MP4 FILE FREEZES IN NERO VIDEO
I imported an MP4 file to make a blu ray in Nero Video. For some reason the file freezes Nero for a bit and when it unfreezes all I get is sound and no picture. Even in the editing screen. I know the file is fine. It plays fine when I just look at it on my computer. Any ideas what I can do?

Video Issues
In most cases, it is helpful to provide information on the problem source video. Probably the easiest way to provide detailed data on a video is to paste the data from the clipboard after following instructions in topic Use MediaInfo in Your Browser. Alternatively, uploading a video to one of the cloud services and pasting a link to the file enables others to download the file and try to replicate the issue.
It never hurts to also indicate:
- The Nero application title and version.
- The Windows version.
- Graphics device
- Project screenshots if applicable
- Screenshots of error dialogs, if applicable
For recent versions of Nero, official support can be obtained directly from Nero:
Support Issues
Help with issues involving recent Nero versions can be obtained directly from Nero by using the email contact form at Technical Support via e-mail. This requires a valid product serial number which has the form XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX (8 groups of 4 characters/digits separated by dashes. Note: The serial number will not have the letter 'O'. Since this is a public forum, DO NOT post your serial number. If your serial number is not accepted, use the contact form at Nero Customer Service. - The Nero application title and version.

If it's freezing in the editing screen, you might try clicking on Options, Application Settings and then selecting "enable Nero background rendering" in the Editing tab, if it's not selected..
You might also change the quality by moving the slider provided by clicking on the leftmost icon underneath the preview screen.- view 2 more comments

He just wants to know if I searched the forum for similar problems. No.

Searched but haven't found the problem.

Actually, the file plays fine until I try to clip the beginning. Or, in editing try to do something. Even if I play a few seconds and then pause it freezes. If I wait it starts with only the sound. I am using Nero Classic 2017 in Windows 10. I have used this many times and have never had this happen.

Don,
For what it's worth, it appears to me that there's nothing out of the ordinary there. There are many instances in the forum where problem files can be used by Nero after remuxing - copying the video and audio streams into a new container. A number of programs can be used. Three free ones are tsMuxeR, VLC Player, and XMedia Recode. If you want to try XMedia Recode:
- Download and install.
- Open XMedia Recode
- Set the output file location at the bottom of the screen.
- Open your source file.
- On the Format tab, select Profile: Custom, Format: MP4, File Extension: mp4
- On the Video tab, select Mode: copy.
- On the Audio tab, select Mode: copy
- Click the green "Add to queue" symbol at the top.
- Click "Encode".
Since it's a copy operation it is very quick. - Download and install.

The video codec is avc1. We hashed the hell out of it in this thread-
http://forum.nero.com/nero_eng/topics...
The user went to tech support but, in the end, he complained about not receiving a response. I asked him to remind me about it so I could go directly to support, if necessary, but he didn't reply.- view 1 more comment

What can I tell you. The user had a similar problem and, if it was resolved, he didn't tell us.

Wither 1,
You can tell me what the avc1 codec has to do with this or any other issue! -
