Nero 9 installer problems on fresh install of Windows 10

I did a fresh install of windows 10 and trying to reinstall Nero 9.
During the extraction Nero errors out - "Windows cannot find c:\users\xxx\local\temp\NERO1005488\setupx.exe' Make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again.
I tried running the installation as admin, does not help
how do I solve this?
thanks!

    Hi Anna-

Since v9 is not Win 10 compatible, I suggest right clicking on the installation .exe file and selecting Properties. In the Compatibility tab, set the mode to Win 7 or earlier (this assumes you have v9.4.26 or later; if not, select Vista or XP.) While there, check the box to "run this program as administrator."

That's just to make the installation and functionality (is that a word) more certain.

Are you able to get to that path manually in File Explorer?

  • Today, 4/18/2017, I got the exact same error message after updating latest Windows 10 (Creator) version. Now that I know I have to run Nero9 in compatibility mode, it would be prudent to upgrade to the latest Nero version. Problem is... I have had Nero9 since 2010 when I got it as part of a DVD purchase, so it is an OEM version with no license number and have never even used it until now. It is not worth buying a retail product for the amount I would use it, so I will just stick with the Microsoft built-in burner. I would have been interested in a new Nero product if this version would have at least upgraded without a hassle. I have purchased Nero retail burners in the distant past (prior to 2010) but am not impressed with their support.

    • In addition, the last update to v9 is posted at nero.com, downloads, previous products downloads, older versions. You can install it over your Essentials version but you will still only have the Essentials version because you don't have a purchased serial number.
    • Thank you very much for that information.

  • I found a solution.

I ran the Nero-9.4.26.0 unpacker.exe that you would have downloaded from the website on a computer that it worked on.

I copied the folder it unpacked too which was:
    C:\Users\Media\AppData\Local\Temp\NERO1005441

then i just copied the NERO1005441 folder onto the computer i wanted to install the program to with the same path name:
    C:\Users\Media\AppData\Local\Temp\NERO1005441

then just click the setupx.exe in the appdata foler and it works just fine :)
    • As I understand you, you ran the installation file on two different computers. If you didn't uninstall it (with the Nero General Clean Tool) from the first computer, you wouldn't be able to activate the patents on the second computer.

By the way, 9.4.26 isn't the last update to v9. I'm not sure which installer they have at the website.
