Installation stops: Reboot validation

When trying to install program and after extracting the files, it calls for the installation of "Microsoft VC Redist 2010 (x86) and Reboot Validation. I keep getting informed that the installation of the Redist failed and the install will quit.

  • Install "Microsoft VC Redist 2010 (x86)" manually:
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downlo...
    Reboot your PC.
Start installation of Nero 12 again.

  • I’m FRUSTRATED
I TRIED that ... the Microsoft site told me that there was a "Newer" Version of this program installed on my system. I have a brand new HPdv7t Computer, with Windows 7 Home premium [64 bit].

I went to the Microsoft web page with the Link you provided above. The Version of the "Microsoft VC Redist 2010 (x86)" shown there would NOT install, because it detected a NEWER version already ON my System!

I went back & tried to install the Nero 2014 Platinum again, & the installation stopped AGAIN, just as described above! I DID THIS AT LEAST 6 TIMES!

This Installation tried to force me to install an "AVG Toolbar", and change my Homepage & Search Functions to AVG ...

WHY DOES THE KRAP NEED TO BE INSTALLED??? I DO NOT APPRECIATE HAVING TO DANCE AROUND & REFUSE TO INSTALL SOMETHING NEW, WHEN I AM ALREADY USNING SOMETHING THAT WORKS!

If you are going to offer such options, it should be on an "OPT IN", rather than an "OPT OUT" basis, AND you should give a better explanation of why it might be good to do so!

Could the reason that the program wouldn't install, be that I refused to add on all this "extra stuff"? The installation of the "Microsoft VC Redist 2010 (x86)"
seems to be tied in with the installation of the "AVG Toolbar stuff".

I try to keep as few Add-On's to my system as possible ... makes it run faster.

So ... do you have a solution to WHY your Nero 2014 Platinum, won't "Play Nice" with my System??? I have been using your Software on various Systems, for several years, with usually good Results.

But I don't appreciate being forced to PAY to speak with Tech Support ... at least for basic Issues, right after Purchase. I am a Veteran, living on Disability Benefits, so I have to be careful of my Financial Resources. I Save up, to buy Quality Products, and expect Quality Service to go with it.

I find it disappointing that at least BASIC Tech Support is not provided by Phone, for free ... at least to the extent of getting the Software up & Running ... I could understand, maybe charging for complicated, or extended Phone Tech Support ...

  • VC 2010 has nothing to do with AVG.

Have you tried right clicking on the installation file and selecting "run as administrator"?

I assume the VC 2010 version installed is 10.0.402019.

  • I don't know where to find this "VC 20" File on my System, so I don't know if it is

version 10.0.402019. I don't know what this File is supposed to do.

I went to the Microsoft web page with this Link:

    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downlo...

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I tried using the "Run As Administrator", and got the following Error messages:

"Nero Requires that your Computer is running Windows XP with at least SP 3, Vista with SP1, or Windows 7"

When I pressed "OK", I got THIS:

Installation of System Requirement Validator has Failed. Setup will now Exit [which it promptly DID!]

This is a Brand New Computer. Perhaps there is a Setting that I failed to engage properly, but I don't know where to go, to find out, OR what Diagnostics [if ANY], TO USE ...

I have installed quite a few other Programs on this Box, with very few Problems ... there seems to be something within Nero Platinum 2014, that won't "Play Nice" with my System ...

As for the AVG stuff, I didn't think it SPECIFICALLY had anything to do with VC 2010, but when I first tried to install Nero 2014, the Avg Toolbar stuff, seemed to be tied up with the other Beginning-of-Installation stuff. I guess it was two separate issues, but they were so close together, that I thought they were Related.

Anyway, I hope this Installation Issue can be resolved ...

    Thank You,

    Ronald L. Grant

  • Go to Control Panel, Programs and Features. The installed versions of the C++ redistributables will be shown under Microsoft Visual.......................................

I recommend that you temporarily disable your anti-virus and all it's security features before trying the installation.

If 10.0.42019 is installed, you could uninstall it and try the installation. You might also uninstall 10.0.30319 also before trying the reinstall. They will be reinstalled.

  • Are you sure there isn't a Typo, here?

There isn't a 2010 Redistributable "10.402019", but there are TWO Files

with a "40219" . One of them is labeled "x64" the other is "x86" ... otherwise the Name & Numerical designations are the same.

YOUR Designation, as shown above, has an extra zero, in the Version #.

There are several of these listed among my Programs, from 2005, 2008, 2010, and 2012 ... with various Version #'s

These were installed, when I did a series of Windows Updates, while setting up my Computer.

What do these Programs actually DO? O I am a bit afraid to remove ant of them, and if I DO have to remove one ... I want to be sure that it is the RIGHT one ... because of that extra zero in the Version # you showed, as compared to the Version # on my Computer.

The "10.0.30319" Version, doesn't seem to be on my System. WHY does this Version of Nero 2014, seem to be so difficult, when Earlier Versions were not?

I also tried turning off my AV [I have a copy of Avast Internet Security]. I also have copies of Malware Bytes Pro, and something called "Win Patrol", by Bill P Studios. These last two, I have been using for Years, with no problems. Neither one have interfered with any of my other Installations on this Computer.

