Nero Fails to Write but Windows 10 will

I just recently got a new computer and external USB3 Blu-Ray DVD Burner and downloaded the Nero Trial. I triued burning a CD and the write failed on 4 attempts. I was able to burn the disk using the windows 10 CD write function so I can only assume the drive is working properly. I tried slowing the write speed from 24x to 16x and it still failed. Any suggestions what could be wrong.

  • Did some more testing and found it will burn the CD as a CD(ISO), it was set to UDF. Is there a way to make the ISO the default option?

  • Hi Greg- one of the issues with a trial version is that it is limited to burning 100 MB or less of data. Could that be the issue?

  • OK. I have purchased the program and just tried to burn a Blu-Ray on due to file sizes had to use the UDF file format. The disc burned with a message that the burn failed. I looked at the disc and i see the files listed, but cant load them into anything, so it appears the burn only partly worked. Any ideas why a burner would burn in ISO format but not UDF. This is a brand new computer and brand new bluray burner so both should support the new format.

  • Please go here-

    C:\Users\"your user name"\AppData\Roaming\Nero\Nero 17\Nero Burning ROM

Find the nerohistory.log file. Open it and copy its contents here.

I cannot find this drive at Sony. I found one at e-bay and it says its compatible with Win 2000 through Win 8. Very strange that Sony wouldn't list it unless it's past end-of-life.

  • I pulled the drive out of the external case and it was manufactured on 2012. I am returning it and getting one at best buy. Got this one on eBay, but guess it wasn't such a great deal.

  • I finally got a new Pioneer drive and just burned a Blu-Ray in UDF format and it appears all went well. Guess it was the older drive did not like the newer format.

  • It may have needed a newer firmware and/or driver to be compatible with Win10.

    Glad you got it working.
