How many tracks can go on a CD?

I know the maximum is 99 tracks, but I am wondering if 82 short tracks (total time is under 35 minutes) are too many for Nero to handle? The manual doesn't say. I burned an audio CD, and while my new Pioneer car stereo and PC played it just fine, my Bose Wave CD player, purchased in 1999, produced snaps between some tracks and even started a track in the middle of the first note. I wonder if the high track number might be the cause, although I also just discovered that the session option was chosen for burning, so maybe that was it? I'm trying to save some plastic here, so thought I'd ask!
