Nero 2016 Video Jumpy using ps4 after using hardware acceleration in window's 10 every time i try to use Nero recode 2016 my video is jumpy the audio is fine. if i use my cpu (3 hours 30min file) it works fine but if i use my gpu (hardware acceleration) the video jump's all over the place i have contacted nero and they cant seem to help me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ILYSe... here is a video of whats going on maybe you guys can help me.
BTW i have tryed using old videocard drivers no luck i have tryed getting beta driver's no luck and i have updated nero 2016 to its newest version again no luck

Nero 2016 Video Jumpy using ps4 after using hardware acceleration in window's 10

Hello-
Would you please identify exactly what tech support told you? -
-
Just wondering if you are using a USB interface for the videos?
There could be specific formats to consider on the ps4 ...
Videos
If you are using a USB storage device, you must save your files to a folder so that they will be recognized by the system.

nero tech support told me and it dose not matter if i stream it to the ps4 or use usb and i have tryed different formats MKV, MP4, ect anything that use's Hardware hardware acceleration won't play on the ps4 right this problem started when i upgraded to windows 10 and nero 2016 when i had windows 7 and nero 2015 i was fine
-
-
I'm missing something here. Are you saying that when you recode a file with hardware acceleration enabled, the resulting file, when played back on your system, looks like the one at YouTube or does it only play that way when you play it on your PS4? Which video card are you using for recoding.
-
play's fine on my PC just glitches out on PS4 i have a AMD R9 290X Vaper-x 8GB
-
-
-
-
-
Let me see if I have this straight-
If you recode the original file with hardware acceleration, the resulting file plays fine on your PC but is jumpy when played on your PS4.
If you recode the original file without enabling hardware acceleration, the resulting file plays fine on both your PC and your PS4.
Is that correct?
I should note that Nero said, in another thread, that hardware acceleration may not work for AMD cards when using hardware acceleration in v2016 Recode.-
yes you are correct. nero support didn't say anything to me about hardware acceleration in 2016 recode not working on AMD card they are the ones that told me to get nero 2016 to get my hardware acceleration to work on windows 10 (nero 2015 recode had no hardware acceleration in windows 10) nero 2015 hardware acceleration worked fine on windows 7 with this video card (AMD R9 290X vaper-x 8gb) so i don't know what changed in nero 2016 that stoped this from working i have also noticed that my gpu dose not heat up or go under very much load (50c max load is on and off between 0-60%)
-
-
same here...my video card doesn't go above 17% utilization. And I have two in SLI and it seems that Nero Recode disables SLI for me automatically. Seems there's no way of using both GPUs or even using one of them fully.

NVIDIA, Intel, and AMD have created this whole situation with their driver changes. The software developers have had to constantly try to change their software to accommodate these changes but it's difficult because of the dynamic environment. It's like the Nero Blu-ray player. The powers to be, forced elimination of software acceleration so, Nero had to remove that. Of course, that caused problems for a certain segment of the users. Now what do you do? Mind-boggling. What's going to happen when Intel issues its kaby lake and ice lake cpus? How about the upcoming NVIDIA cards which provide shared memory between the graphics card and the CPU?
It may be a minor point, I don't know, but are you streaming to your PS4 or are you playing the file directly on it? It's just strange that the file created using hardware acceleration would behave differently on the PC vs the PS4. The PC has an excellent video card. What does the PS4 have? What adjustments are allowed on the PS4? It looks like the PS4 needs an adjustment for framerates or bit rates. I don't know which one. I don't have a PS4 or anything like it to test it.
Would you download MediaInfo and open the file recoded using hardware acceleration? Select View\Tree. Post a screenshot that shows the video and audio characteristics. Do the same for the file recoded without hardware acceleration. -
-
-
-
Honestly, I don't see a significant difference between the two in regards to things like the bitrates.
The major difference I see is the number of reference frames that are used. With hardware acceleration on, it is actually using more than with it off. As I understand it, this should improve the video quality (which it isn't doing). Our forum expert on video (and audio), Mister_M would be helpful here but he's a working guy and can't support as much as he would like.
Which TV do you have your PS4 connected to?
I think that there could be a difference whether your using a USB connection or streaming but tech support is the expert. However, are you streaming with Nero MediaHome?
Would you be willing to upload the original file (not the recoded ones) to a website such as pogoplug via nerobackitup.com and provide a link so we can test the different effects of hardware acceleration? Tech support should have asked you for a file to work with. -
-
when streaming i just use the streamer built in to windows did not know i could stream with Nero media (Just tryed it still has jumpy video) home and i have a insignia NS-48D510NA15 1080P TV the video i used for media info was one i got from YouTube (and tested it on my ps4 original file played fine also i download it in 720p and recoded it to 1080p) here is a link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8Tcj... i will also give you a link to it on nero backitup http://nerobackitup.pogoplug.com/s/f9...
Just to add to this i downloaded any video converter ultimate (have owned it for a while just don't like it very much prefer Nero because it has more options and a better UI) And i used that on the same file as the one i did earlier and turned hardware acceleration on and it worked fine no jumpy video and my video card warmed up and gpu usage hit between 80% to 100% so i guess its the nero software -
-
The link at pogoplug doesn't work. Did you click on it, select More Actions and select Get Link?
-
Yes i did the link works for me http://nerobackitup.pogoplug.com/s/f9...
-
-
-
-
-
I had reverted back to IE 8 from IE 9 and apparently pogoplug had an issue with it. I have the file.
Is this the recoded file or is this the original file. I wanted the original that you used before using the acceleration options so I could try it.- view 1 more comment

