HOORAY FOR NERO 6 OEM

WITH THE EXCEPTION OF BLU RAY SUPPORT IT DID EVERYTHING THAT 2014 PLATINUM DOES EXCEPT BETTER. I USED IT FROM 98 UNTIL LAST YEAR, I RAN IT ON WIN 98 AND XP, ON EVERYTHING FROM AN AMD750 WITH 64Mb GRAPHICS TO AMD BLACK QUAD CORE WITH 1Gb GRAPHICS, IT NEVER FAILED. IT COST ME ONLY £6 AS I BOUGHT IT WITH A DVD WRITER AND IS STILL THE ONLY VERSION OF NERO I'D RECOMMEND. TRY RUNNING IT IN COMPATIBILITY MODE ON WINDOWS 7 X86 AND YOU'LL SEE WHAT I MEAN.

  • I already responded to the major concern that you have with v14 in your other thread.

Since v6 is no longer available for purchase, your suggestion doesn't help anyone. In addition, OEM versions vary considerably in their capabilities so what works for you might not work in another copy. This is not intended to be a slight.

  • I agree 100000% I found all the later versions to be frank hope less and the support also not up to the standards that existed in those days I have been using from similar duration with fully paid version bought from my Internet service provider VSNL

  • VSNL is a ISP service provider in India

  • Yes, but the translation implies that you bought Nero from VSNL. These translators are decent at best.

  • In that case, he likely has an Essentials version with limited capabilities. He doesn't state what problems he has encountered.

  • I also used Nero 6 Reloaded very satisfactorily under Windows XP for many years (except for the lack of Mp3 encoding) but recently, having moved to a replacement machine running Windows 7 Professional (64 bit), I find that it will not install and no drivers are available to make it compatible with this OS, ..... unless you know something I have not uncovered, ....

So I am on the point of coughing up £30 to upgrade to "Nero 2014", ... and getting a whole load of stuff in there which I, at this stage, do not see my having a use for, .... so, in light of what you say, can you recommend a better choice

    • Several years ago I digitised some audio tapes and I have a whole lot more I could do when time permits plus my vinyl collection, if I ever get around to it.

I used Nero Wave Editor (and maybe SoundTrax) and found it (them) quite effective for cleaning up the final product so an audio editor (with Mp3 encoding) and burning software is all I presently really need.

I am aware there are many other possibilities besides Nero and quite a few free options too but this is where inertia (some would say laziness) kicks in. Because I have used it before and I imagine would soon familiarise with it again I am prepared to fork out the £30 for "Nero 2014" despite the redundancy therein. And anyway, who knows what future needs might be.

My concern was raised when I read the comments above from Messer's Sowerby and Prasad which seemed to be suggesting that the software constituents included in "Nero 2014" are somehow inferior to the earlier versions so I was probing to see what further solid information I could get.

Any clarity on this, from any source, would be appreciated. Are the constituent software packages within "Nero 2014" as comprehensive/functional/flexible/stable/reliable etc. as those of the same name in the earlier software?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can shed any light on this.
    • As far as audio editor, Audacity is hard to beat and its free. I cannot comment on the Nero Package because I only purchase the Burning Rom. If I want a software for audio, video,or back up then I go with a software that only does that particular function. I have never put much faith in software that claims to do it all. Thats just me. Im sure that others would disagree. I do know that I have a specific software for audio, video, and backup and I have never had any problems that you will read about here. Please understand I am not knocking Nero, I have had no problems with their Burning Rom, I just personally stay away from all in one software.

  • The answer to your last question is "Yes".

Sounds like you need Nero Express or Burning Rom, WaveEditor and SoundTrax.

You can buy Nero Burning Rom 2014 online. WaveEditor and SoundTrax are free downloads. I hestitate on these kind of recommendations because, often times, people say all they need is this or that and then they find out they would have liked to had more. You can get a deep discount on Nero 2014 using your old v6 as a trade in and the price is either the same or cheaper than buying Burning Rom separately.

  • Thanks to NOKNOT AND Wither for your helpful comments, ..... I was waiting a while to see if there was any further follow up from others but now I have another concern, ....

I have now purchased "Nero 2014" and successfully downloaded the installation files, ....

    "Nero2014-15.0.06800.exe", ..... and, .... "Nero2014_ContentPack2014-15.0.00200.exe"

These appear to be directly executable files (rather than zip files requiring unpacking) but there is no instruction regarding which to run first, .... which would suggest that it doesn't matter, ... but any advice on this would be appreciated rather than creating a problem which has to be untangled later, ....

Also, from the size of them, I suspect that the installer and files to be installed are all contained therein, thus requiring no internet connection while the installation proceeds, .... can you confirm that please? ....

I ask the above because I prefer to run installations with antivirus disabled but also because, if these are self contained (i.e. not requiring further download in the installation process) simply burning them to a data DVD would secure effective backup of the program, .... correct? ....

    Thanks, ....

  • You would run the 15.0.06800 file first. After installation, run the check for updates from the Nero ControlCenter and install all that appear (even those that may not be checked). Obviously, you will need to be connected to the internet for doing the check for updates. Then install the second file.

Unless your anti-virus has a firewall, I think you could probably do the whole thing with your anti-virus active and connected to the internet.

I always save the files you mentioned on my hard drive for future use but, since they change with updates to the program, I always check for the latest if I have to do a reinstall.

  • First a small (or maybe not so small) administrative point. Wither, when I hover over your icon I see an invitation to "click on good answer" which I would like to do to show my appreciation, ..... but I cannot find where this is, .... I have also looked on your profile and cannot find a button (or a star) to press ..... ?

Another point of admin, ..... through my questions the thread has wandered somewhat from the topic of inception, .... I don't know if that's a problem or not, ..... I have read many forum threads before but this is the first time I have engaged, .... anyway, I have another enquiry which is still loosely related, ....

I have now installed "Nero 2014", "SoundTrax" and "Nero Wave Editor" and a moment ago attempted to look at some of the video tutorials, ... without exception this is what occurs, .....

Everything is fine until the point of initiating "play", .... the initial static picture is there complete, ....

On attempting to play, the audio is fine but the video is unintelligibly fragmented, ..... like a ragged version of the visualisations on "Windows Media Player" when playing an audio file, .... apparently pulsing in sync with the audio, .... the only sign of any order in there is an approximately 5mm square grid (played full screen) upon which this pulsating, variable colour "flare-out" is "washed", .... there is some more definite colour across the top, ..... and it's a bit like the picture break-up on a digital TV when the signal drops out, ....

That's about the best description I can muster, ..... might be able to send a screen shot if required, ....

Incidentally, my version of FlashPlayer is 12.0.0.77, ..... just as yours apparently was in

    http://forum.nero.com/nero_eng/topics...

    Any help greatly appreciated, .....

  • I don't know what happened to the "good answer". It's not there this morning but was there yesterday.

Flash Player is now up to v13 with, I think, two iterations. I haven't installed it yet. Perhaps you would try it.

  • Thanks for your response(s), ..... I have never seen "good solution" here and I have looked on several occasions, .....

I have now updated to the latest version of "FlashPlayer" but the problem persists, .... this is an example of what I see (as a still, I don't know how to record and post a video, as on the other post)

Can't remember which tutorial it was (just checked Nero Burning Rom), but they're all the same.

  • Reading the problem and assistance from Nero given to their costumer i see the
Big problem is operating system of most good feature is intentionally complicated
its very difficult to say that Nero does provide the best one can expect but its made so professional that ordinary man now can not achieve the best because of complication
