Importing AVCHD files correctly
Hi. Does anyone know how to properly import AVCHD, Canon camera raw files into Nero 17, Video using Windows 7? I thought by importing the MTS files would work but there are dropped frames in between each camera file which are about 20 minutes long. Canon segments their files instead of one large file. Doing reseach, there are some connecting files but not sure how to do that. Please help.

1Have you tried to use the "Import form AVCHD" function instead of just importing the MTS files?-

Ted,
A similar issue occurred in topic Wie kann ich nvavi, nv00, nv01 zusammensetzen? Nerovision index file for splitted AVI. Using the Windows Command Prompt 'Copy' command solved the problem.
I think your situation is described at Canon Vixia HG10 2GB File Limit Headache. The issue can be addressed in the same manner, as described at 3 Free Ways to Join Spanned AVCHD Video Files into Continuous Clips on Windows. -

Hi. It's a year later and I video recorded my daughter’s recital on 2 Canon cameras. One records AVCHD (HF100) and the other records MP4 (HF R800). In the past I am able to import via the “Import AVCHD” but this time I am getting an error message. If I try to import the files directly, after I’ve downloaded to my hard drive I get a video/audio dropout between files in my timeline. I’ve tried combining the files in CMD Windows prompt but have had no success. I think my program code must be wrong or something. Bad SD card(s)? Any other suggestions?

I wouldn't think that dropped frames would be 20 minutes duration but I'm no expert.
I can think of a couple of ways to get the files-
First, Instead of trying to import the AVCHD, drag and drop it onto Nero Video at it's opening screen and then select Edit Video.
Second, use Import AVCHD from Hard Drive. Browse to the AVCHD and Explorer should show the BDMV folder. Select that. In Nero Video, select the title from within.
When I look back at what you said, I guess you used the second method.
You could cut out the dropout using either the trim function or the scissors.
Or, you could put one video on video track 1 and the next on video track 2, etc. and overlap the title on track 2 with the end of the video on track 1. That supposes that the dropout isn't such that it would overwrite the end of the first video.-
Thank you Wither 1. You are always helpful.

I tried you methods to no avail. Still get a gap by 1st method. I initally tried the 2nd and this piece is a dance performance. I can't cut out any program without there being a jump cut and many times it's in the middle of a song. Here's the code I tried if you or anyone would like to look at it:
cd /d S:\FACEBOOK\RAGE RECITAL 2019\CAM 1\101_0601
copy /b MVI_0006.MP4+MVI_0007.MP4+MVI_0008.MP4+MVI_0009.MP4 S:\Merged.mts -

I don't which methods you're referring to in your first sentence. Are you talking about the method of getting the files into Nero Video or the methods for getting rid of the dropout?
To avoid cutting the audio, you would right click on the video on the timeline and select unlink video and audio. Since the dropout is so short, I wouldn't think it would result in a synch problem.
In the scenario you show, you could put the first title on video track 2 and overlap the end of it on the start of the second title on video track 1. to get to additional video tracks, click on New Track on the bottom left of the screen and select Video and Audio track.
If you want us to try using your video, you would need to upload it to a website such as onedrive, dropbox, etc. and share the files. Then get the link to the uploaded video and provide it here. -

I tried this:
I tried to import the AVCHD, drag and drop it onto Nero Video at it's opening screen and then select Edit Video. -

If I put 2 videos on different tracks I will be losing video & sound. There's a definite jump in time where it look & sound like I've lost frames due to the compression process called "spanned files". I guess all cameras use this compression process to get more data onto a SD card. It is not made for video editing as Canon is telling me. There are several 3rd party video joiners that I am trying but thought that I could get this to work.
These can usually be recovered by importing files from the AVCHD file in the past but this time it is not working.-
You shouldn't lose anything except that, the video on a higher track will superimpose on the portion of a video on the lower track that it overlaps.

The files are probably segmented due the file size limitation of FAT32 which SD cards usually use.
On the rare occasions I have this situation with my Canon I use the CanonPixela Video Browser software, that came with my camera, which will download and seamlessly join the individual files into one longer file. With recent Canon cameras you probably don't get the software on a disk but it should be downloadable from the Canon website.
There are also DOS commands which will join the files. Search and you should find them somewhere on the net.- view 1 more comment

I downloaded Camera Window (Canon's Transfer Utility) and downloaded the files. It still segments them.
Did you say recently or on a previous post that it would create 1 combined file? When I put them in a timeline there is still a gap. -
-
Ted, this happened to me but then I realised that Video Browser had also created an additional "joined" version which was in another folder. I just hadn't noticed the additional folder! The Video Browser software is more extensive than Transfer Utility but anyway check that you haven't got another folder with the joined version.

DOS command, from another forum:
The old DOS concatenate command.
eg copy /b clip1.mp4+clip2.mp4+clip3.mp4+clip4.mp4 combined.mp4-
I can see all the files processing but when I look at the finished MP4 there is only one file there.
copy /b MVI_0006.MP4+MVI_0007.MP4+MVI_0008.MP4+MVI_0009.MP4 S:\combined.mp4 -

One thing you could do to mask the "jump" issue is to add a transition there.

Ted,
If you want to provide your files, you could do it by creating a free google account and uploading the files to your free 15 GB if that's enough.

Also, have you checked out camera forums? https://community.usa.canon.com/t5/Ca...

As I understand it, the "segmentation" is at the end of each video and it's very short. That's based on your screen shot of the project on the timeline.
I don't know why either cutting that section out or using the overlap technique I provided wouldn't work and why it would cause a significant problem in playback. You have to do something with that blank space no matter what software you use. Maybe the software that comes with the camera inately handles it.
To contact tech support for v2017, you would go here-