Win Patrol is like "MS-Config on Steroids" It does the same thing, only moreso.

Please correct me, on the Version #'s for the
Redistributable Programs, and WHICH one I should remove, before I try to install my copy of Nero 2014.

Meanwhile, I have a Copy of Nero 2012 Platinum that I would like to use as a Backup ... but I have lost the Serial Number! Could you please help me recover that #, or give me another one?

    Thanks!

  • Yes, you're correct. I added an extra 0. Sorry about that. I fixed the post.

The redistributables are required for some programs that use the C++ language. Nero is one of them. For Nero, each version uses a different version of the redistributables. For instance, if you had v12 installed, it would use the C++ 2008 redistributables. Just uninstall the 10.0.42019.

I have installed Nero 2014 (I call it v14) Platinum on both my Vista and Win 7 systems and have had no problems.

We're not Nero employees so we can't do anything about your serial number. If you had v12 installed previously and as long as you haven't reinstalled your operating system, the serial number will be in the registry. When you reinstall v12, it will automatically find your serial number. You should write it down. I keep all my serial numbers, user names, passwords, etc. written down in a notebook separate from my computer. Makes life so much easier.

  • I TRIED EVERYTHING YOU SUGGESTED ... including, going to the Microsoft Link suggested above, and downloading the copy of Redistributables.

I tried running the Installation under "Run As Administrator", as well as the "conventional" way. I tried turning off my AV ... NOTHING HAS WORKED!

If you are not an employee of Nero, can you tell me what Department to go to, to get this resolved ... like, either get a DVD Copy of the Program, get a Refund [assuming that I want to do that ... not quite ready to do it yet], and/or get a recovered Serial # for the copy of Nero 2012 Platinum, that I already have ...

I appreciate your help, but I am kind of PISSED at Nero, for not letting me speak to a Technician in the Phone, without having to PAY ... at least on Basic Issues like this!

I am a Veteran, living on Disability Benefits. I have to be careful of my Financial resources. I don't mind paying a Fair Price, for a Good Product ... but I expect a certain amount of Basic Live Technical Help, as a part of this Process!

YOUR Help is appreciated, but STILL Telephone Support would ALSO be appreciated ...

So ... anything more that You can do regarding this Issue, would be good ...

    Thanks!

  • I didn't ask you to go to Microsoft and download the redistributable. I said to uninstall it. Nero will install it during the installation. If you reinstalled it before trying the installation of Nero, uninstall it and then try the Nero installation.

You can e-mail tech support at techsupport@nero.com. It's free. There's also a free chatline but I don't have the link handy. For a problem this complex, it's best to use the e-mail.

In regards to v12, did you ever have it installed?

  • I didn't mean that YOU asked me to go to Microsoft & install the Redistributable ... but I was referring to Gerald G' Post [right above where we started], where he suggests that "High Flyer" do this, in answer to the same problem that I am having.

Before we started, I had tried going ton the Microsoft website, & getting THAT copy. At the time, it wouldn't install, because I had not uninstalled the Program [like you later suggested], and the Microsoft Download site said that the Program on my Computer was newer.

THAT'S where you came into the picture ... I then tried your suggestion of uninstalling the 2010 Redistributable. There was two of them ... an "X86", & "X64". I ended up uninstalling both of these.

Afterwards, I tried to install the Nero Software, & got exactly the same results. That's when I went to the Microsoft website, & tried to download the 2010 Redistributable again. THIS time it downloaded & installed.

I tried to install the Nero Software again after doing this ...NADA! So ... I have tried installing the Nero Software, both as "Administrator", & without, both WITH, & without the Redistributable stuff.

I never had the version 12 installed, but I did have a downloaded copy of the serial # stashed away. This is a New System, so the previous Installation wouldn't have applied anyway ...

Apparently, the "Reboot Validator" is separate from the Redistributable Package, and THAT is what is failing to install! Nero doesn't seem to recognize this System, according to THIS Message:

"Nero Requires that your Computer is running Windows XP with at least SP 3, Vista with SP1, or Windows 7"

This came up in a little box directly OVER the box that said was "Installing" the Reboot Validator. THAT operation seemed to be paused, while the above notice was visible.

When I pressed the "OK" button on this Notice, I got THIS:

Installation of System Requirement Validator has Failed. Setup will now Exit [which it promptly DID!]

And THIS is the "Time Warp" I seem to be caught in!

  • Since you can't find your v12 serial number and you never installed v12, it won't be registered. However, if you bought it from the online shop, Asknet should have a record of the purchase and should be able to provide your serial number.

Send an e-mail to tech support in regards to your problem. They'll probably want you to either run a logging program or may want you to generate a nerosupport.cab file so they can take a look at your system. Probably both.

  • @ Ronald Grant
I had the same problem as you and found that if I choose to abort the installation of the AVG crap I would get the problem but if I choose custom and uncheck the 3 boxes below custom and then clicked accept and install it would not install AVG and installed nero 14 plat. with no problems.

  • I’m frustrated
I am very disappointed that Nero is now so cluttered in setup with this reboot validator. I have purchased Nero12 & 14 but can't use either due to this issue (I am based on Windows7) so have decided to give up and move over to PowerDirector after years of using earlier Nero versions. Bye
