I’m frustrated

Nero does not recoganise it's own file (.nvc)

I edited a video in Nero Video (2015), and then saved it in the only format the software allowed (.nvc). I then went to recode the file in Nero Recode (2015) and it indicates an unrecognizable file (.nvc).

How can that be? Now the video can not be played at all nor can I convert it. I suspect I am doing something wrong, but this is the strangest piece of software out there. I need to open the file in one program (Nero Video), save it then open it in another program (Nero Recode) to simply edit out about 30 seconds of unwanted video. Now the video is completely useless...How do I convert the saved video from the Nero .nvc to a usable format?
