate the miniDVD. This miniDVD, although it functioned satisfactory as a VIDEO disc actually had a problem outside the DATA area, BAD SPOTS and I was not able to copy it to a stanardr DVD disc
The only way I could recover the video information was to import the information into NERO Video/Vision and this caused problems in so far that there were 10 or 12 individual video shots. This when imported to Nero developed into about 15 individual video images.
So im my opinion Nero, whatever vision, a USER has causes frustration to the USER and whatever the USER does subsequently causes problems on their PC.

He said he captured the video from his camera using the Capture feature of Nero Video.

  • I’m stiil sick
OK so he CAPTURED the video. I believe this is again some confusion over the definition of his action.
Which raises the question, what is the difference between 'IMPORTING' the video or playing the video from his camera and recording (CAPTURING) it in Nero or even 'COPYING' the video from his camera storage. ( I note that hg-dude has commented on this fact)

  • Jim- you don't need to buy anything to update. Just go to the Nero ControlCenter and run the check for updates.

You can only Import AVCHD from a Camera. You can use the Capture function for this format and all other formats to capture to a hard drive.

For some cameras, the only way to transfer the video to the hard drive is to use the provided software.

We're getting away from trying to resolve his problem.
