*.mov is a proprietary video container format from Apple. If you want to create mov files you can buy the Apple QuickTime Pro or software like Adobe Premiere Pro.
But why do you want to create mov files? ;) I would stay with mp4, which has a wider range of supporting devices (also Apple products). -

I've created an mp4 video which I want to share with my kids which (gasp!) run Apple. I've seen conflicting information about whether an mp4 will run on Apple, so to be safe, want to give them a .mov copy too.

If you made your mp4 video using Nero Video's MPEG-4 option, it cannot be played on Apple devices; however, if you made it using the AVC option, I think it can be played. When MPEG-4 is chosen in Nero Recode, AVC is the default, but it can be changed:
