How Do I Achieve a 100% SmartEncoding Ratio With NeroVision 9?

When I'm importing an HD file into NeroVision to make a BluRay disc, what do the video specs need to be to achieve a 100% SmartEncoding ration?

  • That depends on the output format you want to convert the file to. It must fully fit the specifications of that output format (DVD-Video, AVCHD or Blu-Ray).

    Example AVCHD:
For 100% video SmartEncoding your video has to meet the following specifications:
    Video-codec: MPEG4-AVC (H.264)
Video-signal (resolution, frames per second, scanning method, aspect ratio, color encoding system):
    1920x1080* @ 60fps interlaced 16:9 (NTSC)
    1920x1080* @ 50fps interlaced 16:9 (PAL)
    1920x1080* @ 24fps progressive 16:9
    1280x720 @ 60fps progressive 16:9 (NTSC)
    1280x720 @ 50fps progressive 16:9 (PAL)
    1280x720 @ 24fps progressive 16:9
    720x480 @ 60fps interlaced 4:3 or 16:9 (NTSC)
    720x576 @ 50fps interlaced 4:3 or 16:9 (PAL)
    * instead of 1920x1080 also 1440x1080 resolution is allowed

    Sampling structure: 4:2:0
    Quantifying bit number: 8 bit

For 100% audio SmartEncoding your file has to meet the following specifications:
Codec: Dolby Digital (AC-3), Linear PCM
    Bitrate: 64 - 640 kbps (DD), 1.5 Mbps (LPCM for 2 channels)
Audio channels: 1 to 5.1 (DD), 1 to 7.1 channels (LPCM)

The video and audio streams should be packed in an MPEG2-TS (transport stream) file (like *.m2ts or *.mts).

Overall bit rate: max. 24 Mbps (max. 18 Mbps for DVD)

You see, it isn't easy to achieve 100% SmartEncoding. If you edit your video in Nero Video (e.g. cutting scenes etc.) you will probably loose some percentage because the transitions between the cuts have to be rendered.
