Really really annoyed with the "special offer" upgrade from 2015 Platinum to 2016.
Not only did they not really tell you anything about what had changed (managed to get *some* info through email after a question via support) but, having installed it, now find there is NO BluRay player included in the bundle - it seems to have been removed with NO notice.
This was one of the things which had kept me with this bundle, and they have now lost any future custom from me!

Can I get a refund? I don't think this is an upgrade at all..It's a rip off.
-

I had a new build and for me I like to make it new everything if possible. It does seem crazy to have to be put an old version side by side with new to get this working. I have been a Nero user for years like many others on here but will be last purchase.

Hi Wither,
According to my bunch of dates calendar ... today (or maybe tomorrow?) is the magic day to see if your installation of the Leawo blu-ray player has "expired" when it comes to the playing of a Blu-Ray ... -
-
-
-
I was going to try it tonight.
The strange thing is I downloaded and installed it on this Vista system way back when but now I can't find it anywhere on my system, even though I can find the installation file.
I reinstalled it and it works.
Explain to me how it uninstalled itself.-
Hmm .... interesting. So, do we know if it would have expired had you not reinstalled it? Or ... did it uninstall automatically after 30 days ... or ... was it on your other system and you forgot? :)
-
-
I answered that question in another thread more recently. Before I could use it again, I had to reinstall it. As I mention in that thread, it seems to be a semi-trial software like malwarebytes. Just mentioning it because I was reading through this thread as a result of an e-mail notification based on the very last post by Richard.

Does the bundled BluRay player work OK in Nero 2015 Platinum??
If so , Nero is actually downgrading your program. - why bother to upgrade to Nero 2016 if it comes without Bluray player ??
Seems like a money-making scam for Nero !!-
To answer your 3 questions/comments-
Yes.
Depends on if any of the fixes made or minor changes for 4k, etc. in v2016 are important to you. If you're happy with what you have, I don't see a need to upgrade.
Nero is selling v2016 at prices well below v2015. -

i live in Australia the most **** country when it comes to your home entertainment i believe sometimes. both 2016 and 2015 are invoiced to me at 199.95. but i got 2015 for 69.95 and an upgrade to 2016 for 79.95.AUD

Lou,
The Blu-ray Player worked for some users of Nero 2015, but certainly not all. Furthermore, even a cursory look at the complaints on the forum will reveal that where Nero failed, others have succeeded.
After years of complaints about audio/video sync issues with Nero Video and Nero Recode, Nero 2016 is much improved in that area. Incidentally, this was another area in which Nero failed, but others succeeded! -
-
They show a Blu Ray Disc on the cover, and beleive it should play it!
False advertisment.
Can't return open software, would like a full 2015 platium as replacement.

Google translate says:
I would like to download a trial version of NERO PLATINUM 2016, how?
I can not install the software when I bought it

I think if you download the 2016 Platinum from the previous products site, it will work like a trial version.
Je pense que si vous téléchargez 2016 Platinum à partir du site des produits précédents, il fonctionnera comme une version d'essai.

I don't think they'll give you a v2015 Platinum serial number. You can buy it cheap here (well worth it as I think v2015 Platinum is their best ever version even though, like other versions, it has its warts)-

Wither 1,
"So any commercial BD title purchased and played after beginning of 2017 will invalidate the BD functionality of the player (AVCHD continues to work)." - Since 5.5 (Nero Employee), in topic No bluray player for 2016 platinum?
So, maybe you'd like to reconsider advising users to pay for the Blu-ray Player?
Free Leawo player.
P.S. Would you like me to create a topic listing all of the bugs I know exist in Nero 2015? And, do you have a list of all of the audio/video sync bugs that were fixed in Nero 2016 (no thanks to you!). -

The Nero Blu-ray Player wasn't that great. It had the *potential* to be, I think, but it never got its due in development time.
But we can probably blame the Blu-ray Consortium, and its licensing fees, for killing it, rather than Nero. Annoying that they treat such things like a cash crop, before they move on to plough the next field with a replacement technology. (Grump.) -

