Is there a way to get better playback quality?

I got the Nero 2015 Platinum, I'm burning mp4 to DVD to play on a stand alone dvd player. Is there a way to get better playback quality? Thank you

  • Hi Michelle,
You can experiment with the quality settings in Nero Video to see if you can achieve better results ...

Setting such as 2 pass encoding, fine tuning to maximum quality for example.

I recommend turning off "SmartEncoding" and setting "fit to disc" also.

Some examples of adjusted settings below:

(You can click on each picture to get a better view.)

From Options ... select Recording Format Options:

    Disable "SmartEncoding" :

On the DVD Video tab, change some settings to increase quality:

You can "burn" to a folder on your hard drive and see the results via playing the Video_ts structure if you like - to avoid wasting discs while you find the best settings ...

Bear in mind, that if the input video file is quite large, Nero will automatically reduce the quality in order to fit it onto a standard DVD disc ... but some exeriments with these settings may help you get the best you can.

    • That's a tricky one, because I sometimes experience video files (usually .mp4 files) that suffer from pixels within Nero Video - even though they display OK in other players and even play back OK with Nero MediaHome ... but when it comes to transcoding, they suffer from pixelation.

The only way I have found to cure that is to convert them using another software package called Freemake Video Converter. From a .mp4 to a .mkv for example. It is a free software package.

This results in a fairly time consuming process however, because I prefer to use Nero Video to burn DVD's ... so I end up converting with that other software, then loading and burning the resulting file into Nero Video.

There is no guarantee that the other software will fix your pixel issues, but maybe worth a try?
    • Awesome, thank you. I'm burning dvd's for the girls on basketball team (I coach). I'm trying to make the movies as best As I can but its OK if it's not perfect. I may try what you said but if it's time consuming maybe not. LOL. Thank you so much for your help!!
