Nero Burning ROM has stopped working

Hi,

Just updated my Nero Burning ROM 2014 Platinum to the latest version through the Control Center. My operating system is Windows 8.1 64-bit with all updates applied.

Now, whenever I use the Copy disc function through Nero Express or Nero Burning ROM, the program crashes. The main window gets as far as Analysing disc in the Burning process, and then the CD Information window pops up, with the correct Artist and Title listed. At the same time as this window pops up, another message pops up:

Nero Burning ROM
Nero Burning ROM has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

There is a Close program button, and that's all.

After Nero has crashed and I try ejecting the CD, it won't eject. I have to reboot the computer in order to be able to eject the disc.

Thanks for your help in resolving this issue.

Cheers,

Steven

  • Hi!

    I don't know. How can I tell?

It is an audio CD which accompanies a French children's magazine. I want to make a copy to let my Primary students use in the classroom, while keeping the original as a backup. Nero worked to allow me to copy CDs from these magazines when I tried a few years ago. Now, I am trying with some more recent issues of the magazine, without success. I have tried copying the CD from three different issues of the magazine and always get the same Nero crash.

    Thanks for your help.

  • In most cases, that information is either printed on the disc. Normally, Burning Rom will let the burn process begin and will then identify if the disc is copy protected. In your case, it doesn't get that far.

Do you have a CD or DVD that you created to test?

I'm also wondering if it's an audio book? Support for audio books was disabled in Nero after v9. In addition, I believe that Amazon now owns the audio book technology and has copy protected everything.

  • I don't think it's an audio book. It appears to be a regular audio CD with tracks ending with the extension .cda.

I worked around the problem by ripping the tracks to my hard drive using a lossless format and then using Nero to burn an audio CD.

It would be much better if Nero could do this as a one-step "copy CD" operation--or at least, when it encounters a copy-protected disk (if that's what I'm dealing with), it didn't just crash and freeze the CD drive.

    Thanks for your help.

  • the disc is an audio CD.

I assume you used Nero to rip the tracks to your hard drive. If the disc was copy protected you normally wouldn't be able to do that. However, I can save the tracks from a copy protected CD in Burning Rom but it won't let me copy it. There is a lot of inconsistency amongst the various Nero versions, in this regard.

To resolve your problem, I suggest that you send an e-mail to techsupport@nero.com. If you do, please let us know the resolution.
