I’m frustrated

Nero 11 inserts tiny passage of silence into first track of burned music compilation

I have burned a few music compilations with Nero 11 on Windows 10 and most of them have inserted a tiny silent period into the music on the first track. Any ideas?

  • Hi David-

Is the first track a single audio file?

If you open the file in WaveEditor, do you see any breaks and does it play correctly there?

  • Hi
It is a single flac and the file has no breaks.
    Thanks

  • Thanks again for your advice.
I have tried burning to an image and that does not reproduce the problem so I am thinking that it may be related to my system in some way. I need to investigate that further. I don't think that I have previously burned a CD under Windows 10.

    • Actually, that doesn't make sense since the rewrite speed is only 12x!!!
    • That's reasonable. I normally use 10x but it's just a personal choice. Some people try to use like 48x and that rarely works.

There was something else I thought of right after I last posted but, darn if I can remember what it is. The brain is churning right now but, it's getting slow at 73. :)

Does it do the same thing for any other files you burn?

      Go here-

      C:\Users\"your username"\AppData\Roaming\Nero\Nero 11\Nero Burning ROM

Find the nerohistory.log file. Open it and copy it's contents in a Reply box. Note that it may not fit in one Reply box. After the first paste, click on Reply. Then check where it ends. If it's not complete, copy and paste the remainder to a "new" Reply box. Repeat as necessary. (Betty Crocker doesn't have anything on me.)

  • Log file is too big and has lost the earliest problem burns so below is just one, with track names changed. First track has a 0.08 second silence inserted about 3 seconds from the start. I have two other compilations with a similar first track problem.

  • Unless I miss my guess, that drive is from 2006. You have the last firmware.

I notice that you have another drive. Have you tried a burn with that one?

Honestly, I don't think we're going to resolve this. It could be that the points where the silence occurs is when the drive is doing a power check but those occur repeatedly during a burn.

I burned a flac as an audio CD in Nero Express 11 and then saved it as a flac from Burning Rom 11. I then inserted it into WaveEditor in v11 and magnified it. I don't see any breaks. On the hand, it's not one of your files. The drive I used is 10 years old.

  • Last thoughts .... "Cache disk or network files: No," ... what happens if you turn on cache in the settings? Also ... have you tried burning at a really low speed? e.g. 8X ?
