HDR-10 and Dolby Vision

Does Nero support HDR-10 and/or Dolby Vision? If not, when will it?

  • Chad-

I didn't respond earlier because I can't tell you when, or if, they will support those formats. Dolby Vision is a proprietary format and Nero would have to charge more for its products to support it. Since HDR-10 is open source and there's no distinct advantage over it from Dolby Vision, it would seem possible for Nero to incorporate it. I don't know what, if any, problems would be presented to the average user, in regards to encoding the super dynamic range, with respect to system requirements. For instance, I think to export to 4k in Nero, one must have a discrete graphics card.

Up front, I will say that if you have video either format that has HD audio such as DTS, you won't be able to ever use it in Nero (v2016, first update, and later), if what Nero employees has told us about it applies forever. Nero lost a lawsuit to DTS, Inc. back in 2014 which caused this situation.

Nero supports decoding HEVC which has some of the HDR-10 characteristics. As mentioned, Nero also allows one to "export" a file to file in 4K Ultra, which also has some of the same characteristics. However, one can't burn a disc in 4k Ultra using Nero because there's simply no blu-ray discs available to the general public yet which support 4k and there's few players that can play such a disc.

If you have a Nero version which tech support still supports, you could go here-

    and submit the contact form.

If not, you might go here and submit the contact form-

If you do either, please let me know the results.

  • Hi Chad, HDR is on our radar but won't come anytime soon. Maybe you can share your use case here, so we can gain a good understanding about it and consider it when implementing support?
