HD audio feature and Nero Recode
I receive "The following feature is not available in your product": HD audio while using Nero Recode. However, I do own the Nero 2016 Platinum version. What is wrong?
-
-
-
Same here. Looks like the problem came up after I updated the "Nero Core Components" recently. Processing content with HD audio was working without problems prior to that. I have filed a support request with Nero. Let's see...
-
Hi Jens, I will do the same today. Hope we get quick a solution Ekki
-
-
the problem is not the core update its on nero license server each component of nero has to check in to see. if it has permission to work and what functions are limited a clean reinstall without core updates installed. hd audio stopped working 3 28 2016 r. disconnect internet recode and nero video wont work a. popup check Internet connection required allow access nero server disables hd audio in 2016 ver, and the recode in 2015 ver no longer shows the hd audio track in audio selection

Sample file?
I've created a HD_AAC file using Nero 2016 Recode [3 MB]. Before installing the latest Core Components update, I'd be interested in knowing if this is one of the file types that users are having difficulties playing/importing?
Please give it a try. -

Been waiting for a fix since Monday? Tried uninstalling and everything, but you know how their software protection borrows into your OS like an Alabama tick...
Tried it Omega, says it's unsupported...- view 7 more comments

Wither 1,
It is not clear exactly what the problem is? No one has provided a problem file for testing. Do you have one? -
-
I don't have one. Best I can tell It's a software issue caused by that damned mysterious update (which I haven't gotten in Win 7). Recode supports HE-AAC.
-
-
-
-
The only thing I can recommend is to send an e-mail to tech support via the contact form at nero.com, support, contact. Seems to be a problem for a number of people.
-
-
I too also have this problem (HD Audio not supported with my version of Nero, even though my version of Nero is 2016 Platinum) when I try to play or edit MKV files with DTS sound. I have contacted Support and they had me create a NeroSupport.cab file which I did and sent back but I haven't heard anything yet. I'm hoping that they can provide a fix for this because editing video files was a big reason for me buying Nero!

We have dropped HD-Audio playback support.
We are very sorry for the inconvenience you have experienced; however it is unfortunately not possible for us to roll back the change.
Thank you very much for your understanding- view 3 more comments

Dropped ? When it has been paid ????
Now I know why I will choose another program next year. Simply not professional -

I will never buy a Nero product again. Rip-off.

Nero (Official Rep), not Wither 1,
Please, exactly what sort of HD audio support has been discontinued? -
-
First, Blu-Ray player removed ... then the online backup area removed (soon) ... now removal of HD Audio support? What is going on? Is Nero in its death throes? :|

NOOOOO WAY THAT'S REAL!!!
If we can't recode or play back HD Audio which 80% of all Blu-Rays use, than Nero does't support Blu-ray? NOOOO WAY!!!
If that post is real, anyone have a substitute software I can call home?- view 2 more comments

For Mister_M: So few things using it ? Then I'm surprised not to be able to recode many of my own BR...
-
-
Opinion,
Contrary to what is said here and in so many other places, Nero has not discontinued support of "HD-Audio". Nero has discontinued support of DTS audio, HD or otherwise, because of a legal dispute. I and others have asked for a clear explanation repeatedly to no avail. -

I knew this was coming in some form but didn't know if it applied to existing installations. I had questioned it but now we have the answer.- view 2 more comments

I'm just reaching the point of dismay that Nero thinks it can remove things without a reasonable period of warning, and still has advertising that features the things they have just removed. Someone mentioned a "Class Action" the other day which I kind of laughed off ... but really? This is getting beyond the pale.
I'm getting really annoyed with this type of behavior by Nero.
In fact, I'm so annoyed, I think I might remove myself from the forum.
I'm going to think about it ... and if I do, then I'm sorry that you and a hand full of people will be the only ones left keeping this forum going ...
:( -
-
I agree it would be helpful if there was some explanation for the action, even if it's only a consulation. However, as a volunteer, I try to simply help people with things I can help them with. What's interesting is that I haven't seen the update in my Win 7 installation of v2016 that's causing this problem. I've run the check for updates a couple of times the last few days but there are none.
I'd hate to lose you. So many people have come and gone over the years and you've been especially very helpful to people. I keep trying to reduce my time in the forum but, as you can see, I haven't been very successful. I'm going to have my hands full readying my new house for move-in and getting this one ready for move-out. I don't hire people to do things that I can do myself. -

