Nero Burning Rom - Burn Speed slows down during burn
I am burning some cd discs at 48x sometimes they work fine takes approx 3 and a half minutes, other times it will slow down and take over 5 minutes per disc does anybody know why this happens and how to fix it?
-
Slower is always better, for a 52X disc I would burn at half that speed or less.
-
-
Maybe but i would just like it to work at that speed if possible
-
-
After further investigation i've noticed it slows down to 16x instead of 48x does anybody know why?
-
There are various factors ... the transfer rate of the data through your hardware the amount of buffering taking place the type of data involved ... fragmentation of the source data ... and ... the fact that disk manufacturers "talk up" the rated performance of their disks.
Don't sweat it, your system will adjust the speed to best allow for the burn to succeed.
Go make a cuppa while the burn takes place. -

Hi Steven- I won't be able to go through the entire log tonight but the last burn says it completed successfully at 48x. I'll get back on you tomorrow.
-
-
Thanks Wither 1

I'm kind of confused. You said the first 2 burned successfully but the last one didn't. That doesn't jibe with what I said.
After looking at the log again this morning, all say the the burn was successful at 48x. -
-
Hi Wither thanks for looking through the log all 3 completed the burn successfully the first two burned at 48x the last one slowed down to 16x
-
I don't see that in the log.
-
-
-
-
-
That's the problem it shouldn't be doing it and i don't know how to fix it
-
-
Where are you seeing it? In the Burning Rom screen?
I see your drive has something called Burn Proof and it may be causing this because of something you're doing elsewhere on your computer during the burn. Take a look at this-

I agree that it might be easier but, having the log in the forum makes it more likely that other people, such as yourself, will look at it. Personally, I don't want to download every log file that I look at. I have so many files and folders on my two systems related to Nero that I don't know where to begin to purge them.

Wither 1,
Anyone that wants to look at the log file is free to download it.
Uploading log files to the cloud takes much less time than cutting and pasting into a post, especially if it takes multiple posts. In the case of long files, it frequently happens that hours go by only to result in the user being told that the log is incomplete.
Having the entire file available in a text processor is infinitely easier to work with than searching through a browser window with all of the other clutter.
Please give it a try! -

Yes i turned on show real burning speed it shows 16x i will disable burn proof and see how that goes thanks

Steven,
Thanks, but the file is empty. -

Sorry dont know what happened try this http://www.filedropper.com/nerohistory_1

Steven,
That worked! Since I don't know much about this, I merely wanted to point out that the logged burn speed doesn't appear to have much of a relation to the actual burn time. In fact, it seems that burning an entire 700 MB CD at 7,200 KB/s would take about 1:32. Perhaps another user that understands this stuff better will comment.

Just to say this is still happening with Burn Proof disabled it seems to randomly occur.

Regardless whether it burns at 16X or 48X ... can I just offer some advice gained through personal experience? ... that a slower burn speed can often result in a "better quality" burn, especially when creating an Audio CD.
I deliberately set the burn speed down to 8X when doing an Audio CD because I achieve more reliable burns at that speed.
I would much rather spend a few minutes more and gain a CD that plays properly, than have a fast burn that creates a "coaster" or one that "skips" when playing. -
-
Thanks Phil i would just like to burn quickly if you're burning a lot of discs as I do then if you're burning at 16x it takes ages. I have noticed it burns at 48x the first time i open Nero when I go for a second burn it slows down but if I close Nero and open it again it burns at 48x again can anybody explain that?

If you do a lot of burning, it would behoove you to run the Windows Disk Cleanup utility periodically. When it tells you how much free space it can gain, check the box for Temporary Files and Empty Recycle Bin. Let it run and then reboot.
It would also be beneficial to check your drive for fragmentation.
If you have an SSD, then you could do the first operation and then make sure that the Trim function is working to remove the garbage. If you have Win 8 or 10, the Trim should run automatically. -
-
Run the disk cleanup and defragged my drives i have an ssd and a hdd on Windows 10

I have an article from the Columbus Dispatch that recommends disabling Cortana all together for security reasons.
-
-
Do you have Cortana disabled?

I don't have Win 10. I plan to buy it someday so I have a whole folder full of tips about Windows 10 and how to configure it. Mostly, they make Win 10 look like Win 7, which is what most people want. The thing about Win 10 is that Microsoft keeps a lot of stuff about your installation on the web. It's a real security issue.
Here's that article from the Dispatch-

I've been using it for a while now so it's probably too late to change it

I've been using it for a while now so it's probably too late to change it. I reinstalled nero as well just to see if that helps.
-
It's never too late. Of course, whether you want to do what it says or not, is up to you. When I buy Win 10, I'll be following that advice plus the advice in some of the other articles I have. It's going to be great fun wading through 100 pages or more that I have regarding Win 10 and I have two more magazines that proclaim that they're going to focus on Win 10 settings.

I did try some of that but everything stopped working properly and i ended up re-installing Windows so i kinda gave up on that idea
-
Sorry to hear you ran into problems and had to do re-install.

-
Sorry I meant to say previously my current installation is ok will let you know how I get on with burning some new discs and if I still get slow downs

Update on this i have solved the problem it was not Nero causing the problem it was Cortana constantly search indexing my files narrowed down the locations it searches to my music files only and my cpu usage is back to normal therefore Nero is burning discs fast again. Cortana was crippling my cpu. Thanks to everyone for their help on this.

I don't know if you saw my response from about 20 minutes ago but it didn't show up here.
All I said was-
I'm glad you found a solution.
Enjoy! -

Just going to give this thread a bump turns out it wasnt Cortana have nailed it down to Nero Cover Designer if I burn a disc and use Nero Cover Designer it's fine but if I burn a second disc with Nero Cover Designer still open with the tracklist of the first disc burned then it slows down the burning process of the 2nd disc to 16x from 48x if I clear the tracklist before burning a second disc it works fine

Just bought Nero Burning Rom 2017 and this problem persists thought i had it nailed down with Nero Cover Designer being the cause of my slow down but i have now discovered this is not the cause I am shifting the blame on to my anti virus software namely Avast although i am not 100% sure yet. If I disable the shields on Avast burning speed is not slowing down so far.

Just bumping this in case anybody has a problem finally nailed down the problem changed the sata cable to the cd player as well as my psu configuration have a hdd on one psu slot and cd player and a ssd on another slot burns perfectly every time now no loud burning noises or slowdowns my pc also runs better.
