NERO 12 Platinum can't recognize a new DVD/CD burner
NERO 12 Platinum can't recognize a new DVD/CD burner. Any idea how to solve this? Thank you. David

I assume that the Windows Explorer can see it. You might try checking to see if there's newer firmware for it. If you have a laptop, you should check at the laptop vendor's website. Elsewise, check at the drive manufacturer's website.

Thanks for the reply. The burner is a Samsung SH-118BB and the driver is up to date. I have Windows 8.1. I can watch DVDs and listen to music using a VLC Player. But Nero doesn't see the burner, only an image drive is displayed.
Any idea?
Thanks, David -

There's a difference between a driver and firmware. The driver would be the generic Win 8 driver. The firmware comes from Samsung or the laptop vendor.
I'm a little confused because the Samsung website calls it a driver and the version is 2.2.1. At another website I see the firmware as vSC00.- view 5 more comments

Tis true. The firmware is the operating system within the drive itself. All the driver does is communicate with Windows. In some cases, no driver is required. It's all in the firmware.

Make sure you set a system restore point before installing the new firmware.
