  • Hi there.
Were you expecting some users to perform some unpaid "production testing" before the official release?

I'd be very reluctant to do that.

  • Hi Lucky Phil. I work at Nero.

No, the intention was not to have users test a pre-release version.
With our new product, we simply decided to give existing Nero users the chance to download and use Nero TuneItUp before we inform others.

Hope you give it a try and share your experience.

  • Hi Chuck,
Thanks for your reply, I will give it a try and provide some feedback.

I think my first comment was a little harsh.

I do appreciate that the Nero staff who contribute to this forum really do try their best to help people out.

Thanks again to you, GeraldG and the others.

  • It is not possible to test the new software correctly, because the PRO functions are not enabled. You can not see the details of what the program is really capable of.

A solution would be a new version with a 14 day trial serial, like other Nero products.

  • The current implementation is to offer a set of functions for free (for ever) and to show what the pro functions have found. To solve these issues you have to upgrade to Nero TuneItUp PRO. While we have no trial of PRO, we do have a 30-day money back guarantee. Within Nero TuneItUp Free there is a "more info" link which takes you to a page explaining the PRO features in more detail.

  • First reactions to the Free version ...

    The installation was straight-forward.

I would prefer to be able to change the system temperature display to Celsius.
    - Seems to be only available in Fahrenheit?

The display could make some people nervous, because it looks like the tool is performing actions during the check, when in fact it is only searching for issues and compiling a list. Although the top of the display does say "Checking" the individual measures seem to say they are actually removing things.

I think the button to check the details about what will happen when the user clicks on "Delete" or "Remove" is not prominent enough?

Seems too easy to click on the "Delete" or "Remove" buttons before checking the details.

The registry cleanup "Details" are not very detailed.

(Compare with Ccleaner for example, which gives quite a detailed listing of what each registry item will be deleted.)

The list of items to be removed seems a little more "aggressive" than Ccleaner would remove.

This *might* be a good thing, but makes me a little nervous, as I have come to trust Ccleaner over the years, and find that it takes a balanced approach and has never caused me grief when letting it do a cleanup.

Also, Ccleaner allows the option of creating an "undo" registry file ...

    Does Nero Tune-it-up do that?

Note, I'm not electing to let it perform the recommend cleanup tasks - yet.

I might become brave later on and give it a try.

Clicking on "System Restore" brought up the Windows System Restore function, from which to select a restore point ... which is fine ... but I was so used to using Ccleaner, that I was expecting to see a list of restore points from which to select old ones I might wish to delete. (In Ccleaner the latest one is always grayed out so you can't delete it by mistake.)

Sorry to compare so much to Ccleaner, but that is the only tool I am used to using :)

I think I would like to be able to configure some options that would limit the areas to be checked first, rather than to have to unselect items from the details list in each category after the checking has been done.

Overall, first impressions look OK, but I'm still a little nervous about letting it do its thing.

  • BTW ...

The installation added two tasks to the Windows Schedule ...

If these are "pop-up" advertisements like "Nero Info" ... that would be quite annoying.

  • Had a bit of a play around with the Pro settings (Thanks GeraldG) ...

I like it that there is an "Ignore setting" in certain areas, but I would like to set "Ignore" in more categories.

The drivers check advised I needed an updated driver for the Intel Graphics display, however, when I checked using the Intel Driver checker itself, it advised not to use the "generic" driver - but to stick with the ASUS customised driver.

I'm not sure about applying the "Speed up the Internet" settings, so I did not apply those.

The tool seemed to have a problem disabling one of my startup tasks that it recommended to get rid of, but on a second scan and try, it worked.

Once again, I prefer the Ccleaner option of being able to "disable" a startup task instead of deleting it completely (it allows you to delete it completely too if you elect to do that.)

This tool just deletes the startup task completely, so it might be an issue if you wanted to remember which task/s you wanted disabled.

Seems to be a useful tool overall.

I'll see if anything crops up as I go along.

  • So far so good ... however, I decided to delete the Scheduled tasks because I dislike having this tool running in the background and prompting me to do things from time to time.

I much prefer to run the tool only when I feel like it.

(Perhaps there could be a simpler method to select to have it not run at startup or scheduled times?)

i.e. An option to remove it from starting up on Windows boot from the task bar?
(Also to remove it from the task bar when electing to disable it from startup.)

Although there is the "exit" option from the task bar already.

    • Fahrenheit issue will be resolved in tomorrow`s update along with several new features, some Windows 10 specific.
    • I HATE utilities which take over. That is the reason I stopped using Norton Utilities. . I have also discovered that SO-CALLED driver updates are useless or DAMAGING. I bought the PRO version but may uninstall it.

  • Hi, is it safe to let the program make changes in the windows registry? Some people have warned me against it, saying some programs can destabilize a PC when changing the registry.

  • Up from version 2.4.4.xx, many points raised in this thread have been addressed.
The version is available for free download on:
    http://www.nero.com/enu/downloads/

There is a new "configure" menu. In this menu you can control whether you want the performance monitor to run in the background and whether you want the app to start scanning everytime you launch it.

Per default, the app does not start scanning your system but lets you browse through the various performance and tuning tools available.

A click on "configure" opens up the following new dialog

The new report function, gives immediate feedback as to what has been improved and what the benefit is.

When you run automatic optimization tasks, you get a combined report when all the tasks have been completed:

A detailed report is also available when you click on "Open report...":

When the performance monitor (in the system tray) reports that new issues have been found, you can now click on "Display..." to see what would actually be done to fix the issues, instead of just being offered the option to "Resove now"

  • I’m frustrated
I have recently activated the Nero TuneIt Up from the free version after my Auslogic driver updater subscription expired. But the Nero driver updater does not seem to be picking up outdated drivers compared to the Auslogic driver check that shows 13 drivers outdated. I'm not that satisfied that Nero is working properly. It says that all drivers are up to date. They can't both be right. I have been using Auslogic for 2 years and found it too expensive to re-subscribe, that is why I went with Nero but it seems to me to be money down the pan. I am aware of the trick of false positives to get you to buy but I don't think that it applies in this case

  • Leonard, thanks for the feedback. It could be that some drivers are simply not in the database (and some might be, as you point out, "false positives". Could you maybe post the outdated drivers detected and I ́ll check with the developers if they are missing in the database?

  • I haven't a clue what you are talking about. All I want is the Nero driver updater to work. It's Nero's problem to sort it out. I'm not a computer geek nor do I want to be one. I just want a product to work first time everytime or I will go elsewhere and kick Nero to the kerb. I don't want to get into any debate on the why's and wherefores. If this is not the right place to get the technical help from Nero then I have been misled.