Cyberlink power DVD 15 ultimate on sale plays any blue ray disk no issues great player for windows.
-
Hi!
I've just downloaded CyberLink Power DVD 16 Ultra. Have looked around a bit in the software, and it seems to be pretty damn good, such as play Bluray movies is no problem, etc. quick and straightforward menu. No Stasi propaganda shit here!
Best Regards
R. Steiner -
-
I've used Cyberlink's PowerDVD for several versions now, mostly because there's not much of an alternative if you want something that supports all the features of a commercial Blu-ray. But in my experience it's continually flaky software -- every version has its own problems, many of which (not all!) may be addressed by updates over the life of that version, only in time for a new version that either reintroduces the same bugs or brings in a whole new lot. (And you have to keep upgrading if you want to be able to play discs that use new security schemas.) On top of that, the Cyberlink tech support is perhaps the worst of any I've encountered for commercial software.
It's one reason I was hoping the Nero Player might shape up as something useful. But it's not to be, obviously. -

It seems that big business find it convenient to upgrade in a way that the consumer has to pay for things that was free i nprevious editions. I have been constantly asked to update to Windows 10. By doing so I lost the opportunity to burn disks on my labtop. I had to go back to my very old desktop to burn disks. That went perfectly. Now Microsoft nearly force me to do an unwanted upgrade to Windows 10 on the old computer when I connect to internet. The days of a Personal computer (PC) is gone.
The produsers of hardware and software are not doing their job when people have to approach such community sites like this to be able to use their products. They make it nearly impossible to get direct contact except for bying their products. When byers get in trouble they let people use a hell of a lot of time to solve it by themselves. Shame!!. -
-
Also known as a cartel. Big businesses exist for one reason - to make money. Arguably Windows 10 was only "free" whilst it was being tested out.

No bluray player for 2016 platinum?
-

-

Why then call it update from 2015 Platinum? If this is not fraud it is quite similar!
-

but it shows a bluray logo on box
-

You can create a Blu-ray disc. You can play a BDMV or BDAV. You can't play a Blu-ray disc. To do the latter, download the free Leawo.

Crying out loud! What a help!

Eu comprei ontem e já estou arrependido, vou tentar resgatar o meu dinheiro de volta, me disseram que era completo e não tem bluray player
-
-
HDCP and AACS have gone to new versions since the Blu-ray Player was last updated, so it doesn't work for a lot of recently-released discs anyway. I imagine it was the licensing fees that killed it, as they did other software players like Total Media Theatre.

-
I hear you, no Blu-ray player in Nero 2016 platinum, I've found the same thing. It would be good to hear it from a Nero support person as well, if there's any on here.

Based on everything that's been said in this thread, what do you want to hear from a Nero support person?

Thomas,
See Since5.5 (Employee)'s comments in topic No bluray player for 2016 platinum?.
Many have found the free Leawo Blu-ray Player to be a viable alternative. -
-
How does the Leawo player handle region coding?
I looked through the website, but could see no mention of it at all. VideoLAN's VLC, for instance, is a bit rough in its support for Blu-rays, but has the benefit of ignoring things like region coding and Cinavia watermarking. How does Leawo do with this? -
-
-
If you right click on the Leawo screen, you can select Player Settings. Click on International and there is a Region selection. Geez, now I'm supporting Leawo.
-
LOL wither 1 think i'm going to take the plunge and get 2016 and use the free player :) Wither i have 19 hours to do this tell me if this link is valid i got this in a email saying it was from Nero it seems to be a legit nero site. https://onlineshop.nero.com/1087/surl...

Hopefully you're not buying v2016 to get Leawo. Leawo is independent of Nero and you download the player from their website.
I couldn't get that link to work. It says the server is down for upgrading.
I also don't know if you can buy the Platinum version for a decent price because the only thing I see to buy is an upgrade for $50 US. I would never pay full price.
Note that v2017 is probably going to be available in roughly a month.-
The link works now Wither 1 please if can confirm this is a nero site and not some kind of weirdo scam i got in my email it appeared to be from nero. thanks man and have a great day.

