Need Full Function nero Showtime 2?

How to activate, or obtain a working versioin, of a full function of Showtime 2 or 3?? Due to a third party tech. support, they deleted my version that had a working "set A" and "set B" cue points which I use for astronomy timing. I now have Showtime 3 from NERO 7, but that feature does not work either, and I also tried Showtime 4 (does not have them either); HOW to get a functioning NERO Showtime with 'set A' and 'set B'? (or a different player with that feature?) Thanks For Any Help!

  • Using the 'cue points' for occultation timings between asteroids and more distant stars. The timings are in milliseconds, so the Set A and Set B timings are essential.

  • If Showtime 2 comes with Nero v6, the only way to get it is to buy the v6 update disc at nero.com. However, you need your purchased serial number to use it. If your registry wasn't replaced, it would still be there.

I could go look at the manuals for Showtime but it would be easier if could you explain what you mean by Set A and Set B? Sounds like Playlists.

  • Please be aware that our products based on generation Nero 6 does not support Windows Vista and above.

I just looked at ShowTime in v9. Honestly, I don't know what the A B C D buttons are for. I've created playlists A and B, I've played an audio CD and a DVD-Video. The A B C D buttons are never active. The help file indicates that the bar containing those designations is for audio CD and VCD. Since I don't have a VCD I can't check it.

  • Hi -Thanks for all the inputs ; the only version I now have (of Showtime) is marked as version3.10.1.0, and it was part of Nero Premiere 7; I found a copy of this Nero 7 and installed it, but during install, it notified me that there was an newer version of Nero installed ( Nero 10), and that in order to install Nero 7, I had to completely remove the newer version (which I did). I don't believe there was a version of Showtime on Version 10 of Nero, it had been replaced with another player with even less capabilities than the last (?) version of Showtime.
Anyway, the Showtime version with Nero 7, when it's opened, and you look at the Menu items, there is one item called, "Repeat"; under that menu item, you'll see Repeat Off (underlined), and an option grayed out named "Repeat this chapter", followed by a functional (not grayed out) "Repeat" and a functional "Repeat all" (which is underlined); below the "Repeat all" are two additional items, both of which are grayed out in this version 3 of Showtime, named "Set A" and "Set B", with the "Set B" shown below the words "Set A". Since both of these 'commands' are grayed out, they are non-functional. In the working verion I used to have, I could press the 'r' key on the keyboard, and the the first 'r' click would set A, and the second 'r' click would set B, and that time interval (whatever it was between the two 'r' clicks ) would loop indefinitely. When I would have a stored astronomy file, say of 10 miutes total in length, I could set A and set B for say an interval of 15 seconds to watch in the middle of the file instead of having to watch the whole 10 minute file over and over to find the timing I was watching for.

So, I am looking for that same version of Showtime that allows Set A and Set B so that I can loop a particular segment of a media file.

Does this make sense ? Thanks again. Versions 3 and 4 of Showtime don't work for me, and I don't know if there specific ways to turn other freatures on, including the Set A and Set B; so I thoght I'd try Showtime 2 if I can obtain a copy of it, even with the associated additional Nero software.

  • Okay, I have ShowTime 5.4.27 on this drive (I can go to v4 on another hard drive). I followed your instructions and when I click on "r" during a movie it says A set. If I move to another part and click on "r" it says B set. I can then use the Repeat to make it cycle but there's no A and B listed in the menu. I couldn't master the repeat although I'm sure there's a way. However, I found another way.

In the following screenshot, when I was playing a video, if I clicked on the button circled in red, it would say A set. If later I clicked on it again, it would say B set. It would then cycle from A to B repeatedly.

I need to look at v4.

  • The things I do. I booted to my other hard drive and checked ShowTime. It is v4.3.9 which is associated with Nero V8. The one I've already talked about was associated with Nero v9.

Using the "r" button as described previously causes the repeated replay between A and B. It also works the same way using the button I described above. I should also mention that the A and B setpoints still don't show up in the Repeat menu.

By the way, the A B C D buttons that I was talking about earlier and don't know what they're for are the ones shown here-

  • Well, I do have Nero V8 in the box, and i'll reload it to see if the Showtime is the same version you indicte (4.3.9). that's great help sir, and I'll give it a try in a short while - I really appreciate the feedback! In fact, I'll try those steps with the version 3 that I have on the drive now (only C Drive), before reloading my V8.

  • Rather than install from the box-

If you have the serial number, go to Nero.com, Downloads. Select Previous Product Downloads. Find the v8 Update. Download and install it. During the installation, insert your purchased serial number. You will then have the latest version of v8, assuming your serial number is for the full version.

