How can I save NERO files from old computer and open on new computer with NERO?

Had NERO on old computer now re-installed on new computer. I saved old videos to external hard drive, but when try to open on new computer/NERO I can't edit because the only thing that saved to external drive was any transitions, backgrounds, text, etc., but not my video content? What's the secret to moving videos from computer to computer? (2017 Platinum-Windows 10)

  • Hi Michael-

It sounds to me like you're working with .nvc files. If that's the case, a .nvc file does not contain the actual videos files. It treats them as OLE objects and only references their location. However, when you try to open a .nvc file in Nero Video 2017 and it can't find the video files, it should give you the option of browsing to them. Did it do that?

Are the .nvc files on your external drive and the video files on the old computer drive? You can you access your old computer hard drive?

  • The OLE may be the problem, since I did a test video on NEW computer, and can save/retrieve/edit with no problem. On external drive from old computer, the files are .nvc. It does give the browse option, but because all the old videos are on this side of the old computer (on external drive-copied from old computer), they are .nvc when found via browse.

I can still access the old computer's hard drive. For how long remains to be seen.

    Thanks

  • If you can access the old computer, you can open a .nvc in Nero Vision/Video to see which video file (s) are in the project. You could then find their location. Then, create the same location in your new system and copy the video (s) to that location.

I'm not sure if you would need to place the .nvc file itself in the default location.