If all you need Nero for is a Blu-ray player, you don't have the correct product. That app has nothing to do with the core functions of Nero.
-
-
But if you buy a bundle to use the various parts of the bundle....
-
-
-
-
-
So, 12 months on, and Nero ONE AGAIN send out an invitation to a special offer on the pre-order for Nero 2017, with ABSOLUTELY NO information about what is new, improved, changed or removed.... and even asking the question of the help desk gets a completely useless answer...
"Dear Mr. Macaulay,
Thank you for contacting Nero Support.
Unfortunately,we cannot provide you the detailed information that you requested about Nero 2017, at this time.
We will make this information available to our customers once the product has been launched in October.
Thank you for your understanding.
Kind regards,
Nero Support Team"
Am I going for the lower cost pre-order - absolutely NOT if they can't provide ANY information about what I am buying.
Is it even legal?-
Perhaps you should ask them if you can get a refund if you take the offer and v2017 doesn't have any upgrades or additional features that you desire.
-
-
-
-
-
WIll nero 2017 work if installed side-by-side with Nero 2016?
This caused issues with previous versions. -
-
Right now, I have v10 through v2017 installed on the same Win 7 Pro system and I haven't noticed any unwanted interractions. That doesn't mean someone else won't, especially if they have Win 10.
-
-
I wont buy the product anymore as you cannot be sure that they have their rights management in order, clearly they are forced to remove features which you have paid for. I wont buy anything from Nero ever again as its a matter of trust and I dont trust that it wont happen again.
-
-
When I upgraded from 2015 to 2016, the audio functionality was more important to me since I already have a player. Fortunately, I was able to downgrade back to 2015. Now, 2017 has arrived and again, we have NO information concerning the functionality.
My question is:
Is this an actual upgrade? Is there anywhere that we can be pointed to that has a list of functionality so we can determine if the update is really worth the trouble? Can someone tell us what is new and removed?
Thanks -
-
-
Really? That tells us NOTHING about the capabilities of the software. Just marketing jargon.
"Bring together what belongs together: Import all formats, including even high quality HEVC (H.256), and convert them to almost any format you need. Rip video DVDs*, AVCHD*, and Blu-ray DiscsTM* and simply reuse the files for new projects. With the 1-click conversion, you can send audio CDs directly to your connected mobile device. In the process, Nero automatically ensures the easiest conversion mode with the best sound."
um, no it does not help. Thanks for the response. -

To answer franktafl's question, Nero will not support HD Audio in any variant. Who knows what will happen in the future. Us volunteers haven't been able to get the details of the results of the lawsuit and Nero won't provide them. We've asked Nero exactly what codecs are considered "HD Audio" and can't get an answer.
-
-
That's too bad. I would upgrade in a heartbeat (obviously not a HD one) if all the functionality was there.
-
-
-
-
This is a reply I got but doesn't show here.
HD Audio was discontinued with an update to v2016 due to a lawsuit filed against Nero by DTS Inc.
v2017 is the first to allow using HEVC 265. It can't encode to HEVC though.
This might give you a better description of what's new in v2017-
http://www.nero.com/enu/company/press... -
-
franktafl,
As I think I have demonstrated in topic Nero Reps: Will the HD-Audio Issues Be Clarified?, "HD-Audio" has not been eliminated in Nero 2016.
So, I would say that your assumption above, "Thank you for the update. I can reckon that Nero will NO LONGER support 5.1 audio in ANY future update or upgrade. Is this a correct assumption?", is definitely not correct.
As I understand this issue, Nero lost a law suit having to do with DTS audio, not "HD-Audio". And, as I understand it, Nero never did encode DTS audio, but would "pass-through" DTS audio using Nero Recode.
What is required here is for Nero to come forward with a clear definition of the term "HD-Audio". It certainly cannot simultaneously be true their definition includes Dolby 5.1 and that they don't support "HD-Audio". -
-
Let me rephrase my comment...
I can reckon NERO will NO LONGER support 5.1 Audio in NERO RECODE.
Better?
This is the topic we have been discussing. My comment (above) was addressed to the discussion at hand and NOT Nero in general. BUT...
Hopefully you are NOT referring to HD audio being HD STEREO AUDIO.