It's happening again!
Prior to the Nero 2016 release, changes were made to the trial Nero 2015 version without corresponding updates being issued to regular users. This resulted in new users of Nero Video having a higher numbered version than regular users.
Well, they're at it again. As of last night, my Nero 2016 Platinum was totally up-to-date according to Control Center. I had installed the latest Core Components update. I was able to import and recode the sample file above (with an SLS audio stream) using Recode.
Because version number confusion involving Nero Video 2016 arose in another topic, I installed the Nero 2016 trial today. As a result, my Nero Video version changed from 17.0.14000 to 17.0.17000! And, as a result, I now get an error when trying to recode the sample file above:
Edit: I forgot to mention that Nero Recode adds an SLS stream when recoding to HD-AAC. I have no idea where it gets the 24-bit audio information to assemble that stream. -
-
The biggest question is why?
I can only guess it has something to do with royalties with DTS?
It's a sad day cause I've been using Nero since the late 90's and this behavior is not isolated. I'm seeing this in many high tech company's currently and it's not a good sign.
I guess I better get to know handbrake for my encoding needs... -
-
I also have the same problem after installing the latest core components update. Recode was working perfectly until the update. Also contacted customer support.
-
It seems that Nero have done this deliberately ... and have chosen to make the change "under the radar" by not documenting the fact that the core components update removes support for HD audio.
I'm pissed off with them. -

Well I was able to get my recode 2014 to work with hardware acceleration via some nvidia files that go into the system32 and wow64 folders. So I'm back in business, but I did pay for 2016, and I not getting what I paid for and that my friend isn't right! How in heck are you going to do 4K? You better hope there's more than a HD stream, and you better pray for a non HD 5.1 second stream!
A lot of my Blu-rays only have an HD, and a 2 Channel Stereo stream!-
Most blu-rays that people have are copy protected and have HD audio. If you strip the protection, then you would be able to do what you like with them. I guessing that the HD removal is to prevent that. Of course, if you have an older version of Nero than 2016, it shouldn't be a problem. I don't know if updates to Nero MediaHome, which is common to v10 and later, would be used to change that.
-
-
Perhaps, but in some countries, it is just legal to copy things if it is for your own usage...

Worst company in the world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This WAS the best software, but that was a good 5 years ago. I am now on the hunt for a replacement and am de-installing their trash from my computer!
-
-
By the way, I do believe we should file a law suit over the false advertising they currently have on their website that very clearly states that Nero 2016 Platinum supports HD. They are taking our money and NOT delivering what they are selling. Isn't that fraudulent advertising?

Before I go;
If I sold you a car and 3 months later called you and told you I had an upgraded engine that I would like to install in it for free. I bet you'd let me. If after I installed the engine I then removed 2 of your wheels and left, what would you do?? You'd probably call the police and file a report for theft, right?
For those that are going to read the software license that says we dont actually own the software, lets try this example;
I lease you a car, per the agreement you pay upfront the entire lease value because I say I will "maintain" it for free if you do that. 3 months later you bring it in for maintenance and when I'm done you have a spiffy new engine upgrade as well as a 2 wheels missing. What would you do? You'd still call the police right?
How is this any different than what NERO is doing to its Windows 10 customers right now??? -
-
So you have decided to disable DVD recoding that I have payed for. Pleaes give me my mony back - now so I can by a seruous product for DVD redoding. Thansk for wasting my time and mony.
-
-
I don't know if Nero will provide a refund as a result of this change. Nothing hurt by asking.

