Is there any possibility to let Nero Recode replace the original file?

I have a complex folder structure with lots of movies of different photo cameras. I want to let Nero Recode convert them, preferable by replacing the original file, otherwise putting the new file in the same folder as the source file. Is this possible?

Thx!

  • I don't know why you want to recode all your videos but I assume you want to recode to a different format than the original. In that case, I don't know how to get it to replace the original.

You can specify the destination for the recoded file in the main screen.

  • This is per definitionem not possible. The source file is in use during the recoding/transcoding process. It's needed for the algorithms calculating the output video. Therefore the source file cannot be replaced in real time. The only possibility would be to replace the source file und rename output file after the encoding process automatically by the software.

I don't know any software that uses this feature at the moment.

  • I mentioned recoding to a different format because the final file will be renamed with the new format extension. In that case, there's no way for Windows to pick up on that's it's the same file, with alterations.

If you had a .mp4 and recoded it to mp4, it's possible that Windows could pick up on that. For instance, if you have the same file in two folders and you try to copy from one folder to another, Windows will ask you what you want to do- replace, keep both copies, etc. But, if it's going into the same folder, it will just rename it to copy.......

What you're saying is that it's working with the original file and not a copy, as in Nero Video.

I think that Nero MediaHome is still replacing the original file when you edit it. I don't like that.