Thanks for the information. I'll give it a try tomorrow but I'll be recoding with an NVIDIA card.

I'm not sure what we're doing. The file you provided is mpeg-4 so I don't know why you would recode it.
That said, I recoded it using all the default settings to mpeg-4 since I guess that's what you need for the PS4. I did the recode in Win 7 since I don't have Win 10. As I mentioned, I used an NVIDIA card.
The recoded file is here for you to test-
http://nerobackitup.pogoplug.com/s/Dw...-
Its an Mp4 and it was just as a test to show you what was happening plus i changed the res to 1920x1080
Tested the video played fine no problems
The main reason i want to use nero recode is i want to take some old dvds and and change them to 1920x1080p -
-
-
-
-
The file you gave me plays just fine on my system as does the file I recoded. As I noted, I don't have a PS 4.
If your DVD's are DVD-Video, the resolution is 720x... Recoding them to a higher resolution will most likely result in unwanted effects.- view 1 more comment

So I'm still having a problem with jumpy video and Nero support wont respond to my message's (And I'm starting to get irritated) I have recently noticed that when I use Nero it only uses 916MHZ of my 1030mhz video card but when I use any video converter ultimate it uses all 1030mhz so i don't know if that might be the problem
-
-
I don't think how the video card is used has anything to do with this issue.
The file I tested and recoded was already high resolution and the original and recoded file played just fine. The recoded file played fine for you.
I've already mentioned what might happen if you try to recode the low resolution files to a higher resolution. I don't really know what tech support could do for you in that situation.
When did you e-mail tech support? -
-
I have emailed them 3 times no response i waited 20 days and still no response and it doesn't matter what resolution the original file is in is gets jumpy i even tryed to watch it on a smart tv and my phone all played the video junpy

ShadowDarkblade, I have an AMD R9 270 card and a PS3. I do not have such issue.
Maybe you could share an output file and I could also play with my PS3?-
-

Well, it plays smoothly on my PS3. However, it plays jumpy with flash player in Chrome browser. Strange.

Just got a reply from Nero...

Customer Support [2016-02-04 09:49:29.313]
Hi
Sorry to say, but this is not Nero related issue as stated before, seems some hw issue.
"Unfortunately the created Content using the Hardware acceleration is related to the used Hardware itself.
As Long as the Video has been created without an error message and can be played on the Computer without the mentioned Problems, a problem that will occur while playing on another player are likely caused by the Player itself."
Have a nice day!
Best Regards,
Jan