I've been buying upgrade since version 8 up to and including PLATINUM 2016. What a joke that name is.
Steadily removing paid for features - BD playback was an extra "platinum" cost for example.
Latest upgrade cost £40 - what a joke. Am appalled and will be seeking reimbursement.- view 2 more comments

Maybe it's a legal thing:
Court Name: U.S. Civil Court Records for the Central District of California
Case Number: 2:14-cv-09791
Party Name: DTS, Inc. et al v. Nero AG et al
Filing Type: Civil [Mediation Report (ADR-3) Completely Settled]
Date Published: March 07, 2016

Basically reinforces what I've been saying. I wonder who et. al. are.

I will recommend WonderShare and Magix. They are not perfect, but at least they do not remove features when make new releases. And then I you do not have to pay ransom to the hungry Nero...

If the features have been removed due to German law, it would not re-appear in the newest product. Sorry, but I only can see one reason for this: More Money.
-
-
I'm not privy to what goes on at Nero. From what I read, the people who want their media protected are tightening the noose everywhere. It's interesting that they haven't updated the older versions to remove this capability.

I've uninstalled 2016 Platimum completely, done a registry clean and then reinstalled a fresh copy (Nero 2016 Platinum 17.0.02000) having first set in install preferences NOT to allow auto updates.
Working fine again with HD audio, but suffice to say this is the last version of the product I will ever purchase.- view 3 more comments

Wither 1,
You're welcome? Perhaps, you could follow up by adding to your comments above to Michael: "You should write a letter to DTS Inc. which forced this issue via a lawsuit against Nero, et. al. Not sure who et. al. are. Cyberlink, Roxio, Adobe, etc. ? ". And, correct the record in other of your similar posts.
The interesting thing to me is Nero's silence while you mislead users on this and the Blu-ray issue, etc.
Incidentally, are your as connected with Nero's current CEO as you were with the last one? -
-
Don't see why we as customers of Nero should be writing to anyone other than Nero. We bought products based on an advertised feature set, and rather than removing these features from FUTURE versions of the product in an open and honest manner, they have done this to current paid for versions without any warning or explanation, and this is what I find unacceptable.

I agree with the above posts, I too have been very happy with Nero for many years. But to advertise that your product can do HD audio if you upgrade to 2016 platinum, only to find you have been conned out of £30 because it does not.
Nero must be making a killing in ripping its customers off. I for one will now look for another software to burn my disc's
NERO YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF WHAT YOU ARE DOING IT IS THEFT, BET YOU WOULD SUE ANYONE WHO COPIED YOUR SOFTWARE. -
-
Wow, I wished I had found this thread a few days ago. I just got suckered into 2017 upgrade. I am so done with this software. Nero is a very anti consumer company who not only rips it's customers off, it treats them as if they were pirates. I had some trouble with them a few years back. I was having trouble with random BSOD after a fresh install of Windows 7. Several reinstalls of Windows and most of my software at the time resulted in Nero invalidating my license key. Got nowhere with email, dug up a phone number and called them. A rude and snotty sale rep was less than happy to help, calling me pirate straight up. Took a threat of action by my state's Attorney General to get this individual to simply reinstate me. After that I vowed never to buy this software again only to use pirated copies since that's what they thought of me. It was only until 2012 that their protection kicked in and offered a platinum edition for $29.
I am moving over to CloneBD from Elaborate Bytes. It's slower than recode but it gets the job done. I'll uninstall nero completely and reinstall 2016 with no updates, just to keep burning ROM.
BTW, I have yet to see an end user license agreement that does not have a clause that reserves the right to make changes without notice.
This is THE last time I give Nero money. As far as I'm Concerned they now share the same boat with Norton and McAfee, Useless, overpriced BLOATWARE.
So long Nero, Kiss my #$! -
-
I suspect Nero also alters the OS and registry of those who download its software so that if we attempt to download alternatives to Nero on our browsers, we find that those sites are blocked as malware. If so, that is a textbook anti-trust violation.
-
I've got 7 versions of Nero installed on two separate computers and have never experienced anything like what you're referring to. Is there something you've tried to download while Nero was installed that resulted in some program proclaiming it as malware? There are two pieces of software used by Nero which were/are identified as malware by malwarebytes but it seems that, coincidentally, there was real malware with the same name.

Hi Nero have admitted they have removed the feature, see the following link.