I agree 100% with what you are saying. The reason for this part of this discussion was to find out what features and benefits were included in this release. The fact that NERO deleted the 5.1 option from 2016 and if it was INCLUDED in 2017 was the reason for my initial question. It got muddled with including HD (not 5.1) which they say is included and they support. They are calling 5.1 "ENGLISH HD AUDIO 5.1" in the software as in the screenshots I sent.
My question was simple (I think). Does 2017 support ENGLISH 5.1 in NERO RECODE? ...nobody seems to know.
I'm sure they support 5.1 in their player (WAIT, WHAT PLAYER?). It looks like they included 5.1 in French and Spanish (castilian) ? -
-
I don't know why it's showing it as ENGLISH. I have no idea what that means. If it's HD, it's not supported. In reality, selecting 2-channel stereo is normal since the system which has a 5.1 speaker setup will automatically mimic 5.1. If you want a expert answer, contact tech support- nero.com, support, contact, technical support. Let us know what they have to say.

Some observations
Early in March, Since5.5 said, We have dropped HD-Audio playback support.
We are very sorry for the inconvenience you have experienced; however it is unfortunately not possible for us to roll back the change. .
Subsequently, it became clear (to me at least) that Since5.5 misspoke; he should have said DTS audio. When asked for clarification, he is unable to discuss the matter. So now, we have a Nero employee who has apparently been forbidden to discuss the DTS lawsuit refusing to clarify the audio support capabilities of Nero products. It's simply unbelievable.
I do not have Nero 2017, but I do have Nero 12, 2014, 2015, and 2016. Assuming "support" refers to the ability to decode, then the chart above (from an original posting of mine) shows that some "HD-Audio" is definitely "supported" in Nero 2016 after the disabling of DTS decoding.
The question of stereo audio was raised above. So, I've created an MKV video containing DTS stereo:
I've imported this file into all of the versions of Nero Recode that I have - all except Nero 2016 decode the audio:
Not being an expert on this stuff, I've had to Google my life away trying to nail down the meaning of "HD-Audio" to no avail. If Nero is going to use the term, it would be just great if they would define it!
In any case, "HD-Audio" is not a synonym for DTS Audio!-
No, because DTS Audio is also lossy, unless it's specifically DTS-HD MA.
But the question is not only whether Nero can read or translate HD Audio, but whether it can also re-encode and publish it after editing. It seems the answer is no.
Such information is useful -- I would say necessary -- in making a purchase decision. At this stage, that's the point to me of discussions like these; absence of such information means I simply won't buy, and will look instead to alternate offerings from other companies. I'd rather stay loyal if I can, but that ball is in Nero's court. -
-
it can't encode to HD audio (I agree with Omega Tester about the lack of a definition of HD Audio from the folks at Nero). In the past, it could decode DTS but not encode it. Now it can't decode it.
-
-
-
-
-
Thank you all for your assistance and comments. It seems that NERO will NOT support 5.1 surround sound (or whatever they choose to call it) in Nero Recode in the foreseeable future so that means I had better stick with 2015, no matter how "new and improved" 2017 is. I suppose those that have not had the ability to utilize that feature would not miss it and maybe recode is not meant for the application I utilize it for. But it makes me a little frosty when they remove features from software disguised as "updates" which is very likely to happen to this version in the future.
What confuses me is that it is listed for French and Spanish but NOT English. Since I don't have 17, I can't speak to what it has now.
By the way, there is a banner at the top of this page that mentions NERO AG employees are here to help. When does that happen? When do they step in and clarify anything that has been commented on here?- view 4 more comments

Yes.. I update to Nero Premium 2017 SURPRISE.. NO Blue-ray player.. Nero lost another customer. False Announcements.
-
Hi Alonso,
I'm not sure you can call it a false announcement, to be fair. I haven't seen anything -- either in the frequent mailouts or the website -- that has suggested Nero 2017 has a Blu-ray Player included.
In fact, the big gripe I have with the information is that it gives almost no details whatsoever about Nero 2017 that isn't virtually identical to what was claimed for the previous version, and the one before that. It gives no details about specific features at all, just broad, inspecific capabilities, and I'm starting to wonder if that's specifically to avoid situations like this thread here, so that they can scrap or change features at any time and customers really have no grounds for saying "you didn't give me what I paid for". The downside, of course, is that without knowing what we actually get that's new for our upgrade money, I and a lot of other previously-loyal users just aren't biting. -

I uninstalled my Nero Platinum 2016 when I found that the free program was able to burn a 50Gb blu-ray in 95 minutes where Nero use 5 - 6 hours.