I suspect that the button I highlighted for v5 would work in v2 or 3.

I should note that the menu configuration in v5 is much better than in previous versions. However, you would need the full Nero 9 to get it.

  • So far, all to no avail. I updated both v7 and v8 (Nero), and with both, the Showtime still does not 'turn on' the settable points. Nero v7 gave me v3.10.1.0 of Showtime, and Nero v8 of Nero had v4.3.9.0 of Showtime; the v7 Nero Showtime did have the 'skin' showing the A B C D buttons (non-functional) and other icons (which I tried), but they were not seen at all on the v8 Nero Showtime. Under the Repeat menu item, still the Set A and Set B were grayed out and did not do anything. I'm really at a loss as to how to get a working Showtime as I had before!

  • I think I've confused you. The A B C D buttons that I provided a screenshot for are the ones I have no idea what they're for. I'm guessing they're for a VCD or possibly website playback. I only talked about those buttons because I had no idea what you were talking about with A set and B set and those were the only buttons I saw called A and B.

In v4.3.9, if I played a video and hit "r" wherever I wanted to start playback and hit "r" wherever I wanted it to end, it said "A set" and "B set" respectively. When I did that, it repeatedly played back from A to B. It does the same thing in V5 except that I was just a little confused about how to make it repeat because it was the first time I tried it.

By the way, I don't know how you updated v7 unless you bought the v7 download.

  • On the A B C D buttons screenshot, I found (on v3.10 Showtime), they were 'included on a 'pop-out' extension of the Showtime skin, and they were grayed out there so I don't know what they did either. When you 'right-click ' when the Showtime player is on screen, don't you get a screen window that opens and contains a whole list of feature options, like, Play, Stop, Pause, Step Forward, and among several other 'commands', Repeat ; ? Its this repeat I am speaking of - under this Repeat options are 'Repeat off, Repeat this chapter, Repeat, Repeat all, and Set A and Set B; the only options I can get to work are Repeat off (which is default), Repeat, and Repeat all - nothing else functions under that Repeat feature.
I also don't understand why your v4.3.9 works and mine doesn't in Nero8.

I was able to locate an archived copy of v7 Nero, and that cotained v3.10.1.0 of Showtime. From the Nero site, I was able to download, then install the update for that version

What you explain in your last with hitting ''r' twice and having that part of a video play repeatedly is exactly what I was getting before - now, hitting 'r' doesn't do anything - the space key will pause, and restart, and that is the only key that works!
Hey - I really appreciate your assistance on this; I'll 'fiddle' around the next day and see if I can make any progress, but on this v4 Showtime, of mine, I have no A B C D buttons, so I'll work on that too.

  • Way back when, the icon I circled in my screenshot is called AB Repeat (R). It does the same thing as pressing "r" on your keyboard.

I was messing around in v5 this morning and found that hitting "r" will first turn off Repeat but clicking it again causes the Aset to appear-

  • Hi,

No, not yet; I didn't give up, and I'm sorry that I had not replied before now. I am pretty sure that at least part of this problem with any Nero that I try has to do with a PC registry issue (dealing with Showtime and related features). I do have the 'box' version 8 Nero (Ultra), and I am going to install that on another PC (OS is Vista) once I get access to it, and also on a new PC running Win 7. We'll see how that goes. It my take a few days though as I tripped and fell Saturday (darn fool) and now I have a very sore left arm, elbow, and hand. But again, I appreciate your help and suggestions on the issue.

  • Let me know how it turns out.

By the way, I asked tech support about the A B C D buttons and they brushed it off because they no longer support v9 and earlier. It was just a general question that I thought one of their old hands would know right off the top of their head but ........................

  • So pleased to let you know that I got the 'problem' with Showtime resolved - this was after a boad-load of having trial-and-error and downloading various software.
Well, it turns out that in order to have a full function Showtime, the Nero software had to have a recent version of Microsoft's DIRECT X installed on the PC. I am now using Showtime 3 (included with Nero 7) and at first, it did not work either for the 'loop' function, but with DIRECT X installed, it's a full function player.
Again, thanks for all the assistance.

  • Funny you should reply right now. I just got through commenting to someone else about how Nero wouldn't help me with those A B C D buttons.

Normally, the Nero installation includes the required DirectX version so that should have never been an issue.

In any case, I'm glad you got it working. It's been a long haul. I learned a lot of new things about Showtime in talking with you. I thank you for that even though those options haven't been carried over into Nero MediaHome.

    Enjoy!
