I’m very frustrated!!

MOV file to format that will play on a TV

I have some video clips that I have made into a movie and since I upgraded to Windows 10 I can't get anything to work> I make the movie in WMM and then go to Nero Express to burn it and it says it is not compliant and has a bunch of TS_ ??? I don't know what to do?? What format should I convert my movie to, and what free video converter is the best? Thank you, Chris

  • Hi, if you want turn your movie into a DVD-Video you have to use Nero Video.

You can also try to put the movie on an USB stick and attach it to the TVs USB port.

    • Also, I have a small video the is in MP4 format and when I right click on it to burn it to Nero 2017 it says burn a data cd or burn an audio cd and I want to burn a video DVD? What is going on?
    • What format works best for replying on a TV? WMV, MP4, AVI, etc;? That depends on your TV encoding software if sourcing from a USB. If placing for burning on DVD then any of those will do as long as they are in good condition and not corrupt and Nero will take them. You might get a sound issue with some WMV formats. If you burn any of the formats using a Nero DVD Authoring Tool such as Nero Video or Nero Vision Express then it will convert your files to an ISO disc. An ISO disc is a MPEG2 PAL encoded disc also know as a DVD-Video. This is structured the same way as a retail disc and will play on any player. I think they say they are Yellow Booked or something like that. I wouldn't burn any other resulting disc type unless you enjoy headaches. What are you using in Nero 2017? Some versions are packed with programmes and Nero can burn in various ways and what you are using seems orientated towards CD. Check you programme interface settings. You might have a toggle switch or drop down menu for CD or DVD in the same programme. At the end of the day, If you want to burn basic video files to a DVD-/+R or RW with no issues, use the Nero DVD Authoring Tool such as Nero Video or Nero Vision Express in the older versions. Blank media; There is little difference for you to worry about between +/-. Branding; Blank optical DVD media comes in 4 classes. By good brands especially when burning DVD9's (dual layer). Place Maxwell's in the bin along with Data-write, PC Line, Imitation, Packard Bell and so on. You need TDK or Verbatim. Now Sony - watch these ones. Only by Sony blank DVD media that has been made in Japan. Sony did have them made elsewhere but they pulled production many years ago because of poor procedure and clean room standards. There may be a few disc left around. Keep away from bargain shops. They lap-up strong brands that are below specification. I use Verbatim R and RW for testing. Some disc will fail as with all and Verbatim omit this. I was getting one fail every 50 units. Here's a tip. If you have a disc at home CD/DVD that gives trouble after awhile make a copy of it and that should play better. Keep original safe.

  • Hi Chris, I use 'Video to Video' free converter. Here is the link;
    http://www.videotovideo.org/
I didn't get any third-party rubbish or annoying deals with it but be careful when you install and watch those tick boxes. I've had mine since 2011. It's got a lot of goodies and formats to choose from. You can adjust screen resolutions; 640x480, 720x576, 1920x1080 and so on plus output ratio settings. This won't improve the quality of your original video file but you might have to use these settings together or seperatly it to get the aspect ratio correct if Nero encodes the converted file differently when viewed in the preview window on Nero Video or the older NeroVisionExpress. This will be time consuming as it's a hit and miss deal and then try again. The later Nero's do have an interface to deal with that where you can pull the screen edges back to suit but this may not be in Nero Express. Most of the time you should be OK and the picture should maintain correct proportions but screen sizes can be a nightmare for video encoding. You can also adjust audio volume and choose your audio container, mp3, acc and so on. Video processing bit rates can again be selected with options on '2 pass' encoding that will make your resulting file smaller with best quality and bring efficiency for archiving, so take your time and do some short conversions or click 'Stop' for the conversion process, find the resulting file and drop that into your Nero Express and see if it can play ball with it. All video conversions will reduce render/picture quality. Most of the time I select the video format/container and use the default settings for bit rate where the software will apply best rate for file imported. Nero tends to like avi as a starting point.

    Regards
    Chris.

  • Hi Chris,
I do want to burn some videos to disc, I am just trying to figure out what format I should use? WMM automatically formats it to MOV and that isn't working.

  • Chris,

Do you want to make a DVD Video or simply copy videos to a DVD that are compatible with your TV?

For the latter, acceptable video formats should be listed in your TV's manual. For example:

  • I’m super frustrated!!
I made a video in Windows Movie Maker and saved it at the recommended setting. Now I want to take that video and burn a DVD using Nero 2017. I also have an older version of Nero that I used to use all the time and it worked great. I would make a video in WMM and then import it to Nero Express and it worked! Since I upgraded to Windows 10, everything has gone to XXXX! I saw today that I need to convert my video to a VOB file and then Nero will recognize it? I downloaded the VideotoVideo converter and it works great and is user friendly. I just want to make family videos and burn them to DVD'S so I can watch them with the family on my TV!! I am feeling so frustrated right now, so sorry for all the info!!

  • Thanks for video. Well. Looks very simple but I think some what misleading. I mean it depends what sort of project you want to make and how creative you feel. Do you want to edit scenes out or insert a new one and include or change a soundtrack. Nero will never say that our software has a steep learning curve but it dose. I've got 2016 but I find 6 more comfortable, but then I did spend months learning it. There's a lot more in 2016 and it can handle more formats but you lose some useful fixes too for my money, more things to learn for little gain but things move on.

  • I’m Extremely anxious and confused!!
That video makes it look so simple, but how do I get my video library to stay open on the same screen as Nero so I can drop the clips into the program? So, you guys are saying that I shouldn't save my movie in WMM? I should just import all the clips into Nero? Also, when I import all my clips into WMM , the editing is so simple!! I can split the bad part out of a clip and then delete the bad part and just keep going. Adding transitions is super easy and title and credits. I don't see this simplicity with Nero. I never add soundtracks to my video as I just want the sounds and voices already on the clips; make sense? Nero 2017 might be too complicated for me, the simple home movie maker who is not a professional by any stretch. What I was doing has worked for years and I think I could keep doing it if I could get my clips in the right format. The videotovideo converter is very user friendly, however, after you have converted the clips, where does it store it Chris S?

  • When I have saved a project in WMM and I right click on burn a disc with Nero, it say burn a data disc?? Data is not the same as video, is it?

    • Chris Holland,

The wlmp file is not a video, it is a project file that only has meaning to WLMM. Videos are saved by clicking one of the options on the right:

If you put the result onto a Data DVD in Nero Express, it should play on your TV - assuming your TV has that ability and accepts that format. Have you checked the manual?
    • There are two primary ways to burn a DVD: Creating a data DVD that is usually only readable by a computer. Creating a video DVD that can play in a DVD player.

  • If I understand, select your required folder in the VTV main window. It's about half way down, run across the page like a bar and has a picture of a folder. Next time look for this in the install procedure. Let me know if it works?
