file import is very slow

Upgrade from Nero 12. Using Nero Video and used to be able to import files very quickly. Not with Nero 14, the import function does appear to be working at all!

  • The very first time you try to import a file, it might take a while because I think it will analyze all the media files in a particular folder.

When you do an import, there should be a bar right next to the Import tab with a green light moving forwards and backwards continuously.

  • I'm running on Vista. I found that I can't import certain mpeg-4 files. The problem files can be opened in Nero MediaHome and Recode.

Takes a very long time to import video. In version 12, no issues and video imports very quickly. It isn't analyzing anything else in the folders and the interface is almost exactly the same between these versions. Nothing has really changed but the new version sure doesn't work. I've gone back to version 12. This new one is not functional.

  • I tried all kinds of different formats and the files were analyzed quickly. I let the problem ones go for 2 hours and it never finished the analysis. One thing that I hadn't done was update the Nero Launcher. Doing that helped with the other file formats but didn't solve the isolated .mp4 import problem. When I get time (working this forum and the other forum is taking a lot of time), I may address this to tech support.

  • Seriously, this sort of buggy new release issue always seems to happen. A new version is not tested adequately, and the poor old end users wind up being pseudo BETA testers. I would urge all users to hold off upgrading to the new version until Nero gets its act together.

BTW I'm sick of having to pay quite hefty upgrade prices every couple of years for software that introduces more bugs. Try substantially lowering your upgrade prices Nero.

    That's my two cents worth!

  • Nero was able to reproduce this problem with certain file formats.
Handling of video files will be improved in the next online update for Nero Video.
Importing of video files should be much improved by then.

  • I’m Frustrated
As of today 3/23/2014 Nero2014 NeroVideo does not import my MP4 files. Nor will it create MP4 videos. But, it imports and completes MPG projects. Nero2014 then can convert them to MP4. What is the ETA of the promised fix?
    Thank You.

  • I’m frustrated.
I now have had the same problem MP4 with Nero 12. The import in progress ran 8 hours without results. It is on a HP HDX 18t, 4 GB ram, 2 GB video, Quad processor, Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit system. All video is local. All maintenance is up to date. I will test with other vendors products next. Oh yeah, this was not a problem with either a few months ago with the same software and file types.

  • There have been numerous updates since this thread was started so, if your copy is up to date as indicated by running the check for updates from the Nero ControlCenter, there shouldn't a problem in regards to the original issue.

I still had the problem with importing one .mp4 file which worked properly before. There is no indication in MediaInfo that there's something amiss. Today, I found I could import it into Recode so I recoded it to mpeg-4. It now works in Nero Video.

My copies of Nero Platinum12 and Nero platinum 2014 are both up to date as indicated by running the check for updates from the Nero Control Center.
I do not know the age of the problem thread that I joined other than its previous entry was 6 months old without a problem resolution follow up date stated as should be Standard Operating Procedures. My MP4 play fine with other vendors products. Are you suggesting that Nero Re-coder is the solution rather than a specific Nero fix that you do not know the name of?
    Sincerely.

Even though we request it, people don't come back and tell us how or if their problem was resolved by tech support. That just makes more work for tech support and unnecessary delays for the people who need a resolution.

I just saw your post in that thread you referenced.

Yes, it was my intention for you to try Recode. I should have added that to my post. There is a difference between playing and being able to import files since no analysis is performed during playback. Do you files play in Nero MediaHome?

  • Wither, you put me on the right path to a resolution!

My anticipation of problem resolutions cross-referenced to maintenance were from my experiences in supported many Verizon internal software and network trouble desk and change management systems for all platforms. I found similar policy procedures practiced by interfacing IBM, BMC and Symantec systems. That helped give us 99.98% availability of products critical features.

Per your advice, I found each of my project source file clips were only partially readable by Nero Media Home, Windows Media Player, AVS Media Player, Quick Time or VLC media player. However, the clips still played in full on my source Android phone.

I had copied the files via USB on the PC directly to my 1 GB networked Western Digital MyBookLIve 2 TB (50% utilized) drive. I had first tried Nero with them. Afterwards I copied them down to my secondary internal drive for follow up testing. Finally, I copied the same three files directly via USB from the phone to my secondary internal drive. That was the solution!!! The properties of all the file versions display the same. Then Nero 2014 Video Editor using the MP4 files let me create this for YoutTube posted at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYPoAF...

Thank You very much for your prompt and great support!!!
    Sincerely,
    Bruce

  • That's a nice way for me to come into the forum this morning. Thanks and you're welcome.

I don't like snakes (sounds like the song by Jim Stafford) but garter snakes are harmless.

    Enjoy!
