MyDocuments located on network drive

I have moved 'MyDocuments' folder to my NAS and is now located at Z:\. When the update program for Nero Platinum 15 runs i get error message 'Invalid Drive Z:\' is there a fix for this or do i have to keep putting MyDocuments to it's default location before updating?

  • Are you running XP? Just wondered because the MyDocuments folder is not accessible in Vista and later. I don't know why the updater would be looking in that folder. There's no application files stored there- only things like custom templates that a person creates in CoverDesigner.

I assume the Z: drive is mapped in Windows Explorer.

I recommend that you send an e-mail to techsupport@nero.com. I think that switches used in a NAS when it is idle or accessing different drives cause some problems like this.

Let us know what you find out.

  • Just as an aside ... Nero Video does not like trying to import files from Network Drives either.

I've never got it to work and have had to bring files to a local drive for it to work.

  • How have you moved MyDocuments to a network drive?
Normally, this is not supported by microsoft - I have just tried to add a network drive to My Documentes and windows refused to do that (drive is not indexed).
According to Microsoft help, this only works if you mark the folder for offline use.

What a load of rubbish. Just updated Nero 15 software by temporarily moving MyDocuments back to C: drive, without moving contents. Looked in MyDocuments after update it was empty so why does Nero PreRequisite Installer V4.0 need to look at MyDocuments in the first place!!!!!!!! Have now put MyDocuments back to Z: drive.

  • Please see:
    http://robertlathanh.com/2011/01/erro...

It would be the Cause 3:
"Cause 3: The installer/updater doesn’t have access to the network folder / mapped drive"
Please try to run Command and remap the network folder as Administrator as the post suggests.

Please let us know if it works.

I am replying in this thread:
    a) I have the 1327 error - literal error is a popup dialog from Nero Control Center: Error Invalid Drive Z:\
    b) this is with Nero2016 classic - but I get the same error with Nero10

Some insights: Since Windows "automated" OneDrive, even on Windows7 (or maybe I activated it on my W7 laptop thinking it was a good thing) I had my first runin with "things" not working with a computer name. How is the (potentially) relevant? OneDrive "redirects" My Documents to the OneDrive area - and I am wondering of the Nero Installer (as most of the 1327 posts started about a year ago) is being confused by the "low-level" way onedrive is redirecting.

I am still suffering from this issue - and would be grateful for a suggestion.
FYI: as much as I could I have disabled OneDrive (it is an addon on Windows7 and it is deleted, also the addon part in Windows Office).

    Additional question:
Is there a way to start a "custom" install (e.g., skip CC install) from the standard installer?

    • I just got a 2nd reply from NERO tech support - problem solved!

Their first recommendation was to create a new user with Admin rights (as a way to setup defaults I expect). I followed their Plan B instead.

Plan B - open regedit and look in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders for any references to the 'bad drive'. I found three, edited them to C:\users\\ and install worked.

So, imho - "Holy Grail" aka solution found: verify regedit "...\Shell Folders" do not have any references to the 'bad drive', and edit them to local drive if you find any.
    • Fantastic! I'm glad tech support was able to find a solution and it worked.

      Enjoy!

ASIDE: the captcha "visuals" is broken for new accounts is broken, and it would be better if you told BEFORE the captcha check that the password does not meet your requirements.
