I’m confused

How to remove non existant NERO software ;-) ??

I can not upgrade my Windows 10 because it says the upgrade is not compatible with Nero burning ROM. So I have to delete that. But .... on this rather new computer I did not install NERO burning Rom therefore I can't find it in the configuration screen where you can delete any softwareprograms.
So the question is what I can do to remove this software that apparently is somewhere on my computer but can't be found to succesfully remove it.

I hope someone has the right answer

Thanks in advance

Rob

  • Hi Rob-

There's been a number of threads on that issue but no definitive answer.

I can suggest going numerous places and doing some deletions:

If it exists, delete the Nero folder here-

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Nero

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Nero

    C:\Users\"your user name"\AppData\Roaming\Nero

    C:\Users\"your user name"\AppData\Local\Nero

    Delete this folder-

    C:\Users\"your user name"\AppData\Local\Nero AG

    Empty this Temp folder-

    C:\Users\"your user name"\AppData\Local\Temp

    Does that help?

  • Rob,

Using a web search engine and the words, 'cannot update windows nero burning rom', produces many results. However, it's difficult to sort the nonsense from the legitimate! I suppose you could ask Nero Customer Support (no serial number required):

    Support Issues

Help with issues involving recent Nero versions can be obtained directly from Nero by using the email contact form at Technical Support via e-mail. This requires a valid product serial number which has the form XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX (8 groups of 4 characters/digits separated by dashes. Note: The serial number will not have the letter 'O'. Since this is a public forum, DO NOT post your serial number. If your serial number is not accepted, use the contact form at Nero Customer Service.

    • Rob1962,

I suppose you've come across site
https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/w... in your efforts. I just wanted to mention that I have had no problems with updating my Windows 10 Pro system that has Nero 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018 Platinum suites installed. This seems like a problem that Nero and Microsoft need to address together, but I don't see any evidence of that.

  • Maybe give a free uninstaller a go? Iobit for example and see if it can find and remove anything to do with Nero using a deep scan?

Update (problem not solved by the way)

I used iobit to detect any NERO entries: can't find any

And I received a message from NERO support:
    1. Uninstall your Nero program from your computer. (N/A in your case)

    2. Download the Nero FirstAidKit from ftp6.nero.com/tools/NeroFirstAidKit.zip to your hard-drive. Unzip the ZIP-file with WinZip or WinRAR and save the content to your hard drive. Double-click on the unzipped EXE-file to start the Nero FirstAidKit.
-> The window "Nero FirstAidKit (for test only)" will open.

    3. Confirm the message to remove the Nero entries with YES.
-> A status window will open.
The execution of the tool may take several minutes.

    4. Please wait until the progress has been completed.
-> The message "Finished cleaning up" is displayed.

    5. Close the window by clicking the "finish" button.
-> Nero FirstAidKit has removed all Nero entries from your registry.

    6. Reboot your computer.

BUT: this cleaning tool can't find any NERO program/entries on my PC either so there is nothing to clean.
And therefore no update of Windows 10 to execute.

  • Run regedit.exe. Do you have this subkey-

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Nero
