I’m frustrated

Nero 16 Reboot Validator Installation Failure

Attempting to install Nero 16 Platinum (Nero2016-17.0.01500.exe) as Administrator.
Software extracts OK, then InstallShield Wizard advises that Reboot Validator must be installed.
Click on Install and window appears "Nero requires that your computer is running Windows XP with at least SP3, Windows Vista with at least SP1 or Windows 7".
I'm running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit with Service Pack 1 and Nero Platinum 2015.
I have tried removing Nero 15 prior to install but this makes no difference.
Please advise.
Regards,
Ray.

  • That's message is kind of funky because I'm told that v2016 is not Vista or XP compatible.

If you right click on the installation file and select Properties, is Win 7 SP1 shown as the compatibility mode for it in the Compatibility tab?

  • Ray, I have the same problem. I am running Windows 7 Enterprise version. If you look at (in my case) C:\users\me\AppData\Local\Temp\NeroLog file NeroOSValidator.log you may see:

  • Nero 2016 Platinum installation recovery:

Below are the steps I followed to get past the installation problem, I am running Windows 7 64-bit Enterprise, the installer was decoding my machine as an XP with SP2 installed. This may have been overkill but I wasted too much time troubleshooting this install problem and decided to hit this with the biggest hammer I could.

    Cleanup:
    • Uninstalled Nero all versions from my machine
    • Ran Nero First Aid Utility
    • Ran MSI Cleanup Utility
    • Searched Registry for “NERO” and deleted all keys containing “NERO”
    • Searched C: for any NERO components

    Installation:
    • Download fresh copy of Nero 2016 Platinum executable.
    • Checked executable for compatibility mode and set to Windows 7 for all users
    • Launched the installer, it extracted the installation files into the temp folder. When the InstallShield Wizzard dialogue box popped up I went to the temp folder and set compatibility mode for:
    o SETUP.EXE
    o ISSSETUPPREREQUISITES\REBOOTVALIDATOR\PRQSTARTER-1.EXE
    o ISSSETUPPREREQUISITES\SYSTEMREQUIREMENTVALIDATOR\NEROOSVALIDATOR.EXE
    o ISSSETUPPREREQUISITES\SYSTEMREQUIREMENTVALIDATOR\ PRQSTARTER-1.EXE

Went back to dialogue box and selected Install which went further but failed when attempting to install products. The installer abended with access errors on some of the Registry Keys, error 1402. To get around this I renamed the faulty key by appending zzz to the end of the key while in REGEDIT. Restarted the install by selecting SETUP.EXE from the TEMP folder, each time I started I would get further, about 6 attempts but it finally installed.

    Conclusion:

Nero 2016 is now installed and the few applications I have tried thus far seem to work. Under Nero ControlCenter it has identified several products (*Nero CoreComponents, *Nero ControlCenter, Nero Recode, *NeroKwik Media, Nero Launcher) that need to be updated, but the update fails. I will try to troubleshoot this problem when I have a week of spare time or run into a problem. No, I refuse to reimage the machine.

I may have caused some of my own problems but this product has been one of the worst installs I have experienced on a Windows machine and the amount of time spent trying to get it to install.

Nero team, might I suggest you come up with a uninstall cleanup utility.
