Make gopro video bigger size on screen

How can I make videos in 4k PLUS videos from my gopro at a smaller resolution all the same size? In other words, how can I get the gopro video to "upscale" to 4k so that they don't look smaller on the finished video?

  • I'm assuming that your comment refers to the display size of the video during playback.

When you have the video on the timeline and the effect palette open, click on the video. It's properties will show up on the upper right hand side of the screen. One of the options is Scaling. You can use that to maximize the display size within the aspect ratio.

Also, when the video is displayed in the screen, there are squares on the screen which you can grab and move to change the size within the aspect ratio.

If your intention is to burn the 4k from Nero Video, the resolution will be 1920x...
In that case, you should go into the Movie Options and select HDTV Full HD. That may mitigate what you need to do in regards to the size. If you want to save the video in 4k, you would use the 4k option.

  • Wither, thanks for all that information. I found the options you talked about and also tried the "manually" scaling of the pieces/parts.

    One a couple more questions.

Are you saying that my original 4k video is "down-scaled" to just HD by Nero and then when I export to an mp4 at 4k it is just "up-scaling" the "down-scaled" version?

Or is my original 4k going to be as it was originally at 4k and only the gopro is being "up-scaled"?

Or are both "down-scaled" and then "up-scaled" meaning that all my original 4k resolution is lost?

  • What I'm saying is that if you're going to "burn" a 4k video to a blu-ray disc in Nero, the resolution of the video on the disc will be 1920x... It will be lower if you select DVD-Video or AVCHD-DVD. Until you select a disc option, the resolution will be the native resolution of the video unless you select a Movie Option which lowers the resolution. I'm quite sure if the latter is entirely correct. Tech support would be better able to answer that one.

If you are going to Export a 4K video to file, the resolution of the exported video will be 4k. I think that also depends on if you select 4k in the Movie Options.

I don't know the resolution of your gopro video but, the resolution of video which is at some low resolution isn't going to be at a higher resolution when you burn or export it.

  • The GoPro video is 2704 x 1520 and the other video is 3840 x 2160. Even though I stretched the GoPro video in Nero to the full screen and specified the "Options|Movie Options" to Ultra HD 4k, when I exported to a AVCHD Ultra HD (4k), I still got the smaller GoPro video with a black frame around it.

The exported video was 3840 x 2160 but the GoPro only fills a 2704 x 1520 portion of the frame with the rest being black.

When I preview play it in the editor, it looks fine. Only when it finally exports it, is it the original smaller size for the GoPro parts. The parts of the video that came from video that was already 4k properly fill the whole screen.

    Any other ideas?

    ... time passes ...

Never mind. I just noticed that the output had named the file differently because it already existed. Instead of overwriting it, it apparently made the same name but added a "001" in the file name. So I was looking at the wrong exported file.

I believe your suggestions above DID work. Thanks again.

  • Honestly, I fully expected that you would have black lines. Nero Video automatically detects the aspect ratio of the video. If you change the video to fill the screen and exceed the bands it sets to maintain the aspect ratio, it will start to crop your video. As a result, the final video won't have all the material, for lack of a better word, of the original video. Did you notice something like that?