Then they closed my case.
I'm not sure what to do now -
-
Yes, I was told they replied today before I got to your e-mail. Unfortunately, there's nothing else you can do. What they said is what I usually tell people.
I played the file you provided for JennyW at OneDrive yesterday and it was fine. Today, it played haltingly (is that a word?). However, after I let it buffer, it played smoothly. Maybe that's a clue in regards to the PS4.
That file also played fine on my system yesterday.
Did you use something to rip copy protection from that video? -
-
Nope that video was just a trailer i got off of youtube so there was no copy protection and I have tryed many different videos same problem
-
-
I think I'm just going to partition My SSD and dual boot Windows 7 and Windows 10
because when I used windows 7 I had no issues -
-
However, why does playback have no problem on a PS3 but it plays jumpy on a PS4.
Are you streaming to your PS4 or is the file on a USB device?
Is the PS4 software up to date? -
-
I have tryed both no charge and yes you have to have the latest update to be able to go online i also would like to say when i had nero 2015 and windows 7 it played fine on the ps4
-
-
If you get the same result with either method, I'd say there's something in the PS4 settings or the hardware. My hint about buffering was meant to apply to the hardware.
I took a look at the PS4 manual and I can't find anything specific about this issue. With all the threads I deal with every day, I just don't have time to troubleshoot device issues. -
-
I have checked the settings and have also initialized (formated) the ps4 back to default settings.
Im going to ask my friend who also has a ps4 to try it with his to see what happens- view 2 more comments

Strange. It bothers me that you don't get the problem when using your CPU but do using the video card in Recode. On top of that, the one using the video card, plays fine for JennyW on the PS3. That points to the PS4 but still doesn't explain the recoding differences. Are you using Crimson?
-
-
Yep latest crimson drivers
-
-
-
-
Funny- someone else in the forum was using that same trailer but didn't get it from YouTube. When you posted the file it rang a bell, and sure enough I already had it as a mp4. I must have downloaded it to help him with whatever the problem was (I think it was burning to a DVD). However, I didn't use that file when I did the recode for you.
I'm at a loss in regards to resolving this problem. What I can't reconcile is why it doesn't work on a PS4 but it does on a PS3. I don't have time to research it more than I already have.
The only good thing is that you can recode it using your CPU and not have the issue.- view 9 more comments

It sounds like a codec issue on the PS4. If you use PS3, does that work on your PS3?
-
-
Works fine on the ps3 but everything played fine on the ps4 when i had windows 7 and nero 2015 same format
-
-
-
-
I was looking at the MediaInfo screenshots you provided long ago and noticed something strange. When you used the CPU, the decoding level is 4. When you used the graphics card, the level is 4.2 which is what I think is required for the PS4. Technically, I can't explain the significance of this.
Too bad our forum expert on media (Mister_M) can't be in here as much as he would like.
I have no clue why things worked with the Win 7-Nero 2015 combination.-
I will just have to use my ps3 for now. Hopefully ether nero or amd will release a update to fix my issue
-
-
-
-
-
I don't think this is a Nero issue. As soon as I last responded, the light bulb went on but I had to shut down.
I surmised about the codecs on the PS4 earlier. It appears to me that either you don't have the codec for decoding level 4.2 installed on the PS4 or it's not working. A codec which will decode level 4.2 (as an example), will decode 4.2 and all lower levels. It also may or may not decode higher levels. The fact that a video with level 4 encoding is working seems to support the codec issue.
I don't know if you can reinstall the codecs. Perhaps you could get some input from either Sony or in one of their forums on this issue.- view 5 more comments

I have recoded to mkv before same issue as mp4 but if you would like me to post the mediainfo for it i can
-
-
Please post it. I'm just trying to see if you get the same decoding levels as you get when using the PS4 option. Thing is, MKV is just a container so it's not clear if it would be a direct correlation.

If that screenshot is for recoding using your graphics card, then I think the problem is as I postulated earlier.
Do you have the v3.15 update installed?

So all of a sudden my videos are playing fine on the ps4 im not sure what changed there was no update (that i sow) but now there play fine so it was the ps4 not nero
-

I think we've been saying that all along. Other than what we've already discussed, I have no idea why it's working now. Keep your fingers crossed that the problem is resolved.

Ya i hope it stays working

I spoke to fast lol anything above 1280x720p is jumpy if i use nero recode

-

Just called they said they can't help me they don't have any troubleshooting guides on this issue...

