NERO 12 OEM - your trial period has expired

RE-Installed Nero 12 essentials (OEM) on a windows 10 PC.
Nero reports "your trial period has expired" when I try to run it.
The install was done from the original CD that came with the DVD drive.

  • Hi John-

I believe the problem is that OEM versions can't be transferred to another computer. It seems that installing Windows 10 makes it think it's on another computer, even if you installed it on the same computer you originally had.

I'm assuming you have the serial number for your version.

Since v12 isn't officially compatible with Win 10, you might consider buying v2016 Classic. That should be equivalent to your Essentials version. You can also buy some of the Nero applications separately. Just depends on what you're doing.

So what your telling me is NERO is trying to RIP people OFF by refusing to load software (purchased with a piece of unaffected hardware) because of a windows upgrade that every one else acknowledges.

Who care if V12 isn't an official Win10 product. It isn't an issue in this!

  • John- Nero isn't trying to rip anybody off. What you got is a free Essentials version of v12 with your drive. It's like a trial version, except it has more features as specified by the drive OEM, and the serial number doesn't expire. If you read the EULA for your version, you will find some version of the conditions that I alluded to.

V12 came out as the first version that is Win 7 compatible. Later, Microsoft issued v8. Then, Microsoft figured out that Win 8 was a really bad decision and started working on Win 10. Nero AG didn't design v12 for either Win 8 or Win 10. it's not compatible with either of those Windows versions.

    FACTS:

    OEM is nothing like Trial!
The software comes with the drive, NERO hopes that customers will upgrade to a full version but it's not a requirement.

The compatibility you keep talking about has NOTHING to do with the issue.

The software WAS working under windows 10 until recently! Yes it was working!
(read the original message where I stated it was a "REINSTALL")
THEN it started telling me that it was a TRIAL.....WHICH IT ISN'T!!!
That is a NERO authentication problem and I was hoping to get some help from NERO to fix their problem.
It appears the profit thinking is more important than customer satisfaction.

Maybe there is someone with answer that can help me not just rhetoric!

    • Thank you Phil!
I've got it open I'll have a read through and see if it has the solution.
      Fingers crossed :)
    • Some people have been able to install v12 in Win 10 without a problem. In other cases, it's been necessary to install v12 in Win 10 using a Win 7 or older compatibility mode. Some people are running earlier versions in Win 10 using this method. I've already explained carefully why I think your OEM version is treated as a trial version. I don't know if Nero will have your serial number but you might send an e-mail to techsupport@nero.com and ask them. You can also ask them to clarify what happens when you install a new operating system and reinstall a OEM version. The thread that Lucky Phil referrenced concerns how to update an Essentials version. (I'm Wither in that thread)

I don't care if people buy another version or not. I'm not a Nero Employee. In fact, I've told people to consider not upgrading to v2016 if the version they have does everything they need. What v2016 primarily does is provide a version which is "supposed" to be fully Win 10 compatible. Nero isn't perfect.