-
-
-
Isn't that special. They don't know if the PS4 has a codec for decoding at level 4.2. Sounds like you got a response form a secretary.
Sorry to be sarcastic but it boggles my mind that they can't do better than that. When I get answers similar to that from Nero, I keep going back using a little bit of intelligence about the issue and they usually get around to providing a reasonable answer that I can understand.
I was having a problem using IE 9 at the Nero support website. Nero told me to use a later browser version. Using Vista, I'm limited to IE 9. Trouble is, it didn't work using IE 10 in Win 7. I persisted in asking them why the Java script wasn't working. . Eventually, they came back and said that other people with later versions of IE had the same problem and they fixed it. It's "don't take no for an answer". -
-
Ya i was on the phone with the guy for over an hour kept giving my the same answer even the manager gave me the same answer
-
-
Sorry I didn't keep responding last night. The battery charge on my workstation died.
Who else but Sony would understand media better than they would. It's their business. Aren't they aware of there own specs and what they mean? I mean, if they don't know the difference between level 4 and level 4.2 encoding and what the differences in the PS3 and PS4 software are, there's something very wrong. I think there just trying to get rid of you. So what if they don't have any troubleshooting guides. They should do what's necessary to evaluate your problem.- view 9 more comments

Well, after reading the whole thread I have one first question to ShadowDarkblade:
When using Nero Recode, did you use the specific PS4 profile? It can be found in the device options:
Since I don't own a PS4, I can't unfortunately test the output file. I used the PS4 profile, changed the settings to 1080p (whereas I don't recommend to upscale videos since this could lead to picture quality loss, upscalers of hardware players often do a better job than any software) and also activated the 8x8 Transform for getting a high profile H.264 video in the Encoder Settings. I also used the hardware acceleration of my Zotac GTX 970 AMP! Omega Edition.
The output file can be downloaded here:
http://www.filedropper.com/avatarpand...
Please let us know, if the video plays fine on the PS4.-
You mean you don't have the Zotac GTX 980 TI Artic Cooler? :D It's the fastest card around next to their newest one but that one takes 3 PCI-E slots. What a monster.
Just having a little fun with you. Thanks for looking at this thread. -
-
This is why I bought the Omega Edition... It's sooo quiet and only needs two slots! ;) And because of the overclocking it's really fast. ;)
-
-
-
-
-
Played fine no issues. I have tryed using the ps4 profile and tryed the ps3 profile and tryed using mkv all have jumpy video
-
-
One thing I noticed about the file provided by Mister_M is that it's level 4 and we already know that level 4 works.
-
-
Well... To be honest... Why should I try to force the video to be level 4.2, when level 4 works well?
You won't recognize a quality difference on a TV screen.
But it seems as if the hardware acceleration of your AMD card and the used drivers cause this problem... I had lots of trouble with my last AMD card many years ago (it was still ATI at that time), so I switched to nVidia. They have the better drivers. Never had any problems with all my nVidia cards in the past.
What kind of CPU do you use? If it's an Intel Core iX (X = 5 or 7) you should try to connect your pc monitor to your motherboard directly. Make sure you have activated the internal graphic card within your BIOS / UEFI. In this case you could use Intel Quick Sync, which is my absolute favorite when it comes to hardware accelerated video encoding. It's way faster than its competitors and has a better output picture quality.-
I was using a AMD 945 3ghz (125w) (overclocked to 3.6 stable) cpu with a motherboard that has no integrated graphics but the motherboard died so im going to be getting a new motherboard and cpu soon
-
-
Mister_M- As you know from reading the whole thread, using his AMD card and the CPU separately resulted in the level changes. Supposedly, the PS4 supports level 4.2. If is does, then it will decode level 4.2 and any level beneath it. One user was able to play the level 4.2 file on his PS3. ShadowDarkblade tried to get Sony to address it but they act like they are completely ignorant of their own software.

I still think it's a problem with the PS4 software which Sony refuses to address.

ShadowDarkblade,
In an attempt to gather things in one place, I've made four videos using FFMPEG:
1. Audio and video copied from your problem file.
2. Audio copied, video recoded.
3. Audio recoded, video copied.
4. Audio and video recoded.
I've zipped them and uploaded the result here.
Maybe comparing them will reveal something that you can present to Nero Tech Support, or Sony, or NVidia?- view 9 more comments

ShadowDarkblade,
Please don't take my word for Nero's problems with AMD drivers; it wouldn't hurt to get confirmation from Nero Tech Support that the problems still exist and that they intend to correct them.
BTW, do you have any converters that use the AMD hardware acceleration? -
-
Sorry for my delayed response. Yes i have used any video converter ultimate and that uses amd hardware acceleration. Nero just keeps saying its a playstation problem
